Title: Spacer or not???
Post by: Bushwacked on February 04, 2009, 05:25 PM
Just putting my wheel back in and when the right hand side of the axel is pushed up to the dropout there is this gap on the left...

Room to put a spacer / washer in but do I need to or do I just tighten it up???

I know its a seriously lame question but any help will be appreciated.  :-\

Spacer IMO...but we never worried about it as kids!

Check you alignment of your Wheel to your frame!!

You might want to stick the washer on the left or right side if it aligns your back wheel.

It also might help with alignment of your Sprocket to freewheel depending on which side you put your washer on!!

Tis only a small gap though, so most most people might not be bothered!!  :D

Yeah I would wind it up but as moley says ideally you want your wheel centralised in the stays.
Dont worry if you wind it up and its not central the frame will spring back when you loosen the wheel nut and you can add spacers as required.

Cheers guys - might put the washer on - the thought of the frame having tension added to it worried me slightly - but sure it would be OK either way.

But you have to ask...  :daumenhoch:

if you dont wanna tighten it up, i used two thin washers so the wheel is still central.

Nice one Dave

Put a washer in on the none driver side and the wheel is central... Seems OK but haven't ridden it since due to the weather being as it is.
