Post by: 20to26 on March 06, 2009, 07:02 PM
what we think about this - £400 for what looks like a nice bike, but with only a Cromo Down Tube...

what I find most disturbing is the lack of valve stems to pump up the tyres - must have those puncture free rubber jobs...
 :LolLolLolLol:

V. Noah - I haven't bought one - overpriced I reckon, I don't think it's too bad but a retro saddle would have been better & about a £100 less. If Raleigh can do a Tuff Burner for £250 then so can Haro.

When I saw the 06 Sport I had to have one. They were a reasonable price too.

Maybe if you changed a few parts it would look better.

Skin wall tyres for a start. Black tyres on black tuff are a no no IMO.

SE have done a far better job with their re-issues.

I have bought retro se's (nice to ride) and 06 haro sports (better for cruising as they are just too damn heavy).  Now I look at this thing...

At first I thought, looks ok, why not...but then as I got more into BMX and its roots, I looked again.  The second time I thought...this is wrong.  'Too many modern conveniences' they say...what's modern about a half ton steel frame...for that price its got to be 4130, full, not part.
No coaster brake bracket...Ok so the tailwhip brigade might not need it, but since most of the kids today haven't a clue who Bob Haro is....they'll look at it and say Bob who? before moving on and buying a bike covered in skulls.  So it's not really successfully targetted at kids, and old schoolers don't like it as it bastardises their dreams...

So you have to ask....who is this bike for

and the simple answer...someone who doesn't know any better.

Poor effort, cheap parts...expensive to buy, and it would cost too much to put right.

Let the fashion victims take the hit on cost,  pick up unsold ones left for peanuts, make it better...but Bob Haro make you will it not  my young Jedi master :LolLolLolLol:

Yuk. Yuk. Yuk.

Why oh why did Haro do that?

I think that when they brought out the retro Master in 2004 & only 250 of them it was a good idea, New Skool bike with Old Skool look to it, then the retro Sport came out which was pretty much the same, but with worse parts & this didn't sell very well, I think I saw them on ebay for £79 at one point, so why the fook would they try again  ::)

Here is the one I had  8)

:) The only thing  about the 04 Master that is Master related is the decals.Other than that it`s just a Mirra frame, still worthy of the Master name & way better than that new POS.

Maybe they should have left it there...well at least for Haro anyway, but we all know the sport though heavy was kind of ok, and when it got cheap it was worth having, mainly due to the fact that when you sell one you bought cheap you cant lose...

When the er...freestyler is cheap too it might be worth a punt, just for the turnaround profit to be made when they run out...and also something to laugh at...

It still doesnt look good, but if it can be made to look better on the cheap after buying it cheap...then maybe, just maybe...or maybe not  ;D

There`s  a few in bmx museum that have had changes made to them and they look ok !!

When you look at what the gen 1 framesets go for the price of the complete bike seems a bargain ...

If i had the money i`d get one and start tweaking it , flight chainring and nicer seat for starters!!

they`d come with a front brake over here right?

I think with a bit of time and effort, they don't look too bad at all? Fair enough, its not the original but for a thrash about it wouldn't be too bad. I like the top photo  :)

:) Have to agree that that looks pretty good.Wish Haro had done a either a faithful repro or a higher end bike/frame with Gen 1 influences....still I guess you can`t have it all :daumenhoch:

**Nice that Anals have deleted my post in the review of this bike. Why invite reviews if you can`t accept them?
Title: Re: New Haro Original Freestyler
Post by: sweetbeats on March 12, 2009, 03:41 PM
I think if Haro had done a faithful repo, full chromo frameset clearley stamped repro 2008 or whatever they would have cleaned up at say £250 a pop f&f set.
The only thing that resembles a gen 1 is the stickers which I haven't seen close up...just sad they have taken one of the most iconic freestyle framesets ever and didn't even warrant it being made in full chromo instead opting for mainly chromed gas pipes.
If you ever want to do a repop unsuccessfully then this is defiantly the route to follow.
No offence to anybody who has or is buying one of these...my advice would be save your dough and spend it elsewhere. :)
The stuff that SE have done (although not my bag) I like because you can see that they have morals and an eye for quality and understand what the SE heritage means to people...Haro on the other hand have understood non of this when it comes to the above repro. :(

Instead of putting whitewalls on and differant coloured grips etc i wouldnt mind seeing one built with decent new school parts on it, after all the geometry of it is up to date, so why not build one with up to date parts?

Might bring its lardy weight down and make it quite rideable...  :daumenhoch:

The haro decals are the best bit. Always liked their graphics, which is why im using this theme on my latest tart. As you say, keeping it to usable newish school parts.

If i had the money i'd buy one strip it to the frame/forks, bin all the parts and build it with new school parts

None of that tuffs and whitewalls shite... its a new bike ffs....  :D

After doing all that the frame would probably fold in half at the mere sight of a skatepark...  :LolLolLolLol:

It was my idea originally  & even after I left Haro I tried & tried to drum into the powers that be how this bike had to look etc..... I sourced numerous images etc etc plus got input from here & vintage however, as you can see no-one listened, they did their own thing & the result isnt great which is a shame. It had the potential to be the best old school/new school of them all but falls well short.

As for comments like "Bob Haro should sue them" etc you are just talking crap. Bob is still at the office on a regular basis, attends a lot of meetings, is friends with a large percentage of people that work their & even though its nothing official he is still around hence he would have known about this project.

That said (even though its dumbly priced) I think if you have the time & £££ you could make it look really good as a few members here have shown.

DJ, Mackays one looks pretty cool, he's made quite a few changes, even the bars if I'm not mistaken.
There's no doubt that there's going to be demand for this when the prices drop.

The only thing I don't get really is the lack of full Cromo - that's a boardroom type decision...
