Title: Pad resto
Post by: Waxintaxin on January 31, 2006, 10:38 PM
OK managed to get a straight cal lite skyway handlebar pad, however someone has added some gaffa tape to hold the edges down 20 years ago lol, i have washed it and it has come up nice however the glue has seeped into the nylon and needs some kind of magic to get it out

any ideas , i have used ariel and some bleach and it has improved but needs some more work to get it pristine, any chemists out there ?

Rich :)

Try some white sprit.

hmmm, well, i have had a play with pads before...

i used a bit of lighter fluid to take some blue paint off the framepad i gave you with no issue.

The colour is very strong and seemed not to take effect, but i recon the printing will come out if you get it on this.

Hi  ;)

I have tried numerous methods on various items that needed glue removal over the years.

Petrol is good if you dab it on with cotton wool, it dissolves the glue and should leave the transfer.

Or, lightly heat the pad from underneath where the glue is - hairdryer, hot air gun etc, and use white clean kithen roll to dab off the glue on the other side.

It's best to take your time, and if need be do it more than once.

Label remover, you can get it from Maplins I think? If not I have used cellulose thinners but be carefull as it is well strong.  :D (It will remove any printing on the pads!!!! You have been warned......
