Title: Not feeling this build, what would you suggest? (updated with new pics!)
Post by: dannywhiteley on January 13, 2009, 03:56 PM
I need to do something about this T/A, cos I am just not feeling it at the moment.  I appreciate the parts arent all that, but think I could do better with my (limited) resources.

Currently running (updated since pic below)

T/A frame / forks
Black Alloy hub Tuffs
copy blue comp III pattern tyres - these need to go as a minimum
Dia Compe 901 brakeset - this needs to go as a minimum
1984 Haro Sport 4130 bars
Blue A'Me grips
Early DK stem
Kashi Aero seat
GT layback post
Hanabishi 3pc crank
Blue Tuff Neck chain wheel
Sharkbite pedals - these need to go as a minimum

Thinking about powdering the frame white and building with red parts/white tuffs.  Or keeping chrome and going black parts.

Whats the main problem with it as it stands (the tyres?)...

Overall looks okay dude!

But...

Change the bars to some race ones.

Slap on a set of Skyway Pads.

Change the pedals for something era correct.

Are those twin-pinch flights? If so, change 'em for a 1pc.

Job Done.

leave it chrome , you`ve got a white one already ...if it were me i`d stick a stright post in , swap the black tuffs for blue and swap the bars for chrome skyway ones ...and get out and ride it!!!

I meant to say, it does have a set of Skyway pads on now.

Bars are now Haro Sport 4130 ones (more race looking).

And crank is now era correct Hanabishi 3 piece.

Defo need to change pedals and tyres though if nothing else.

White one at the back is a streetbeat that ive just sold, hence my longing for a white TA.

Hmmm, decisions, decisions...  Atleast I have a little time while I build the quad. :)

Dont know if its a change in taste but i am changing all my posts to strait rather than lay back. so i would defo change the post and some nice race type bars but you have done the bars, other than that its looking :daumenhoch: , by the way the black skyways look nice

normaly chrome ta look sweet once built,
it defo needs some bits changing, but you got a sweet frame set there,

lol, will get some pics at the weekend for better perusal.

Thinking nice black tyres would make a massive difference along with better pedals and straight post.

Gonna get stuck into it this weekend...

(then again, am looking at a trade for a white TA f/f, so you never know...lol)

Loose the black tuffs and put on some silver spokes, job done  ;D

I think reds, blues and whites all look good on a TA - and also a mixture of those colours, but i'm not feeling the black tuffs on that one  :-[
Maybe if it where all black parts they'd work  :-\
How about swaping them out for whites ? You could try it out with the white tuffs from the build behind and see if it works  ???

But fook it what do i know - i only build geese   :LolLolLolLol:

i'd put different bars and proper pedals on it, white or silver powerdisdc with blue chainring. IF it was mine. but if it was mine, i'd be going black/silver.

Freestyle look - I'd go blk Comp ST's , new pedals & straight seatpost , MX900/1000's ( potts or cable down/up forks ) , OPC .
Race - Comp 3's/Knarlers etc in blk , new pedals & straight seatpost , rear MX900/1000 , Arayas/Ukais , race plate , padset .

I had the same problem with a Chrome TA...I tried a few options at the time:

Ended up with black tuffs and black tyres...oh and it's now a freestyle one with all black parts and a platform!

LOL.

is it me or do 1pc cranks really look the dogs on T/A's?
Title: Re: Not feeling this build, what would you suggest?
Post by: dannywhiteley on January 15, 2009, 04:11 PM
MIght be swapping it for a white TA yet, so we'll have to see, but if I  do keep it I will definitely swap the tuffs for white.  Not gonna manage alloy hubbed though and that could be a problem with my ever increasing desire for 'era correctness'.

1pc is also a possibility, I agree they look sweet on TA's.

I like this, very red, white & blue.

I like a nice bit of colour on a TA!

Daft question but did you just throw the bike up in the air and take a pic quickly ?

Not sure knobbly tyres look right on a TA

Should be nice freestyle smooth tyres like this ( anything to get my pic pn )

Know what you mean about the comp 3's, it started off as a race bike & is slowly turning into a freestyler.

No I didn't throw it up in the air!, its hung on fishing wire in me office at work, got me fave 4 bikes all hung up-

Depending on whether I keep the chrome or swap it for a white TA i'm gonna start from scratch.  Some of the parts on it now (not in as it was in original picture) might go on my quad to finish it off (kashimaz aero seat, Haro sport bars etc).  Then will have a blank canvas for the TA.

I will take a pic of how it looks now though prior to stripping it down tomorrow.

Post by: dannywhiteley on January 16, 2009, 03:54 PM
Swap with the white one has fallen through so decided to keep it and use this (hope you dont mind munners) as the inspiration for mine.  Nicest chrome TA ive seen.

And best bit is I get to keep my black tuffs.

Freestyle look - I'd go blk Comp ST's , new pedals & straight seatpost , MX900/1000's ( potts or cable down/up forks ) , OPC .
Race - Comp 3's/Knarlers etc in blk , new pedals & straight seatpost , rear MX900/1000 , Arayas/Ukais , race plate , padset .

+1 on the blk comp ST's, Shamano DX Pedals, straight seat post, race bars like 8" GT Pro Bars. Keep the flights - I think they're sweet on a TA.

theres so much that looks good on them :)

Heres mine as of now (looks so much nicer than that first pic I posted).  What do you reckon?  Only minor tweaks required perhaps? (black tyres - not freestyle though, blue mx1000's, power disc/red chainwheel combo, red stem, red seat clamp, a 1pc and blue platform peds)?

Jeeezzzusss...Dude, if that's with limited resources...I did my OS build for about £170...it's cool to me but mediocre by the standards on here!

You know, that looks like a bike a local kid had BITD...takes me back.  Sweet build  fella!

I have tried mate, with no luuck.  Couple of potentials came to nothing.  I'd sell it and buy a white one as long as I didnt end up losing out.

I saw that you'd tried already but I would wait to find a trade or rough donor to do white , if that's the OG chrome then it's only OG chrome once then it's gone forever .

Plenty about , patience needed  ;) .
