Hey Guys,
A young N/s rider that I ride with occasionally wants to remove annodising from a brand new chainring to expose the metal then polish it up, what's the best way to remove it without damaging the chainring?
is nitromors the way to go ?

Goto B&Q and buy the smallest Costic Soda they got about £3
Pour half into a plastic container/bottom of bucket and enough water just to cover the chainring.
Use a set of tongues or rubbergloves to place in .. then keep checking every 30seconds,, should be done in 2mins.

nah oven pride oven cleaner in a bag but you anodised product in and just rub the oven cleaner into it every minute of so
works great :)

The easiest is ether oven pride or caustic soda.
With caustic soda it literally takes 30 40 seconds so dont leave it to long.
You have to watch out for the fumes with caustic soda.
Dot get it on your hands.
wash thoroughly afterwards.
Dont do it near the children.
With oven pride you can put it in the bag provided and leave it.
relatively fume free.
the usual precautions when using a corrosive.

not used it myself
I have used oven pride though and think on some items its been a little tame ???
and needed persuasion

I turned a new school stem from gold to nice polished silver yesterday it comes of alot easier then it does on os stuff. Oven pride is alot safer than caustic imo.

oven pride, its like it was made for it. did som ebits the other day and they came out perfect.

Ive used both .. just found caustic cheaper n easier.

also use caustic soda outside and don`t leave what you are doing in it too long as will destroy it , i normally stick stuff in a bucket and then use a cloth to clean colour off straight after

Ok Guys I think we'll go the caustic route as it will be easier to source here in Mallorca, we don't have TESCO here.
I'll do my mates one first as a test then maybe do my own one :2funny:

i did 50 seatclamps, 20 stems, 10 odd rims, 10 odd chainrings and a couple of other bits and bobs in 10 minutes or less with a large bucket and a large caustic, a pair of chemical gloves(4 quid) and a large bucket of cold water with a whole thing of vinegar poured in it at the side to put the parts in when done, stops the caustice in it's tracks. All done outside, add caustic to water not the other way round. It's nasty stuff, but if you treat it with respect you will be ok.

pour it down the drain.. its sold as a drain unblocker

down the drain is not a problem, the more diluted it becomes the less harmful. No point dilly dallying around with the mix, make it as strong as possible so the bits fizz good when doing it. Takes literally seconds. They need a good rinse and a scrub afterwards and then they ae ready for polishing or painting. I'm doing a big load :shocked: next week, i'll make pics on how it goes as i do it.

I then was going to polish with Autosol then realised I had run out :tickedoff: so just a quick polish with some crap I had at home as I need my bike to go riding tomorrow.

After I go riding I will buy some autosol remove it again and polish it to bling bling chrome to match my bling bling chrome FBR forks that stodgy posted today.

You can find an anodizing company and ask them to de-anodize whatever you have, I'm getting some rims done next week so will report.

Why pay when this cost me 3 euros for the caustic soda and 30 mins to do ! and I still have loads of product left. :daumenhoch:
