I know they was shite, but they where one of the first bmx's to arrive on our shores in halfords, and i was completely smitten by a blue and yellow one with yellow coaster mag wheels when i was 12, must of been 1980/81, nothing before looked quite like it, and it was this bike that got me hooked, does anyone own one? you never see any of the murray range now, suppose all been skipped.... :'(

,same goes for me it was the first bmx i ever rode as my mate was lucky enough to get one when halfords got them in

i think jazzchimp has a minter
-
I have a nos in the bag padset :daumenhoch:
-
I started with a red one like this, I had the frame replaced under warranty as the back end used to bend to the point where the chain would not stay on.

The second time they replaced the frame they sent a one identical to the frame in Sawzell's pic they said it was a stronger frame than the one I had.

Does anyone know what year the metal magged team murrays first appeared in the uk??
-
those yellow metal mags were something else.... :smitten: :smitten:
a push bike without spoked wheels was never heard of, and was leagues ahead of a grifter... ;D
now look at em!!! how tastes change....
-
they first appeared '79.
i had a choice, a murray or a goose.....oh dear....
i made a bad decision
i had a chrome 340 with black lester's

no one knew any differant though back then, and to be honest a bright yellow and blue bike looked better to a 12 year old kid, and to our parents it was cheaper than a goose with those motormags... ;)

I remember a shop in Coventry on the Walsgrave road that sold Puch mopeds- you know, those that had to be pedaled to go anywhere.Anyway, the shop also sold those horrific 'bmx' bikes.I've never seen one until that previous photo. How odd.
-
first real bmxi ever saw,my mate turned up on one at the top of our drive, everyone else had grifters, choppers etc.etc
-
It would be good if there are any more pics on the Puch/Team Murray range, I had a chrome one with black cast iron(!?) mags which I snapped and had replaced with a stronger looking but equally crap frame!
At the time though they were the dogs...

im sure this was the first bmx i ever saw back in 81,it was chrome(did they do a chrome one?)think it had a pedal back brake as well.kiddy who lived in our old neighborhood had it,took it for a spin that arvo, didnt think much of it at the time, was another 2 years before i was smitten by bmx :smitten:
-
my little bro had one about 83 but he wasn`t into bmx and i raided it for parts >:D
swapped the forks which were built like scaffold pipes for a set of landing gear with knackered dropouts with a lad at southsea park
to this day i think he got a better deal this was a team murray from us and could take some punishment and this lad had fooked his landing gear but these forks just kept going, they were huge
also got a rickman freestyler of the lad a year later
i think his dad was minted lol
