I have this nos set of Blue Shimano Dx pedals.
Are these the real deal? They look like it to me. They don't look like they have been refurbed.
What do you think??
Also anyone got any good methods for removing the centre caps without causing damage?
Cheers all. :daumenhoch:

look nos in the pickies, dont forget nos means never been used or fitted, not in perfect condition.....
even when they were made they werent 100% perfect, nothing is..... ;)
-
Yep, those look original to me too.
The paint on the studs is a good sign.
I have an NOS set in gold, and can see the similarities.

Firstly......
Are these the ones that were in Germany on ebay?
I have NOS ones and they are slightly more shiney annod.
Ive got 3 sets of DX's and the edges around the caps are alot neater than those!!!!!
Dont wanna put doubt in ya head mate.
Just being honest.

with my one good eye, they look painted and restored but fairly good
i could also be wrong thou.
-
I agree, these are painted.........

Here are my painted ones
But look pretty good 8)

dx's were lacquered not anno so it's hard to tell. They look very nice. the endcaps just unscrew mate, use some pliers carefully in the 2 indentations and unscrew(anticlockwise lol) if what's underneath will help you see the truth.
for what it's worth, they look original to me, the ends show no sign of refurbishment and the end caps are original.
-
They look good to me, take a pick from a distance the shininess will prob look a little different then close ups and look more like the one's munners posted. if they were recons then i would expect the ends to be smoother as when filed the texture is taken out.

Oh Munners, you just burst my bubble. :'(
Nah no worries, i did ask and i like your honesty.
Yes they are the ones from german ebay. And it looks like i might have paid to much then??
Any chance you could pm me munners with some pics of your DX's around the end cap area???
I do remember sort of when i was a kid not everything new was prefect. But bloody hell that was a long time ago now :2funny:

Cheers JT,
I will take the caps off today for a look. How can you tell the caps are original?
Thanks :daumenhoch:

Thanks Steve, I will take a pic from a distance and we can all see then.............
Never thought about your last two comments and i do agree if they were refurbed they would be smooth and not have texture.
The marks must just be from that good old 80's manufacturing. :daumenhoch:

Hi mate
Ive got red, gold and blue and the edges around where the end caps fit are perfect. No imperfections.
I was watching them! >:D The only reason i didnt bid was because they looked slightly more blue than mine. I was suspect at the time.
HOWEVER....................They definitely havent been rubbed down as the grain in the pedals would have disapeared. Yours are still there. At worst they may have been re-annod or painted.
Obviously you had your doubts too as you have asked our opinion. Remember though that the finish on SX's and DX's are totally different. SX's are mega shiney and DX's aint.
If i could see them in the flesh i would be able to help further. :)
-
it was only the marking and not nice finish around the end caps that made me say refured
they just dont look tidy enough from what i have seen thats all.

Yeah still unsure as there are many different views here, but i have removed the end caps and they do look new and not refurbed.
Checkout the new pics, tell me what you think...
I do remember a little back in the day some parts not having a good finish......
Cheers,

Cheers Munners,
Yeah it is always hard when buying and you can't see the item in the flesh and there are people out there refurbing then selling as NOS.
Don't we all just hate that.
Well i am real happy with them. Never had a blue pair as a kid, just a sliver pair.
I have seen from some old footage and flims etc a couple of different shades of blue before, which was what got me thinking.
P.s checkout the pic of the ped with end cap removed.
Thanks for your help Munnners... :daumenhoch:

No probs.
Looking at them now they look fine.
Take some pics out in the daylight and turn the flash off mate. :)
-
Look like NOS to me, just not 100% perfect in production which adds to the product and goes to show the Japs QC processes weren't as good as we'd like to think they are :daumenhoch:

Cheers MartyC,
I agree, i have for the last few yrs worked on brand new Mitsubishi cars in the UK, looks like those Japs still haven't got a top QC process. But then who ever has.
