Ok, This is how it is,
I want to buy a retro quad. (I know some/most of you hate these but bare with me) I need to be able to have my coaster brake as an option and no new school frames allow me to use a big enough sprocket to go with the 16t on my coaster tuffs.
the quad retro will allow me to use the bigger chain wheel BUT, it has mounts for a V brake at the rear which stops me (I have a lot of conflicting information on this) using a gyro!
does anyone know if there is a place on the rear dropouts that I could have the mounts moved to which would allow me to use a U brake?
If so, who would I get to perform this mod?
I know that a lot of you are convinced that I won't need a coaster once the rear brake issue is sorted, but I want the option.
I have the whole build mapped out and would love to be able to put it all together before the summer comes.
as always, I greatly appreciate any help/advice that anyone can give me :)

just one question........why do you want a Giro on a race bike?
-
:) All newer race frames will let you use up to a 44/16 gearing with no problem. You can use a v-brake with a gyro, though this is mainly seen on "toy"BMXs! An Odyssey A-Brake can be set up as a center pull brake and will also fit on v-brake mounts too...

I want to use it for old school freestyle stuff!
-
you could mount it to the original brake bridge using a u brake addapter
-
And I think (having checked on my old one) that it has a bridge you can mount a caliper brake on too.

Canti mounts aint the same as U brake mounts so its cant just move them. You would have to get some (make some) U brake mounts
-
on one of my retro quads i am running mx 1000's , obviously mounted to the brake bridge . canti mounts have been removed altogether for thay old school look :smitten: tis the one our very own mr jackel modified .

Ols school look......and feel i would think??

What about using a smaller coaster sprocket on the back, which will allow you to use a smaller chainwheel?
You can get coaster sprockets down to 12T, so 33/12 is about the same as 44/16.

are you saying that I could replace the cog I got with my new coaster tuffs with a 12t one? if so where can I get these?

is the coaster like this?
-
Yup.
-
then i doubt youll be able to buy another smaller sprocket, as ive never seen one with the same internal profile as that.
you could have one made up at a machine shop, or make it yourself, if you used a standard 12 tooth as a template, but i think size wise youd struggle to get less than 14 tooth.
make sure the chain will fit round the hub, and not foul on the nylon anywhere.

Yup, if it takes the standard suntour type of sprocket like mr fruit has linked above.
I've a 12T and a 13T here on my sets. (Have been toying with running a set of coaster tuffs on my new FBM for a laugh)
And I got mine at flatland fuel.
Here's the link:

Pat'll sort you out. He's a good egg.

i just modded a odysee one to fit my suntour hub
just filed the ones i didnt need off
and shaped the other 3 to fit the hub
so i have old skool cassette hub with 12 tooth gearing

stodgy thinks he may have found a new school frame that I can run a 44t sprocket on :D
fingers crossed, I'll let y'all know.
-
WICKED!!!!
The legend that is stodgy has found me a frame that ticks all of my crazy boxes!
New school with a coaster!
