My bro bought it about 2 years ago and we wtched it one rainy saturday when he came down to see me.  Absiolutely loved it, bought it myself since, but its what made me want to get into buying old school bikes.

My only comment is its a little too SE heavy.  Obviously Scott B's involvement and influence was great, but wouldve liked to see more of the other manufacturers and teams.

Might watch it later... :)

fantastic film
BMX is so diverse but, that is easily the most complete outlook of BMX ever made- what a legend of a film.
Highlights for me have to be.
 - fiola, dominguez, Haro, then all the interviews with people I never heard speak, like perry krammer, harry leary, Dizz hicks
always rated that Eaton  :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:

Gotta say great movie  :4_17_5: ( great post Matt  ;) ) .

Here are some great pics of the Joe Kid Premiere in Hollywood with many old school BMX legends present  ;) .

http://bmxweb.com/joekid/index.cfm'sec=2

I've had this a while now too , it's an OG Joe Kid Premiere poster I got from Byron Friday ( ex AA Pro racer for Scorpion among others ) who was Associate Producer on the movie . I asked if he would sign it & he was more than happy to , a totally cool guy all round . Pic of Byron also below from very well known Scorpion ad .

Yeah Barry on a Grifter is pretty good :daumenhoch: Quite flatland heavy (which is no bad thing imho) ;)

The maker of Barry on a Grifter is a member on here.  Monkeybrains if my memory serves me correctly.  Whack a pm to him and he'll sort you out I'm sure.

Dorkin' 10 is a must-see too   :daumenhoch:

Barry on a Grifter is great - a real piece of raw UK BMX history...that together with the Backyard 6 disc set and you've got it covered.

Awesome.

I realise I seem to be on my own here but I wasn't impressed with Joe Kid I bought it when it came out watched it and never touched it since :-[
Now barry on a grifter was a different kettleofish worth buying just for carlo's big air :4_17_5:
I will try and watch Joe Kid again to give it the benefit of the doubt.

Joe Kidd does have some holes in it, but I'm sure a skater would say the same about DogTown and Z-Boys.   At least it got made eh?
Title: Re: JOE KID ON A STINGRAY
Post by: lodge on November 11, 2008, 09:18 PM
Some good footage for sure but no way should it have "the history of bmx" on the box imo.

Yeah have seen it but dont own it, thats true bmx history though eh.
I just thought joe kid was a an insult to the guys that rode right through the dead years (not saying i'm one of those btw)
Title: Re: JOE KID ON A STINGRAY
Post by: subversion on November 11, 2008, 10:14 PM
Hmmm then I suppose you could say that Mark Eaton put out the Dorkin' series throughout 'the dead years' anyway? It was a tall order to cover every aspect & every facet of BMX since it's birth & imo I don't think they did a bad job of it! :daumenhoch:

Fair enough, mebbies was expecting too much, just remember feeling really dissapointed as the stuff at the beginning was good and then it seemed to end as it was getting warmed up missing a shed load out, as i have said i will watch it again.

Ok have watched again and feel i was out of order to say the above, as has been said it does have some holes but it was always going to have no matter who made it, yes i did enjoy it and i took more out of it second time round and to be honest there's alot in there so they did a good job covering what they did.
No easy task to make that vid i'm sure.

Just watched it again this evening & the Kevin Jones footage prompted me to dig out Dorkin' 5 which I'm gonna check out in a bit...

I also think I took more from it this time around due to the stuff I've learnt from this site regarding the 70's & very early 80's before I ever got into it as a kid :daumenhoch:
