how hard is it to insert the spindle in the arms, i have just got mine from alans, and fook me i cannot get the arms on, very very tight, is there something wrong? i think if i wack it on, they will never come off, and may damage the splines! any idea's guys and gals? ...sam

I haven't tried my new ones yet, but generally they slide on a bit quite easily - even if its only the first half inch or so.
Make sure the splines line up OK though, you really shouldn't need to bash em at all. (Wonder if they've been over chromed???)

Yes I just fitted a set of Macneils to a New Skool which are almost the same fittings & yes they are fooking tight :(
Stick the arms on a radiator for a while & the spindle in the freezer.
Do you have the correct fitting tool ??? If not get one & also cover the spindle with copper ease or some grease before fitting :daumenhoch:

The last Profile I got were very tight, I got a longer bolt than standard and wound them on with a thick scrap washer. after a few ons and offs they slacken up to just tight :LolLolLolLol:

the ol' radiater and fridge sound like a good idea, i will try that, thanks, but once on lets hope i need never get them off, thanks... :daumenhoch:

mine were supertight as well...twat with a rubber mallet and then correct tool to wind em on and they were fine :D

thats what i was doing, but thought i must be doing something wrong, will try again tomoz, but what worries me is how the fook you going to get them off without damaging the inside of an arm, because they dont do a removal tool :idiot2:

The tool for fitting them is also used to remove them :daumenhoch:

lube. helps when it's tight and dry. just lube the ends before you insert. What tool you got.

They do seem to vary a bit in fit I've noticed. I've made my own tool using a longer bolt and a bunch of heavy washers taped together. Make sure everything is spotless (I run a brass wire brush over the splines till they shine), plenty of copper grease everywhere and everything always pulls together in the end.
Wouldn't hurt to freeze the axle and warm the arms though :)

the arms dont even mount onto the spindle without much fooking about...
keen eye to line em up and some deft and precise thwacking required just to get em on...once on, the tool works fine.

I won't use the profile fitting tool again - At least not for the first time fitting the Arms.
WARNING Reason: It'll strip the chrome off the ends as they're so tight.
SOLUTION: Use a block of wood - I use a block of Oak - But any hardwood will do.
Place the bike down on some towels, make sure the you have a block of wood over the spindle underneath and one over the end of the crank arm, where it attaches to the spindle.
Then give them a really good wack with a hammer.
Once they're one you can use the profile tool to remove them and fit them again, just not the first time when they need bedding in.

Mine were like a wizards sleeve.... can pull em off without a tool!

I wouldn't recommend twatting them with a rubber mallet, 'cos if you miss and hit the arm you'll dent them with frightening ease. Trust me... :-\

thats what i thought, i was using a rubber mallet but thought i must be doing something wrong, as i was swinging from overhead, will try when alans send the correct BB.... :D thats another story...

got em all fitted and are well chuffed, not perfect finish, but its for my rider, so dont really care to much....
