yep! do your budget build!

its all about being tight, begging favours and having a bit of imagination to restore or modify stuff to fit your theme.

It will be interesting to see how much it all comes to, and what the pro's and cons are of doing it this way, as compared to buying a complete.

Ive had a few bits offa the postie too.

Logan army bars, £10 off the bay, £15 posted

TNT stem, £17 off the bay, machining on this is lovely, hollowed out underneath, bolts are a bit rusty though.

Red anno headset spacers, Bru do you need some of these? ive only used 1. £7 off the bay.

the forks were pretty long and have a welded nut, but thats fine, i like high bars, as it makes it seem like your less likely to go over the top of them....looks a bit like a fllexfighter :D

Ame tri's, from the shed.......is this a cost?  Oldschool touch no1 >:D

Oldschool touch no2 :crazy2: £7 posted

cheapy halfords clamp, seems ok though decent machining. £2.99

Primo son of a bomb wheel, jibbed of a local bike shop, going out of buisness now, but who i used to get my stuff off bitd. he had a few quality bits in a display cabinet an good prices.
£35, pricey, but nicey.

Cometey goodness. buy one get one free as long as you pay 15 quid posted.

another £97 in total. hmm.

dont diss the tyres.....lol

i like whitewalls, and lammellos, but you get told off from stodgy if you have anything but black on new schools apparently.

Bru, thats looking both
a:Sic, and
B:Phat.

Strip the pegs though. its fickle, i think on a rider, but i think you should get it looking nice for its first outing, then any subsequent damage, rust or scratching only adds to it.

this is obviously some strange usage of the word 'skint' that I was previously unaware of lol  :idiot2:

Title: Re: Bru and fruits budget builds.
Post by: oberonspacefruit on March 04, 2009, 07:10 PM
well, ive spent about 180, but those are parts that ive accumulated over about 2 years....lol
Oh, and other parts ive restored or repainted.

trust me, Im skint at the moment, and the only way ive been able to afford the frame was through flogging off my last few bits of oldschool stuff.
Title: Re: Bru and fruits budget builds.
Post by: oberonspacefruit on March 04, 2009, 11:13 PM
perhaps gav was expecting a 30 quid budget build.

Believe me, im the first person to say that this is beginning to get expensive, but ive bought  only 2 "new" parts.

part of the interest of this, will be whether or not it would have been cheaper buying a complete, and the implacations that has.

Would i have been as happy with a complete?

Who can tell.

It would certainly have been a lot less fooking work.

depends what you have as a start point I suppose, build from ground up or fix something up - this came to a toal of about £70, and the donor bike cost £22 of that to start with, I scrounged and scoured ebay and got other deals on parts http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php'topic=77701.msg790438#msg790438
If you need a seatpost I have the odyssey intac still, totally as new and only £9 posted as opposed to £15 cheapest one youcan get on ebay

Ive got a post thanks, from jt71, 15 quid for a pivotal and post.

Thats budgety isnt it? would have been a lot more new, and i still had an element of choice.

I suppose your build is better value for money. ;)

Anyway.................. ::)

heres todays work:

Tenner for a rim, had the hub already.
