So, its stripped down to bare frame and forks and headset (nice Tange 320 and lock nut), and think it looks pretty good considering, much nicer than the picture I had in my head.
If this was yours would you be happy to build it, or would you consider a rechrome or powder? I do prefer white ones, but original chrome is always a winner... Inside the forks are the worst area.
Its an early curved bridge Jap made model. Serial is K 01344.

dont look to bad, but i know what you mean, there is a place in chesham who will strip it, they have just done a ta xl for me and SBD has painted it, picked it up this morning
-
What was the question again :)
-
Keep the original chrome as it still pretty good and i love survivor bikes, build it up and ride it! thats what these bikes were intended on doing, not being restored then just bought to look at. :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:
-
WHS^^^
I'd leave it as it is, the worst area inside the forks would be hidden by brake and wheel... build it... ride it... :daumenhoch:
If it were re-chromed it would be to minty to ride
Survivor bikes rock... :)
-
I agree, just look at the shiney bits and ignore the rest ;)

Who are they? I work in chesham, can they rechrome too?
Sorry slight hijack there ::)
servex in bellingdon rd, will strip but dont do chroming, speak to gashead or stidd about getting something chromed
-
Cheers, how much would it cost to strip and rechrome just the forks? Im getting round to liking the chrome rather than a white one to be honest.
Do you live in Chesh, Pete?
-
i think that is real nice as is danny. original and looks mint from view early frame with nice drops gotta be a keepa that mate

Listen to Pete on that one :daumenhoch:. I reckon its a good idea just getting the forks chromed Danny, i know this might be silly but that you tried the coke and tin foil trick on that BB area?? ??? ???

I agree with all the things Glen has to say... The one i agree the most with is to ride it! :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:
-
Sorry to ruin it for everyone, but I aint no rider, never was, never will be. This is a strictly wall flower... :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol:

Buy yourself a NS Racer or even OS Racer and become better... have that as one of your 2009 BMX Goals :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:

The TA will be my last bike for a while, cant afford to spend any more on BMX for a good while. Just picked this up (cheers Arnaud - just as nice as in the pics) for the TA, tis a lovely looking seat.

Nice!, is it me or is it a padded one? :smitten:
-
Yeah, its padded, its a beautiful seat. Building up the parts for it, just need a blue stem, blue MX1000 and some black Comp III's, then im ready to go.
-
Nice Danny, but i really do think you should get yourself a race ready, track thraser of a Race bike and get some learning in!... You wont regret it when you start winning finals and becoming a pretty good racer :daumenhoch:
-
can you take a pic of the back, I want to see if it has as much of a fat ass as the newer ones on ebay.

think we did it before in another thread Glen ?
-
It'll have to be tomorrow mate, its in the shed now and its dark and wet outside.
-
OS padded kashimax aero. Its not as chunky as that new one. The photo doesnt do it any favours, its mint in the flesh..

I think it looks great, love the blue head set on it too. Makes me want a TA now. Always loved the decals on a TA - :smitten:

Lovely seat.

Danny ,
If you're local to Pete then you're not a million miles from me either . I said on the other thread about it's only OG chrome once then it's gone forever , my attitude has changed massively over the last 4-5 years and I'm so glad I've not rushed builds because now I appreciate the Original finish so much more you would'nt believe ! .
I've some builds here that maybe when I picked them up ( could be 4+ years ago ) I was totally of the mindset ....... "Re-chrome or paint straight away" ! ........ but there's a lot to be said for OG stuff . Now I'm looking at them totally different , I'm so glad I did'nt re-do all this stuff .
There will always be peeps that will massacre stuff be it re-chrome/powder ( when in reality it could've been saved/gently restored ) or totally and utterly over polish stuff to sh1t so it's all shiny like it never was .
I don't favour the typical dream kinda bikes ( like TA's , Gen 1's , Rippers ) as in the ones I have or will build but my proudest moments in this hobby was getting some credit for my first ever OS builds at MK08 from the people on here ( they know who they are ) I respect so much and have helped me enormously .
To me it's all about passion & building bikes I think are right , IMO ( not everyones ! ) I like things to be reasonably rea correct but that's me ! lol . It all takes time & IMO building a bike in 5 mins does'nt work ( the parts ARE out there ) .
;)
P.S. I don't not like TA's/Gen 1's btw , bitd my brother had one of the first Gen 1's in the UK ( it cracked pretty quick where we all know they went ! ) and a very early white TA F+F so I do like em but choose to collect maybe slightly more obscure stuff generally .

Yep, that's the one ;)

Im not too far off finishing the TA. Just picked up a stem from munners a nd hopefully a blue MX1000 rear from somewhere else, so only need tyres now and its ready to build.
Regarding timescales, I built my quad in 8 weeks. I am extremely happy with it, being 90% era correct (tyres, grips are wrong - rainbow comps, later a'mes). To get it 100% era correct, with totally top notch parts would cost me more and have taken longer but I am more than happy with it.
The TA will also be 90% era correct, but thats good enough for me (and it will stay OG chrome)... :)
You can build a bike to 90% correctness within a month by throwing money at it, its that extra 10% that regardless of money takes the time finding the parts.
