reading through the other thread about fiolas signature frame it dawned on me that rad is
full of people who "were someone" BITD we have loads of ex factory racers, team sponsored freestylers,
some of the biggest names in bmx history frequent theses boards.
so........................................................ who did fook all as a kid apart for pedal about on their bmx, read bmx weekly
and dream about owning a decent bike ;D ;D
there must be loads of us on here that just enjoyed our bike but never achieved anything.
COME ON STAND UP AND BE COUNTED :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:

me! :LolLolLolLol:

x2... always had a good bike though.....

Im proud to say I was shite on a BMX and even prouder to say I still am :daumenhoch:

I was a complete nobody back in the day.
I'm proud to say that I remain an even greater nobody today. I ride with nobody's at the weekend. I'm glad to say that Nobody's beaten me at every race and I beat nobody as well.
-
I'm still a nobody! At least i'm consistent.
-
I managed to win a race, clear some doubles but still remained a "nobody" to :-[
-
me i was and still am really really crap. but still love it
-
I am from nowhere and am nobody so have nothing to offer other than nothingness
Move along, nothing to see
-
Count me in, just the average kid, racing on sundays and freestyling in the streets the week, on some very average bike.. :)
-

-
Me - although I was the best in our close on the estate I grew up on (could do a brake stand see - no-one else could...)
I did meet Andy Ruffel once at a signing in a Raleigh bike shop in about '85 - he asked me how many back hops I could do - I lied and said 20...
-
i'm spartacus.
i never did the magazine thing back in the day, i rode untill i had to go in. like everybody else i knew.

Jon, it stays lighter for longer up north lad :)
-
I swapped parts better than Fiola , best in Rossie park for my age BITD
-
I was a nobody. :)
My only claim to fame was I could out gate Sam Dovey at C0cksmoors gate practice, although him being a darn good racer meant my lead never lasted long.
But if I did keep up he sent me over a berm :LolLolLolLol:
-
i remember constant scabs on my knees from falling of and then my feet slipping off my rat traps and ripping the scab constantly still have the marks but i was nobody and didnt care i loved my bike and rode all day until it was time to go in but then i didnt stop thinking about my bike and couldnt wait till the next day
-
Was a nobody, rode a Night Burner at first, then managed to scrape together all my paper round cash and delivering football pools cash for a battered Haro which I don't sadly have anymore :-[. Done a couple of local comps around my area, came 2nd in one of them (by chance), decided to concentrate on ground tricks after that.... slowly started to notice that my Aero outfit wouldn't fit anymore, then found beer, women and forgot about BMX's. Now back again and have been for the last 7 odd years, still a nobody but back in love with BMX's again! I don't ride now, but thinking about starting it up again once my TRM is done :D

aye, but going in time wasn't always when it went dark when i was a young person. 9 o'clock when i had my burner :LolLolLolLol:
-
I have ear marked my Pro Class as the 09 rider for my dirt campaign
-
I was just one of the five in my village - but we all loved, breathed - rode till we dropped or the bike fell apart - the bmx was a body part as far as we where concerned
the worlds film needs extra's - i was one of them ;D
growing up was- born - toys - bmx - skateboarding - girls - pub - cars - hard work and back round to bmx's again >:D
cheers B :D

I won 1 trophy indoor racing...the whoops where massive rolled up carpets....so I guess that makes me nobody ;D
It all gets a bit serious here sometimes....I can't see the big deal about people trying to be like a BMX authority cos in everyday life people whould just laugh you off your kids bike ;D
Keep it fun, keep it real and enjoy the ride :D
-
aye.
-
I'm even less than nobody...BITD I just saw the bikes in the window of motorcycle city, thought WTF, and carried on walking...Now I'm the king of crapstyle in my kingdom of zeros.
Ray.

Me . But i once spoke to eddy king. :daumenhoch:
Bof - you're a legend FFS! Who can ever forget you're departure at Redcar circa 87/88
Plus, more recently you're a National winner in the 40+ Hobbit class and an OS Racing Chump :4_17_5:
-
ME,me,me & proud of it. did the nationals in 86 and never got out of the moto's http:// ;D ;D ;D ;D
and the brit champs in 87 as this pic proves lol http:// :-[
(http://)(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/k388/willchuddy/87brits17.jpg)
raced for the fun of it, (1556)
1st time i went to the bmx track they wouldnt let me race my magnum as it had cotterpin cranks and they deemed them as dangerous so i had to use my mates motomag, soon got rid of the magnum for a torker frame
1981/2ish
won't mention his name but used to race every week at three sisters and used to get beaten by the same lad each week, one week i got a trophy (3rd) and the same lad finnished 4th,when his dad collected him he asked chuddys got a trophy where's yours, he gave up after that :2funny:
oh ive also snapped a pair of torker forks on the second hump of kong ( my own fault for endo-ing cos i didnt pedal fast enough up the bugger)
-
i used mine for my paper round.
-
As well as being complete no-marks we also had nowhere to ride! There's no smart stories of local hotspots for me. We had a ghetto track in a local park with a few tyres scattered about as corner markers, the main feature was a yellow mk1 escort bonnet propped up against a low wall for a jump. Other than that it was planks and bricks outside the house or a trip down the canal to a 'quarter pipe' which consisted of a grass bank with slightly shorter grass and an over vert plank of wood that held the footpath up. Good times. Of course, once we atrted going to the races we had a more varied slection of terrain available.....

Another nobody checking in here.
Always have been, always will be.
But would rather be one of the anonymous good guys than a high profile prick.

but i was a nobody then and i am now

Couldn't agree more Mike :daumenhoch:

Good thread, just messed about after school and during hoildays.
Mainly we'd blast down to Stechford Cycles or H Craig in Bordesley Green, or have a jolly at the Chelmsley Eagles track. Like most have said just kids on bikes like millions of others, reading BMX Action and Bi Weekly and watching BMX Beat
Had a Halfords Turbo by the way ;D (it did have 'aftermarket' genuine CW bars, DX's and Mushies though!!)
Now enjoying old school BMX more than ever and rediscovering/learning about the past.
-
i had a shit bike. falcon pro with ogk blue mags.i cant do any tricks last time i tried i tore a hole in my nut sack.my wife takes the piss when i take viper in to town for a ride she says i look like a performing bear in a chinese circus :2funny: why are we all stuck in the eighties ie bmxs trainers clothes i love it

So a big yey for all us nobods still keepin our dreams and youth alive :4_17_5:

Great Idea Let's have a BMX Team Nobody...I will be team bunny hop coach and next year we can practice rockwalks....I think the factory uniform should be brown and we will not allow anyone who thinks they are a BMX authority to join...they will be banned by our comittee and are goal is to stamp out BMX Bull5hit whilst having a laugh along the way :LolLolLolLol:

crap then crapper now lol but still a nobody
must have iron on transfer team jerseys and we must find an endo coach............wonder where? ;)
-
I'm not sure that anyone was a nobody. Anyone who was involved from the late 70's to now has had an effect on things even if they only went to watch a few displays or races.
The real big stars would have been nobody's if their skills wern't appreciated by others.
I don't know what else I would have done in my early teens if BMX'S wern't about, it was like a huge social club. You could go riding almost anywhere and meet up with someone building a dirt jump or practicing tricks in a car park.
I'm still a nobody though :)
-
Endo's are way to advanced at this moment intime we need to perfect the basics first..We will also need a bullshit detector for meets so we can keep it full of good dude nobodys and root out the jockeys
:LolLolLolLol:
-

Hopefully, I'll be able to remove my stabilizers after some intensive tuition!! :)
-
Moley we will have you bunnyhopping kerbs for fun with 6 months intensive training :daumenhoch:

I think I once got some airtime off a kerb
-
Me too...on a Red Puch Invader!!
Spent my pocket money on 'mongoose' decals, dice caps, meteor-lite donuts and those 'sharp bottom bracket boots'; If i'd have saved up I could have had a decent ride..!
...try explainin' that t'kids these days and thee won't believe you! ;D
-
I have ear marked my Pro Class as the 09 rider for my dirt campaign
Me too Paul - see you on the dirt you crazy fool :idiot2: I think you should race your nipper's Nipper Ripper :2funny:
At 13 and 14 I rode my '83 Cali off every piece of wood or dirt we could shape into a ramp, fractured my skull trying to aerial (helmets were gay) and 25 years later, fractured my skull trying to ride concrete when I should know better (helmets are STILL gay!). In between all I have discovered is women, beer and debt, so I think I know why we're all stuck in the 80's - it's just DENIAL
First person in the known schoolboy universe to back-hop over a hundred (the earth is only as big as your home-town :2funny: ), first to bunnyhop over and upside down bike and first to smash a Tuff II and had my LBS hang it on the wall behind the counter to scare kids about dangerous riding for years, but still proud to be a nobody. These days I'm just glad to go out for a spin and explain to the youth how it all started and why a Gen1 is a special bike and they should stop laughing....... :-\

i was naff on my bike but i lived up the park, being i was 4foot nothing and had a 10 ton super burner i was lucky if i could get it off the ground but i loved that bike it was the best day of my life when i got that bike but i always dreamed of getting a haro gen 1, got 2x 85's so need to save them pennys to get that dream bike. Don't think it matters what bike you had as long as you enjoyed it. BMX forever!!! :smitten:
-
i werent too bad on my bike i could bunny hop kerbs ,360 on the flat jump most of the bowls at southsea(there 4x a week in 83-85)
the local portsea kids used to lay down and get me to bunny hop them, but like you say any dirt mound or wooden ramps we used to try and out jump each other
such good times :daumenhoch:
-
i just remmebered a trick i used to do and still do now
where you pull back on the bike and lift the rear wheel while the front rolls along the floor then you brake and the rear wheel comes down and you then repeat the process sort of like a reversing caterpiller(insect not dozer)
-
say after me...................
"I AM SOMEBODY !" :LolLolLolLol:
-
ERRRR ............HI IM JOHN AND IM SHIT ON A BMX!!!!!!!!!! AND I WAS BITD!!!!!!!!!
-
Is a proud memebr of Team Nobody
-
Me.
Cant even remember what my bike was!!! I just know i washed about a thousand cars through the summer to save for a pair of lavender tuff's from halfords in basildon. My bike was white and sh*t, but with the tuffs and a set of lavender custom skyway ta stickers in lavender from Radcity as far as i was concerned i was GOD.
Just talking about it stirs up old feelings of putting those tuff's on my bmx, i could'nt belive they were mine. After dinner i would go in the garage just to sit and look at them. F*ckin brilliant.
Good weekend to you all. :daumenhoch:

Hi i am steve, age 35, I to was absolutely crap on a bmx. GOD I FEEL BETTER FOR THAT,
I to remember wishing and dreaming for a pair of skyways in halfords in basildon. Ended up with acorn freestyle wheels :'( :'( :'(. whilst all mi mats had TA's and PK's i was on a super burner and a second hand one at that :'( :'( :'( :'( wich i scraped the gold of two make it chrome like my mates TA
About the best trick i could do was to pedal like mad across lake meadows then dismount of the frame stands and run like fcuk after my bike while it freewheel across the park and jump back on. :-[
god it was good :daumenhoch:
