I like Raleighs but this is just a wee bit to much...

Check this thread for price comparison mate, seriously nice example (for a burner i mean) mk1 ultra 180 notes this model had some decent parts araya7x suntour power etc.

the MKI Ultra had some great bits on it, ARAYA wheels and nicer bits and i think the MKI was much better than the MKII, although it's like asking what's better out of two dog sh*t sarnies??
don't get me wrong i like the old MKI burner as i had one BITD and that's all i had........i just think the MKII shouldn't even be called a BMX it's so bad! yes Raleigh got it wrong with the MKI burner but to then fook it up even more with the 'revised' version was the crime of the century!
but that MKI ultra was a good buy at £180 :daumenhoch:
compare that to a poor Ruffle replica frame with horrible angles and crappy Raleigh mags with butter for bearings then £100 is about righ in my view :daumenhoch:

even for a Burner fan I can't see that Ruffle rep going for more than £100.
some poor saps get confused and think the ruffle rep is a team aero pro.

actually that example is in good nick, but not original I would suggest it's a resto/custom job, lot's of bits aren't right.
however ti might go for £150 ish on a good day.

let's not forget Raleigh sold over one million (and i use this term loosely) BMX bikes. they got the nation onto 20" wheels.
one in every six people in th uk had a Raleigh BMX...seems a stunning figure to me, but then one in every three people in the western/developed world were said to own Dire Straight's Brothers in Arms.
true the standard burners weren't great, but to me as a kid my mki burner was awesome. no f***er on my estate had even heard of a VDC or an SE or any of that other bollox.
the burner was king, and a lot of folks have that nostalgia now for the bikes they owned as kids.
however, you are never gonna sell a custom/resto Ruffel Rep for £150 more than you could buy an aero pro for.
that seller falls under the "he's on drugs" category.
old school bmx is a funny thing, outside of the scene (ie: RAd and the Burner forums) there's two views.
1. old bmxes? they all went in the skip, worth nowt
2. old bmxes? them raleigh ones? heard they are worth a fortune.
both statements have a certain amount of truth to them, a lot of them did go in the skip and some are worth a relative fortune, ie you might get a couple of hundred quid for a bike that back in 1990 you could have got free or for a few quid.

Joe don't get me wrong........i had a Burner BITD (MKI GS) and i loved it.....but looking at how Raleigh fooked them right up with the MKII was a crime! the geometry was bad enough on the MKI but looking the the Geo on the MKII it's just unridable!
as for the Aero pro? :smitten:
If i had the chance though i would own a MKI GS for nostalgia or a MKI Tuff burner in blue and yellow as my mates had those i loved em BITD!

My First bike was a brand new blue tuff burner which I had for a year aged about 12 ish then got the aero pro..gotta be the shittest chrome on a bike ever, the bb rusted in a matter of months so the I took it back expecting a new one and the shop owner just stuck a lump of grease over it and said that will stop it. :LolLolLolLol:
The only burner that I like is the mk1 pro burner which I swopped for my aero pro..but as far as burners go I can't see the attraction,ugly,shit parts,shit welding,shit in all departments. :daumenhoch:

i completely understand the collection of all our old shitty bmx's, for nostalia reasons ;), its the company that i slag off for for being so 'couldnt give a shite :knuppel2:' when designing a bike.... they have no excuse :buck2:

I get more of a nostalgic buzz when I see a raleigh striker or commando sort of fun bikes...can't really call any of the standard burners bmx's as they where made from gas pipes...more bmx style bikes if you get my drift.
I can't understand why the burner fans get upset when you cuss burners..as they really are a total crock of steaming dog shat. :daumenhoch:

I don't get upset I was just pointing out that Raleigh and their Burners were pretty influental on BMX in general in the UK.

and no that's not just on the pro's either.
the attraction I would imagine, though i currently don't have one, is owning the bike you had as a kid rather than the bikes everyone now says were THE bikes to have back in the day.

I agree some of the parts where decent I have no problems with dc,suntour etc I just hate burners,the look,the steel,the slaver welding,the whole kit and caboodle..if someone offered me a burner for free I honestly wouldn't make space for it...except the mk1 pro for nostalgic reasons i.e I would like to see how long it would take me to crack the R gussett :)

The polulation in the uk averaged over the last 20 years was approximately 59 million. Surely then if Raleigh sold 1 million BMX's that would be 1 in 60 people had one, not 1 in 6 ???
