Title: Marlboro BMX & Lester Mags
Post by: greentoad on January 26, 2006, 07:16 PM
Hi all...

I've been at it again.

The wife is not too happy  >:( - this brings me up to nearly 20 bikes now.

Another find that has Mint Brakes, SR Stem, Lester Mags (amazing condition), 3 Piece Crank (one arm is wrong though), Pads, Reflectors and note the pedals (you seen these lately?), it looks like this bike has hardly been ridden and just left in a shed for a couple of decades.

Any history on Marlboro, or the mags, (are these rare ish now?) would be appreciated, as i'd hate it to get damaged / scratched or broken as it will have to go into storage / sold to a loving home.

Thanks

Another good find. Nice to see some pov mods now and again.  :daumenhoch:

I think Gini's have some of those mags for sale.  ;)

Great find!
Are those MKS Graphite pedals?
Lester mags came in a few different styles and were fitted to quite a few late 70's/early 80's mainly US BMX's such as Schwinns & Team Murrays etc. You don't find that many in the UK, but quite a few pop up regularly on ebay US.

Hi

The pedals are MKS  (well spotted  ;) ) and absolutely mint, no scratches on the sides at all (I nearly had a heart attack, they are as good as NOS), just a bit dusty.

I have done a bit of browsing but all the Lesters that I have seen have been pretty ugly and have reflector connections, I have not managed to find many pics, and none of this style.

It is starting to grow on me and I'm liking the snap pads, anyone know of the mags or the bike, where they where sold, prices, models etc?

Thanks

the factory where they were made is in wednesbury in the midlands.
lol my dad used to have the scrap tubing from the factory.
i had a new zapper for nowt one day when one of the lads put a new bike in the top of our skip and said give that to the lad dave.
i was well happy with it.
cranks did'nt last very long though.

couple of my mates had zappers in 1983
i bought both bikes for 12 quid in 86
i took the frames to school, and me and my mate jim welded one to the other creating a sidehack
it was really good - looking
we had neglected to leave any room for the crank to turn.

i think that malboro of yours predates marlboro zappers - zaps had double butted tubing and no gussets
it was either before, or waaay after 83. as after zappers had been and gone i didnt hear anything else from marlboro.

cool looking ride though
should clean up ok!!

I had a chrome and red Marlboro pro race in 84 bought from the CO OP. Parts were SR Stem, one peice chromo crank, weinmann brakes, levers and rims. Steel hubs, SR pedals, snake belly tires. Straight bars and pads. The frame was made same as a racing bike with the welds butted or brazed in. Good bike, died but the piss weak rear brake hanger pulling off the frame. Had a new one welded on tho.
Hope this helps. I have no pictures but good memories.
