I'm pegging in and am reasonably happy with it except I'm finding my back wheel sliding down when I release the pegs from the coping...
Anyone got any ideas what is going on?
I find it happens less if I oversteer but that introduces even more problems.

I think you just need to lean in a bit more.
you at Corby tomorrow?
we can work on it together.
-
Yep lean in and also turn your bars into the ramp as you lean in :daumenhoch:
-
OK, I think I understand what is going on here...
SO I need to lean over more to a point where my bike is nearly perpendicular to the ramp - rather than at a quite steep angle where the wheels might slip...
... and at the same time turn more to get the bike rolling
JT71 - No, I'm not at Corby tomorrow... letting my ribs heal (sort of) and have to work. :( :( :(
-
twobobrob's the person to explain this to you.
Robert where art thow
-
Hiya!!!!! :D :D :D
-
I saw you going in from smith at Corby last week, and it looked fine. I wouldn't worry about it, do a thousand more and you'll commit more.
-
Yeah, do what Nick says - do thousands of em. On as many different ramps as possible.
Two little things for you though; Be sure your death grip isn't holding the rear brake on and get your weight forward more. Try and imagine your head, shoulders, bars, forks and front wheel all as one thing. So, get set up on the coping, throw yourself into the ramp (weight over bars), pull your bike off the coping and turn in at the same time. Job done :)

told ya
-
TBR - You make it sound oh so easy...
Finding Smiths easier that Double pegs - in fact Smiths I'm finding just as easy as droppping in.
-
Yep. Because they are easier. You're already in a good postion to drop in from a smith, and because your back wheel is still on the deck, the angle is less harsh than a double peg.
You've just got to persevere really. But definately go exploring. The more ramps you try, the more familiar you'll get with your pegs and the whole feeling of whats going on.
Just out of interest, where at Corby for example are you pegging in?
-
I can double peg in no problemo but can't smith in for toffee.
the reason being i set the bike for a double peg and get on and in I go, for smith i'm trying to roll along and drop the front peg on
and there's a mental block there.
am i weird?
-
Not at all.
The Smith drop in thing is just a test of committment. It's dead easy to drop in once your peg is on. Rolling onto it is the tricky bit. I use it as a training tool for anyone I'm riding with. The idea is that you overcome that fundamental fear of rolling over the coping and you're halfway to a 'proper' roll in.
Roll along the deck parallel to the coping, about 6" or so back. Turn into the ramp, over the coping, then immediately turn your bars back parallel again. And relax................... :)
Don't go too fast ;)

I'll give it a go tomorrow. To be honest Jedi's told me the same, but I've not had prolonged attempts at it.

thanks Rob, I like to be weird. :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol:

Joe just do it on a kerb in the street to get the feel for it, once you have them down on the ramps you can do a cheeky little peg 'ching' in in the same manor ;-)
we're all weird dude, especially me :LolLolLolLol:
-
To be honest Jedi's told me the same,
Yeah, I think it was me that taught him......
As for having a prolonged go at it, just make it the beginning of your run every time. You'll get it soon enough :)
-
JT71 - For Smiths I did the kerb thing, then got onto a grind box where the peg hooked but the wheel was only an inch or so off the ground. then if I overcooked it falling the wrong way was only a couple of inches rather than a few feet...
It is a proper test of commitment - I've just spend 1.5 hours constantly doing it on a mini ramp and the most I managed was 5 in a row but not as consistent as I want it to be...
-

TBR - I was pegging in off the 5ft Quarter nearest and facing the Vert in the corner, the 5ft quarter at the other end before the volcano and in the bowl.
-
is a smith where you ave the front peg on the coping, and the rear wheel on the deck?
-
Gotcha. It's been a while since I've been to Corby, but I recall a fair bit of stuff being mellow in there. The bowl's probably best, because you can go back and forth sessioning it :)
Fruity - yes, it is :)
-
that quarter facing the Vert, like opposite the little one with the over vert next to it?
that's an ideal one, i like to peg in there.
the other one, do mean the left one as you look at the wall that has the foam pit behind it, if so then that one scares me silly cos it looks slippy.
the bowl is cool though.
-
you wouldn't catch me doing that rolling thing to smith, sod that.
I've been thinking, riding / pegging in ramps is a lot like skiing, you have to commit your weight down the fall line, if you don't, you'll fail.
-
lol....TBR showed me that at epic, the thought of looking down into that ramp starts the adrenelin flow even from the computer desk!
-
JT71 - yeah - the ramp on the left (as you look at the foampit) by the door to the Foam pit.
They are OK but agree they look quite slippy.
They aren't as mellow as the bowl and give you a nice bit of speed to get over the volcano!!
-
this is how my 5 year old son does it lol
but he cheats
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=J2kbtAwiCyA
-
Thanks - not sure what is worse - not being able to do it and seeing a 5yr old do it or a 45 yr old do it??!!!
-
trev taught me to smith in at corby!
bushwacked.you tag your back brake thats why it slides
-
SO no back brake then???
-
i told you to not touch it! your back wheeel needs rto roll in
-
I know I know!!! Too much to think about.... !!
How's the foot anyway?
-
foots mullerd!!!!
its not to much to think of.
look,lean,turn
-
Exactly too much to think about!!!!
-
Bushwacked, I have the same problem, back wheel slides. Ended up with whiplash Sunday at rOm, tried to peg in, ramp wooden, rain just starting, like fooking ice, slid all the way to the flat and slammed hurt hip/back didn't put my arm out as it was the one I broke earlier this year just pulled it in. Helmet hit the bottom aswell :LolLolLolLol:
Jedi I dont hold my brake, just think it's a commitment thing, dont lean the bike enough. Will be in the Corby bowl tommorow trying to get these :daumenhoch:
-
bushwacked does fully commit and we watch him pull his brake :)
you just need to man up lol :)

-
FASTER=more fun! :daumenhoch:

Bushwacked
the whole sliding thing seems to be a bit random to me.
I don't touch my brakes, but on my second peg stall video you clearly see me slide down the ramp as I come off the pegs.
3rd vid, same ramp, same postion, everything is the same and no sliding.
strange thing is that most people, esp. Gary72 last night, don't understand how my back tyre offers so much grip in some of the postitions i get it in, ie: i'm upright, my pegs are over the coping but it won't slide, usually cos the ramp is too mellow, but other times the grip just goes even on these mellow ramps, maybe my cheng shin tyres just aren't predictable enough.
