Title: Freestyle comp mid 80's Michael Sobbel Centre London
Post by: paul_harrow_mid80s on March 16, 2009, 08:59 PM
Anyone remember a freestyle comp help in the mid 80's in the Michael Sobbel centre, Finsbury, park London just off the hollaway road? I think Neil Ruffell won. I entered and came somewhere pathetically down the rankings.

hmmm not sure its so long ago.

There was one 1/4 pipe and a ramp the other end.

Think Cherry pickers had just come out but can't be sure if that was later.

I remember it was rammed

BMX Action Bike Feb85 no 27 has the pics and details of the 1st one (held at the end of 84). Funny that this was raised cos I sent Trevor Cowell a pic about a week ago, of him at this event on the DP Firebird

Final Positions in the mag show:
1) Craig Campbell - Skyway
2) Terry Jenkins - Haro
3) Paul Hudson - Skyway
4) Glyn Lewis - DP
5) Robert Bell - Skyliners ??
6) Neil Ruffell - Skyway
Joint 7th: Andy Irwin - GT, John McInnes - MRD
9 ) Mason Smith - Rickman

Hope that helps, can post a few of the pics up if you like?

Paul :)

Who won the second holeshot comp?  I remember Campbell popping out onto the halfpipe and Eric Steele Knocking himself out on his first air!

I think pepi and craig got joint first in pro class at the second holeshot comp (1985). The comp where craig hopped into the halfpipe was the last holeshot comp as the halfpipe was there for the skaters and not the bmx's.
