Anyone know of any way to remove the Hard Ano off them. Apart from taking then to a plater to remove it.
I've tried:
Media Blasting. Will work but just worried its a bit harsh
Oven Pride.........pointless

Why d'ya wanna do that mate ? Must be proper fooked to do that to e'm !
Can't you shine side them with some wet n dry and leave the inside of the rim hard ano ? ???
-
Yep anno is flaking, and some goon has started to remove the anno and given up so they look a complete pig.....at the moment
-
Oven pride worked fine with mine, came off easy and have now polished up great :smitten:
-
How long did you leave it in the bag for ?
-
Was about 10 mins each rim, but constantly kept them turning in the thick of the oven pride and using my thumbs to rub it in.
-
Ok I'll give that another bash..... :daumenhoch:
-
Just tried the oven pride again and no joy................think they might be chrome plated :-\
TBH its hard to tell..................think I'll take it to a plater to find out ???
-
Try some gasket remover, spray it on and give them a little scrub with a tooth brush, i used my wife's :daumenhoch:
-
i used caustic soda, they took about half an hour but keep checking every couple of mins,i also used a scotch brite pad to help remove it,the hard anno is a real bitch to remove >:(
-
i used oven pride on my hard annod rims but tou have to scrub them with a brillo pad like sawzall said :daumenhoch:
-
caustic soda thats what i use for anadizzzzzzed stuff it works a treat
-
I had a real bad time with my Pro cass 3's
Oven brite in the bag
kept going back to them every 10 mins for about 40 mins , nothing happening hardly
so left them for about another 40 mins , patchy as hell still ano on in parts and just started to pit away at the rims
,,, gutted to say the least as these rims only had minimal brake rub on the rear only and front was like NOS :crazy2:
I'd advise you to agitate it as much as possible wih a brillo or equivelant
rather than let any type of acid do the work as the coating really is unbelievably hard on the Pro class 3 's :-\
-
Normal anno comes off in upto 15 mins
this stuff doesn't :(
-
Ok chaps...........I'll give it another bash............oven pride bag here I come !!!!!!!
-
Get some pics up mate - you know we're all voyeurs on here :LolLolLolLol:
-
I'll get my fat fingers on the case tonight :daumenhoch:
I'll put some special pictures on tonight :D
-
So I've tried the Oven Pride trick again..left em for 20 min.......scotch brite rub down. in total they had 4 x rub downs and 120 mins in the bag.........didnt touch them.........
Any Idea's

:LolLolLolLol:
120 minuted in the costic and the y will be proclass superlite 1 1/8 sideless. be carefull with the stuff and do it outdoors. 5 mintues tops or they will get melted. works every time though.
-
No not tried the Caustic approach
I'll give it a bash at the weekend...
I took them into work today and started media blasting.......................bugger that it will take forever !!!
-
If your not totally sure i would have a word with paul or mark at cca. It seems they were withdrawing there services just before christmas. They may have reconsidered from what i gather now.
I went over to take some stuff a few month ago and paul showd us the whole set up. We got talking about possibilites. Hard anno in particular, he said hard anno is a lot more resistant to wear than normal which is why your haveing trouble. Seems it actually strengthens the item which is probably why they started using it on the proclass :daumenhoch:
-
No joy with the caustic...... :'(
Looks like a trip to the platers
-
that looks like chrome to me not anno
-
Did they chrome alloy pro class ??
-
if caustic did't touch it, either you didn't make it strong enough or it's not anno.
-
I think you may need to try kryptonite because it sounds like these feckers use to belong to superman. :P :)
-
The problem i can see with caustic soda now is that you have already started removing the anno in places so when you immerse it in the caustic soda solution it'll start eating away at the alloy where the anno isn't present i think :-\
I would be very cautious and keep checking it all the time or they will have more holes in them than they do now
I have never used caustic soda before but have seen what it did to fishface's 7C's
If i'm talking b*ll*x i'm sure someone will correct me :daumenhoch:

Caustic soda will eat away the bare aluminium, leaving pits.
There's nothing that will eat the anodising and not the ally - anodising is a surface protection put on because it's more haard wearing than the bare metal.
Chromic acid should do it without removing the base metal but it is a very nasty substance and not so easy to get.
Anything abrasive will remove the bare metal quicker than the anodised metal, so again you'll see pitting.
tough job with no easy path. I'd suggest speaking to restoration specialists - classic car places, etc. Or maybe find an anodiser locally that might be able to help out?
