Old School Grands at Preston on the 10th May (North Region BMX Summer Series Round 3)

http://www.northregionbmx.org.uk/preston.html
http://www.prestonpiratesbmxclub.com/

Preston Pirates are organising an Old School Showcase.  Huge US style trophys are on offer to anyone who makes the A Final plus a Cash purse of at least £100 for the top 3 riders (hopefully more).   Also there will be a Show and Shine held in a secure area Trackside with Trophys and prizes for Best Race Bike and Best in Show.

Everyone is welcome and I hope the Scots, Midlanders and Southerners can make the trip.

What a cracking day! The sun was out, loads of people turned up, old friends re-acquainted themselves and some of the hottest racing I've seen in ages.

Brilliant. Thanks everyone.

What a day.

First race back since the old shoulder got dislocated and just happy to get racing to be honest. The old shoulder was swollen a bit so the old ice pack went straight on as soon as I got in.  All the guys were flying so within the next few months hopfully I will be up to speed .

What about Mike and the trebles. Absolutely nuts but man he has guts :daumenhoch:

Kenny Hunters gates were top notch.  :daumenhoch:

Scott D was flyin as usual but do not give him the microphone again as he never shuts up. First BMX next Britains got talent.. ;D

DL.

Yep, what a brilliant day!

I was gutted I couldn't run but I'm in pain so don't want to risk it.  Really annoying as I was out on the track a couple of weeks ago and it's running really nice.

Still I've got a whole load of photos.  They're uploading as I type and I'll stick them on a CD and post them out to the usual suspects.

Been experimenting a little with the camera so I hope you like the results.........

Can't wait until the next meeting.  Is anyone going this Thursday?....

Cheers

Niall

Stevo, brilliant piccys. pmsl at the captions and the one of Mr Hunter is top notch.

Still waiting for the illusive piccy of the treble attempt by Stephen.

The guys on track were super fast. Really impressive riding.

Gate practice and general arsing about from 6pm - 8pm every Thursday.  It's actually meant to be an introduction to BMXing for local youngsters, and hopefully we'll start to see more younger riders turning up from now on, as Scottish Cycling are starting BMX coaching sessions with the local Clydebank secondary schools, taking kids to the track every Tuesday & Wednesday afternoon.  I sold them 10 black/gold SE Looptail Rippers so the kids will have some decent bikes to practise on.

Anyone know Brett's plate number? It's for the results on the Titan's site. From what I see David Herron didn't have one.

Nice pics Niall, look forward to seeing some more.

Stevo,

my plate's 43 - from the 1992 Brits which ended in pain! mentally and physically, tho sunday's result is helping the recovery process.

I'm gonna try to get down to preston for the grands, I know scin (Scott Davidson) said he was up for it.  The Pirates' site shows a pretty gnarly layout of jumps tho' - are you guys sure it's old school friendly?!!

Better late than never......

Great race last week and great to catch up with and race alongside everyone especially the Archibald 'bros'.
I'm glad i clocked up a few wins before they started cos think they be ganging up on me(as well as everyone else!!)

Great photos guys, few crackers, you see stevie fraser jumping the doubles pre treble attempt and we all know what happened next. Well you's will when i find the cable to get the video footage online.

And due to a bust rib i won't be on my bike for a month or so but will be back, which rules out preston unfortunately but maybe my bike is too mid school to have raced anyway.....???

Cheers to everyone who helped at the race and look forward to seeing you's all soon..

In a couple of hours to those who are going down today............ :) :)

Cool pics Niall. Hope the session at the track went well.

Got a bizarre message through the titans site from an OS rider Tracy Neilson (race name Chicken George):
Quote
Raced in the 80\'s at most tracks in UK.Have so many trophies, lost count..Beat Keely Mulkerens (have you heard of her?)and the American bird wae the big winnibago-(Donna something!)I\'m a bit of an old trout (like the old school really)but miss ma Robinson and all the glory....ma brother still races wae ma uncle...up the titans!!!!!
???
Any one heard of her or the riders she mentions?

its not really a good location paulo, its on top of a hill and badly affected by wind.

Been there three times now and I think I must have been lucky with the wind factor. Clydebank is terrible for wind, mostly Kenny Scullion, but sometimes the westerly. Turn the first berm and whollop. You end up going backwards. But it's the same for all.

I'd have like to race Cumbernauld bitd. Bet it was a fab atmosphere.

The current Track was not built till the early 90's so by then the racing was not so big but the atmosphere was still good - as a kid I loved the old Cumbernald Track which was round the corner,  the one with the drop of at the end  :daumenhoch:

the original c-nauld track was my local and one of the best there was in scotland, most everyone who rode it seemed to like it.

i was seriously upset when it got ploughed to build the clyde f.c. park, which strangely enough was no where near where the track was and the ground is still empty. :(

I guess all the wind jokes ruined it for today :) although it was good to put faces to a few names. Just thinking about the old time and the most scary start - I reckon Glenrothes  wins hands down for scary starts what you guy's think?

Yep, the weather can be a right pain.  We didn't go because of that.

Still, let's see what Sunday brings.....
Title: Re: Scottish Oldschool Summer 2009 Series
Post by: bmxr on May 07, 2009, 09:45 PM
You can blame/thank Stevie Fowler for the new C-nod track; he designed it, maybe he also had a hand in the Glenrothes layout as that was his home track!  I still have nightmares about that start hill in the wind & rain - it definitely favoured the big power riders and had a long start straight from memory.

Who's headin to Preston this weekend? - I'm still nursing my triples-wound from sunday, but am still up for it..........everyone at Clydebank seems to be riding through some injury/pain anyway, I reckon it's all part of riding a 20" at 38

Just wondered if I could blag a lift from Edinburgh to the track this Sunday 17 May. I would obviously chip in for fuel.

For those that don't know, I use City Car Club and it usually costs £60 to travel to the track, so if I race at the next 7 meetings this summer that's over £400 on travel.  :D

Hope someone can oblige. Cheers.

Wow!  That's pretty pricey Steve.  Unfortunately I'm just near Glasgow airport.  However, if you could get the train to this end I'd pick you up and sort you out no bother.

Hopefully someone will be able to help you out but if not then I'm here.

I'll sell you a car...   ;)

We did indeed make it to Preston. Great nite oot saturday and hangover racing on sunday by all except Scott as he was injured, and David who is a good boy and doesn't drink.

Iain and Brett were showing the way all day in the Motos and made the A Final. Iain got a good start but had a collision on the last berm to finish 6th, I think while Brett remained consistent and finished a deserved 2nd. Winning an nice big old school trophy, a tee and £30 prize money. Iain also got a trophy.

Kenny S and Myself made the C Final and finished 4th and 5th respectively. Time to start training we both reckon.

David had a big fall in the morning and sandbagged through his motos. :LolLolLolLol: Then had Moley chasing his ass in the D Final. However, he proved that fully fit he would have been higher in the standings and finished in 1st. Earning his first, but small trophy for over 20 years.

Once again we were made very welcome by the other OS riders and once again a good showing by us Scots. Till next time.... see you all sunday.

p.s. Stevo I may well already be through in Glasgow but if not I will be happy to give you a lift. Failing that Iain Archibald lives over mussleburgh way and may be able to give you a lift. I dont have his number but i'm sure Kenny or Brett have it.

Stevo, I hope you find a lift. £60 a shot is no fun!!! :(

Well done all who went to Preston. Sounds like another great trip across the border, and well done the locals for making everyone welcome.

You've two blokes getting ratted on Saturday and suffered at the track on Sunday. And then you have Davey who behaves himself and gets injured. I think Davey, next time go and do everything you shouldn't the night before!!

Well done to Brett and Iain for reaching the A final  :4_17_5:

Great piccies Stevo to go with some great racing. A full gate of 6-7yo boys provided some impressive riding from the youngers. A full gate of OS had elbows banging, and two motos for the 17+ was simply mad.

Another great day. Thanks all  :daumenhoch:

Results will be posted on www.titansbmx.co.uk (http://www.titansbmx.co.uk) soon Mark.

Got a message from the mother of South Africa's No. 1 (17 expert). They are planning to visit the track for the 21 June race. Probably would race in 17+ with Kenny H, etc.
Quote
I am Angela McGlade from South Africa and i am coming over to scotland on holiday with my husband. My youngest son rides for  17 expert age group and is SA NO 1.  I would like to come and visit the track during my holiday and if possible work on finishline. Please advise if you have any races, i will be in Scotland from the 19th June until the end of June. Please advise, i currently have my sa colours for finishline and would like to gain experience in another country. I would also like to enquire if you have bmx shirts for sale and if you would like me to bring some from Kempton Park in South Africa. I hope to hear from you soon.

Regards
Angela McGlade
We will wait and see if they come along.

Rnd 7. Manchester - 26/7/09
Rnd 8. Hartlepool - 16/8/09 (Also Club Championships)

Winter Regional's 2009/2010
1. Preston - 11/10/09

After MK09 and Manchester the week after, we have a 2 free sundays and September is completely free too (excluding Nationals and the Brits)

Feck knows Mark.  :-\  And Dylan Clayton isn't coming now so, no offence, but I ain't gonna be giving Scottish Cycling £10 so a non-bmxer can "coach" my kid.  I think we've got enough experienced riders at the club already who can help our younger riders progress.  I can feel a rant coming on so I'll leave it there  ::)

It is a shame that Dylan Clayton can't make it to the Coaching. Agree with you Kenny. We have so much talent at the club, the youngsters could do a lot worse than take some guidance from them. I know we've got plans to get a couple of the guys through the coaching exams. Great idea.

Mind you there's a few amazing young riders at the club who could probably teach us old'ns a thing or two. Well me anyway

Hey Paul, I might have sneaked a pass in the exam.... Which to be honest would suit me fine,  Especially with all the crap my work have been giving me.... Enough about that though.

As for the coaching session - fecck me, it seems to me that no one looks at Scottish BMX seriously.  FFS we do our best and we have a great group and yet no-one want's to help us in any way!

BUNCH OF ARSE!

We have one track!  One track for 5 million people!   It sucks ass big time.

I've found a potential site which we could build 2 full size tracks, a set of dirt jumps and aclub shop.  Is the council interested?   HAH!  yeah right!  I'll keep pushing but there's only so far I can go.  Councilors want to be associatted with good things but when it comes to putting in the effort and fronting the cash it's a whole other story......
So what do we do?  I'm not sure - there's a few people who talk the talk but don't walk the walk - same as usual....  If anyone is seriously interested in helping me to try and force something then please get in touch.  I want more for the kids - lets face it, they are the future and it's what it's all about. Plus it means we get to have a go but I need help in doing this - there's only so many hours in a day and I need backing.  If we can get a group together then lets do it rather than sitting on our arses and talking about it.....

I've tried - in vain - to get Rutherglen track upgraded so we could maybe even hold races there, but the local council aren't willing to stump up. I'll be trying to get the local parents behind the idea as there's a local pressure group meeting to get the park where the track's located sorted for kids - as opposed to keeping it as a haven for the local chavs & their dogs/fires/battles.....

I reckon ther'll be the usual suspects at the track tomorrow, myself included  - Kenny H can you bring a demo Ripper XLP?!

Let's kick some arse Niall. Where's the site you've found? Near Glasgow? I think we're better focussed on getting another couple of tracks across the country whilst we increase Glasgow interest in ours. Serious question though. Why do we always look to the council to fund this sort of thing? Why not private investment? A combination of big brands (Vans or GT etc) and local businesses. Dales for example. If Scottish Cycling Association also gets some full-on focus (it can happen, look at the Fort William downhill event), then we could tap into some real talent from our 5 million people.

and it doesn't have to be big. Titans is a superb club. Great people. Great talent and has a lot to offer. Right...where did I leave Richard Bransons phone number?

FWIW the track at Airdrie is in not bad condition for being 20 years old and it has the new skatepark right next to the track.
The google map is not up to date as it doesnt show the skatepark at the ash field to the right.

As some of you will know, our start gate mechanism has been feeling a little sick recently so it is getting sent back to Mr Phil T, who makes them, for a general overhaul and upgrade to 'random' sequence.  Hopefully we'll have it back in time for our race on 7th June.  If there are any problems I will let everyone know.

theres a new track opened at Barshaw Park in Paisley
maybe its just a kiddie track. ;D
http://paisley.eveningtimes.co.uk/news/wheels-in-motion-on-new-bmx-track.html

i've been out there a couple of times, its not a touch on how it was back in the eighties. it's as marc says, three sets of doubles made from scotland's rockiest soil.

some of the locals have been entrusted with tools on the agreement that they keep in 'maintained', and it's never been maintained anytime i've been there, although, i would only work on it 10 minutes before i wanted to ride if i had jumps in a large public park. it's a shame because it could be fun if there was a large group there.

Fear not, I have a set of shiny 180mm Flights for Davie's bike.  And theses ones have left and right pedal threads  :D  He's collecting them on Wednesday.  I'll be over if the weather's decent.  I might bring the Mongoose just for a change, I've not been on it since MK08 I think  :-[  I'll bring the ONE for you to play on though Brett!

The usuall fee applies, £5.00 a lap ;D.

Excellent Davey, how many laps before I complete the HP agreement that's required to buy a ONE - Are you goin tomorrow - heatwave expected in scotland from Thurs!

Kenny u got a price on the complete ONE bike - just for a larf!

Obviously I would be happy to endorse their products by wearing the (free) race top at all Scottish Nationals (Clydebank Track Races) that comes with the bike!!

well tbh, anyone that hasn't ridden trails much wouldn't find them much fun.

sid is 6ft 2" and that set is 17ft approx. you can't roll through these jumps.

theres some more pics on my blog if anyone is interested.

i think the barshaw jumps would be a good re-entry to jumping for some o-s'ers brett, sesh there?

Davey and I checked out Cambusbarron trails just outside Stirling today.  Some pretty decent jumps of various sizes, so something for everyone.  Nice transitions but the surface is a bit loose, which makes stopping a wee bit difficult on a bmx.  Davey ended up in the trees a couple of times and i came damn close too!  ;D  If the weather is good next Saturday I was planning on going back, if anyone else fancies joining me.  Met some MTBers up there and they were a decent bunch, dead friendly and welcoming.  No photos from today but, as a taster, here's a couple I found on flickr of Drew Sowerby over one of the bigger sets...

and here's some grainy footage I found on youtube...

Brilliant day again everyone.

I was surprised at how I went considering how totally crap I felt!  One day I might even stay off the sauce.................................................... mmmmmmaybe......

Anyhow, great turnout, some fantastic racing and it's also good that we seem to have more people commiting themselves to helping.  It should make a big difference to us.  The more people we can get involved then the more leverage we have when it comes to get funding etc.

Great to see everyone having a good old laugh, hopefully I can make it over on Sunday.

we have a great group and together I know we can make the club even better. we have some promising talent coming through which we need to encourage and nurture for the future.

great racing again in all classes. I maybe shouldn't have raced after my crash. I am lay here with a very swollen and bruised heel which I cant bear any weight on now. :'(

What a great bunch all looking to take the club to the next level. Let's work to keep that together. I'm very excited about the club and the direction it's going. Even more excited that we have some impressive young talent at the track.

Some fab racing as well today. 2 motos for the 7-8 yo boys and the 17+, and a full gate for the old school. The random gate worked a treat and surprisingly didn't trip anyone up.

Personally, I had a poor days racing. Just not fit enough whilst the others are improving. Having said that I still think I'm skooting round the track faster than I ever have and the bike control is improving...must try harder.  :-\

Marc - put some strapping on your ankle, keep it elevated and plenty of ice  :daumenhoch:

Looking forward to 21st June

Yeh sounds like a good idea regarding OS v NS...

As Tony said, i ended up, right at the last minute today buying a NS "redline pro" much to my disapointment!

Had my heart set on the NS Kuwahara Laser Light team bike, but i am really only wanting to ride OS with my mates from yesteryears...
With that in mind, I did not realise i couldnt ride OS on a NS bike... so rather than drag out me getting a bike any longer, i have have decided to buy two. a NS bike to get me practicing and at least racing whilst i find a decent OS bike.
I have have made a post in the "WANTED" section of this site and im trawling the net to find something to suit me, bearing in mind im a bit of a bit taller than Spen!  ::)

I am going to pop into Dales on Thursday afternoon for some body armour, shinnies, Gloves and Helmet, so will see you all Thursday night for gate practice. This is were you will all get a bloody good laugh at my expense!  :D Just remember ive only had a go round the track a few times on Kenny's bike... before that it was 20 years ago... so thats my excuse and im sticking to it.  :-[ oh and ill have hay fever... and did i mention the 20 year thing?  :coolsmiley:  ;D

anyway, anyone got any good suggestions where i can source a good OS bike online?

I cant remember who it was i spoke to last thursday, maybe bret or mark, but one of you had a matt grey Bell helmet. Did you buy this through Kenny at the club? If he sells these or anything else anyone can recomend please pm me or reply here as ide rather buy through the club if they have what i am after. which would have been the bloody redline i bought today, but ide never had got it in time for thursday due to me leaving till last minute yet again.  :-\

see you all there!

yeah the OS Guy's can still race in 17+ and there are no rules on age of bikes. I think there is talk of a combined race at the Club Champs in Sept.... Should give you enough time to get back to it Rab  ;). We are very lucky to have such a good group at the club to bring on the other riders... The Brits on the 19/20 Sept should be excellent if we can get enough of the the team to head down. We can have a chat to everyone on Sunday and try to get some interest and numbers

Davey are you back to Race fitness mate ??

Any racing thats adds a bit of excitement is fine by me and top 4 from each o/s and n/s finishes sounds great.Even have a b-final too from 5th-8th from each. The more the merrier. It will get you fit if nothing else.

Looking to buy a new school bike this week too but if we have a combined race it might not matter as i enjoy the o/s and dont want to abandon it...

They are One 8" bar tender bars - I just got mine from Kenny H this week - they are very similar to the Slam Bars but at an Excellent Price. Contact Kenny Hunter to order a pair :)

Flippin eck chaps, loads of banter on here today.

Firstly well done to the guys who went to Leeds. Showing top class.

As for the OS v NS. Sounds like a good idea. I don't fancy having mixed motos though but to have run off A and B finals, that sounds a laugh.

Looking forward to seeing you guys down the track tomorrow. Looking forward to a bit of much needed gate practice.

Rab - keep you eye on here or ebay for quality OS bike and gear. I've just picked up a Bell helmet for £18 on ebay so if you're patient you'll get some good bargains.
Title: Re: Scottish Oldschool Summer 2009 Series
Post by: bmxr on June 17, 2009, 11:10 PM
Rab, If u don't get any joy at Alpine try www.chainreactioncycles.com - the best online gear & prices.

ebay's always good for OS rides, you shouldn't have any bother getting a pro size OS frame, as most of the OS-ers want XXL's as they're a bit more stable for the infirm! - myself included.

See U sunday......unless Kenny's bringing any more bits for my NS ride tomorrow; then I might be tempted to come over - I hadn't planned to as the tendons in my arm are still fooked.
Title: Re: Scottish Oldschool Summer 2009 Series
Post by: Rab-Lambie on June 18, 2009, 12:56 AM
Thanks guys ill will do... will check that link now brett cheers mate...

my problem with buying gear online though is it fitting me.
im a bit taller than Spen with a noggin on me that makes ET's head look normal. got a mad shape and really need to try the helmet on before i buy. crap really as ive seen some right nice helmets online. kinda thinking same on the body armour too. i want some decent body armour with a snug fit... im gonna find it difficult enough getting back into racing without having taking a gamble on ebay for protection and end up having to race with some mad storm trooper outfit that looked much smaller in the online picture.  :D

hope the weather holds out on thursday and sunday... be good to have a race after so long.

ok so it seems everyone likes the idea of a N/S v's O/S Race so I think the format would be like this.

Race the 3 Moto's and Final / 4 Moto's  then split the top 4 from the bottom 4 in each group and race a further A and B final. (I will Volunteer to do the extra sheets etc if needed :) .

We need to also discuss the :Great_Britain: Brit's :Great_Britain: I noticed that all the Static and Lodges are gone in Broadway Park so its either Tent or Caravan (Unless Kenny H has got another Plan)... Think we need to get this planned sooner rather than later.

Stevo, did you manage to get the video's of the last round on-line yet?

I've booked plot 804 at the holiday park for the Fri/Sat (18/19 Sep) nights £56 for a 28ft x 20ft.  It's next to Kenny H's so we can pool our resources (beer fridge, etc).  I'm taking the family, so unfortunately won't be able to offer any vacancies, but if you're going try to book soon and ask for the pitch next to ours 803/804 so we can have a republic of Scotland.

See u's Sunday

dont blame you on the helmet thing mate, ill be lucky if i make the weekend races never mind brits! lol

redline proline pro bike arrived today. seems  like a decent bike to get me going... got it all assembled but a wee tad unsure on the rear break setup. its on but might get one of you to have a look and see if i have it right.  :)

shinnies sound good mate, bring them along anyway, i have a set in mind to match my body armour from dales but not sure if they have my size yet.
as said, ian might take them too but if not fitting you they may not fit him.

even if raining ill be at the track for about 7pm'ish sooner if i can get out of dales.

Apologies if some of you have seen these before but, for the benefit of some of the 'new' Scottish oldschoolers, heres a few pics I have from back in the day....

My mate Graeme 'Fredo' Frederick, 2nd straight doubles at Alloa, around 1985, on a rather nice T/A which is still with the original owner, the same spec as in the photo, including JMC Darrell Young bars. (and no, he ain't selling. I've asked!!)

Brighton 1996 Worlds, inside the UK pits. Jamie Staff chills out on the right, Dale stretches off on the left, where you can also see the late Rob Indri. Were GT's popular back then?  :D

Loving the pictures Kenny, especially the fredo ones. That was one of the first guys I took note of up at my first race meet in Falkirk. He always jumped the last doubles like that. Very cool... always wondered where he went.
Harvey munkton. cool picture too, forgot clean about him till now... all the pics are great actually...

No worries on the shin/knee pads mate but do still bring them. I bought Gloves, Helmet, complete body armour and Shin/knee guards from dales tonight. However... the troy lee helmet I wanted was too small even in large. But there was a large six-six-one full face in large that fitted so I took that one. Wasn’t as nice as I wanted but will get me racing. After tonight though ill need to flog it right after Sunday because it was getting a bit sore just above my hair line. Looks like I need a helmet equator size!

Had a laugh in dales… the guy sent me into changing rooms with my body armour and I took for every trying to put it on. Put the whole thing on like a bloody sweatshirt then got my arm stuck. Couldn’t help but laughing at myself in mirror.

The shin/knee guards are pretty cool, but I don’t know if they are a bit mad big! Fit perfect but I look like a bloody ice hockey goalie in them.

Good to catch everyone again tonight…
Managed to jump everything right up to the triples. When I jumped the doubles I didn’t have much option to stop so jumped the first two triples and road the last. Need to that vice versa I think!
Still trying to get the feel of the bike though… but im getting there. It was mad windy tonight as has been said… back straights were a nightmare. I was totally fecked from pedaling. I think the gear maybe needs changed. I used to run 44 x 17 and this is maybe 44 x 16… then again, maybe its just coz ive sat on my arse for the past 20 years!

I didn’t leave the track till about 9.20pm just stoted about on my Todd. Was sitting on the last berm when I noticed a police van  :police: over at the gate hill. So I made my way over… they were out walking round my car and one was looking under it. Asked them if I could help and they told me NAW! I said “but that’s my motor” he then says… “Wee man you’re no old enough to even drive” I had to get the bloody helmet off and roll down the start hill to get the dik to believe me. He then laughed and said it’s been reported and suspicious; neighbors think it’s been stole and dumped. Then he has a go at me for parking on the grass… I just said it was a race meeting and im last to leave…   so I called it a night after that.  :)

I'm the same - huge noggin! U no what they say tho; big head............bigger helmet - XL should do it

I think the polis were just speccin out ur ride -  It does look out of place in C-Bank.

It doesn't matter what the armour looks like - it will do the job when the time comes, as it has to all who have been tempted back to the track after 20+ years......just remember to wear it, even for practice!! I took a dive on the triples when the body armour was doing a great job of protecting the boot of the car!!

Gogo - u headin over this Sun? am no racin so you'll have some company on the berm.

Friggin windy on Thursday. Best bit was seeing the plane pull out of it's approach.

Rab - glad you got your gear sorted. Bretts spot on. Wear in practice as well, you never know when those triples will catch up out.

Having said that the third straight was well fast with the wind behind you. Looking forward to Sunday. It's gonna be mad. 5 moto's. I haven't done that since 1983.

Need to make sure we take loads of pics and videos.

Kenny H - don't forget the car stickers and the bank stuff :daumenhoch:

well have to say i had a great laugh today... really enjoyed it but feck me did i race bad. in my head i know what im supposed to be doing but can i keep my feet on those bloody pedals!!!!  :-\ ;D ;D :-[ every single race i lost the pedals... just goes to show you you can jump, gate and whatever...  but unless you have technique you havent a hope. sadly the later was one of several issues ill have to overcome before i'm ever gonna win a race.  :D :D :D :D

I have a few of the races already lifted from my camera. will get them on youtube tonight or tomorrow night and post them here once i trim them up.
some good races in it along with some funny bits. one in particular already mentioned was me nose diving the doubles with my arse sat on the seat. Ohhh mum and dad will be sooo proud their boy!  :-[  ;D ;D

i think it was a good turn out... everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. the addition of the burgers, music playing and the fun entertainment factor to it all made it a great day. Sean boyles races were funny too... Hey Mountain bike guys (sorry guys dont remember your names), come on lads, get a BMX and make the numbers up, even if its a cruiser... You know you want to.  :coolsmiley: "oh and dont forget shin pads.... that was a bloody sore you got there mate"
Hats off to kenny hunter and co. for all the hard work... The Hamburgers and stuff must have been delicious. i went over twice for something but there was always a good few folk in front of me, so head back onto the track. Maybe a good thing i didnt eat it would have probably slowed me down racing on a full tummy!  ::) :coolsmiley: ;D ;D ;D ;D

Man of the moment has to be Ian Archibald... he seems to have that tracked nailed. by the time he hits the third straight he really is powering home. hats off to Scott Davidson as he put up some great attempts. Some nice racing by Mark McPake too... Bret, Davie, hope the war wounds heal soon guys. maybe wee Rab can rub shoulders between you both on the start hill one day... me with the upper hand now as i know you both have hidden vulnerabilities. HeHeeHeee :knuppel2: ;)  :D

Yeah, good day yesterday. You did well Rab considering it's first race in ages and on a new bike. You can still jump mate:

Didn't take many photos yesterday as the light was poor and sky was grey. Here's some from the 17 May when it was bit brighter.

Managed to get footage off DVD so that will go up on YouTube shortly. Social site coming along also.

Good luck to Kenny in the masters next weekend.

Had a good day.   Learned a lesson not to switch from new skool to old skool to new skool bikes so frequently.   Doing a somersault over the first doubles was fun!   Was wondering when the bike was gonna hit me, as it followed me from behind.    Would have made a good outtakes section on vido.    We should start to archive all the falls and make a compilation for an end of year booze up.   Ma brothers gaff will defo make it on there.   He promises me the videos will be posted tonight!

Rab's jumping makes TJ Baldwin look positively normal  :idiot2:   :2funny:  Some fab racing folks, a pleasure as always.  16 riders in 17+, and if I had bothered my arse to ride we'd have had motos & semis for the first time in 20 years!  Another full gate in oldschool, with some noteable absences through injury, and some ding-dong battles in the younger age groups.  Good to see some new names added to the motosheets with Rab and Martin marking their return to racing.

Me, David & Marc are off to Cheddar this weekend where i will be doing battle in the 30+ both days at Rounds 13/14 of the Euros.  Should be some tough racing but looking forward to it.  I'll keep everyone updated with what injury I manage to pick up this time  ::)

heh heh!  Rab, I swear you were trying to take me out!  lol.  twice you nearly came off right in front of me in exactly the same place - tabletop on the second straight - then in the 3rd race I'm thinking 'I'm getting the hell out of here' - haha!  hell, it made me pedal.....

Unfortunately had to head home as soon as the finals were over as we were supposed to be at my nephews birthday party for 2pm - wooooops!  BMX comes first though.... hehe!

I was over again today, took Megan over on the GT Micro (thanks Kenny, she loves it) and she's sitting at the top of the start hill and turns to me and says "Let me show you how it's done dad" - then scoots off down the hill and rides the track, little imp!

The boys had a great time too, Louie is watching the dvd and wanting to learn how to manual etc.  Reece was really chuffed with his results today - good on him, that's one real tough class the 7-8's have, a brilliant turnout for them too.

Is anyone heading over on Thursday?  The weather is looking brilliant this week.  When's the next race day?

It was a good crack yesterday. Thanks to everyone who helped out. The burgers were fab. :daumenhoch:

Personally I was carp. I'm putting down to the 10 hours of drinking on Saturday, but I think the fact I am carp has a lot to do with it. Two brilliant practice gates and then screwed up every one of my moto starts.

But what a laugh. The youngsters racing was fab but when the big boys are on the start hill every wonders what the hell will happen next. Naill you're kids are coming on a treat. Can you tell my two what to do as they don't pay any attention to me. I said to Alistair to do one thing for me and that's go down the start hill in a straight line. After the third moto Colin turns to me and says "well it's a straight line....just cutting from lane 2 to lane 8!!"

Kenny good luck at Chedder at the weekend. Shame there's no live results on-line.

Hoping to get down on Thursday for some serious gate practice...and if the weathers good with no wind....got my eye on the trebles!!!! ;D

Schhhtop....Schhhtop...Schhhtop....

You have it all wrong guys.... This was a very good landing under the circumstances…
I had actually taken off from the table top before the doubles. This was me just coming into land.  :D :D :D :D

I was hoping to land at the tripples but i couldnt get my speed up quick enough.  :coolsmiley:

excellent pictures guys... loving them.

I have cut the video up and loaded it on youtube. it is uloading as i type this. I have a good few races on this one video
but not all them as i forgot to charge the video camera before i left, so tony was only really videoing 17+, Old School and some cruisers.
This was the first tony had used my camera so bits are a little wonky at times but still good watching. we are going to setup two tripods next race meeting in good positions and get as much as possible compiled to watch on youtube. should have a good wee collection of footage soon.

anyway, my video is still uploading to youtube. its about 10 minutes long so its a huge file. ill post the link as soon as its complete.

Just been to the site of the new Musselburgh track

Looks good...things are moving fast. They hope to have it finished within a fortnight. ;D The track engineer was quite happy for me to be involved because they admitted they are only working to the architects drawing but he is a skateboarder and appreciates it should be done right,so he and the rest of the guys working on it are happy to change anything. The basic layout is fine.No start hill as yet but they are happy for me to go back with plans i would like done and change the jumps..(the triples are huge and unjumpable) but there is still a few decent jumps. i plan to go back tomorrow with pictures of track layouts/design etc. i want to try and get this to competition standard.Any input is welcome guys.  :daumenhoch: I'm a beginner at this also.

Ian

The doubles look perfect - nicely proportioned.......but the triples; what the fork?!?

Hopefully the JCB can smooth them out so the bairns (& the elderly) can roll them.  Is it near the old site and is it a 'W' or a 'U in a U' layout?

Also u got the XLP yet?
Title: Re: Scottish Oldschool Summer 2009 Series
Post by: archboi on June 24, 2009, 03:04 PM
Hi Brett

Yea its kind of like LEEDS track layout but the other direction so its a u inside a u.Going to get them to take away the first of the triple which will make a nice set of doubles and they are going to put a rythym section on the last straight..Again something like the leeds track maybe. But trying to think things up.I can go back with a plan tomorrow....its being built that quickly so no time to lose. I am off on holiday on Tuesday so need to get ideas to them now..

The XLP is here. Kuwahero bringing it to my house tonight for me.Good lad :daumenhoch:

I'm up for it, been as a cant ride at the minute - Track design by committee!!

Gogo could offer a bit of guidance on proportions, been as he spends more time diggin trails than ridin (his bike)

This is a rare opportunity  NOT TO BE MISSED!! (once in a lifetime even) to get a first class track within an hours drive of most.

What about Sunday afternoon or Monday nite?

let me know what night, i should be able to take a stote up too...
what time we talking about though? remember its bright till late on so doesnt need to be right after work as i never finish on the nose.
i can also take some bodies up if we all wanted to jump into one car at harthill services or wherever?

my vans and shorts arrived today, my pedals and freewheels should be here tomorow so i am hoping to get over to the track early as possible tomorrow night. if weathers iffy im unsure though... but i really need all the time on my bike i can. 4 races, 4 times i slipped my pedals, broken pride and flat testcles. you can tell im in it for the fun factor eh?  :-[

whilst im here... im pure crap with names. but good with faces... but on here your names arent right and no pictures so i havent a clue who im chatting to on here unless i know you well from the old race scene.  can we have an online out'ing of all?  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Tony your first bike was a red and white burner...   :)

name :- Rab-Lambie
First bike:- gold ultra burner
last bike:- Kuwahara laserlite
NS bike:- Redline Proline Pro
OS gearing run :- 44 -17 or 18
started racing around :- 1981
finished racing around :- 1987-88

Best Rankings:-
National Rank :- 7th (missed two meetings with broke ankle)
Regional Rank :- 4th

fav moment:-
comentated jumping session with just me and 4 UK racing Pro's... one being Andy Ruffell
at Cumbernauld UK Champions of Champions, thats was around 1986 i think.

first track raced :- Falkirk
fav track :- nairn
worst track :- Glasgow North, Hawick

daftest jump:-
jumped 22 people lying side by side with 3 beer gegs at the end. the ramp
was a bedroom door sitting on more beer gegs. the runway was through woods, then crossed a busy main road into
more woods then take off! bike at the time was a gold ultra burner with no breaks or coaster, v-bars and no grips. (old school at its best)

worst fall:-
livingston skate park:- just arrived for first time, pissing of rain. pedaled into park full pelt from one end to other.
breaks didnt work due to rain and shot out a small opening on the wall at top end of park falling about 20ft onto rocks.
woke up about ten minutes later with a crowd round me. apparently my last words on shooting out of the park at speed were "mummy"  :D

well im just back from the track tonight... nearly 10pm when i left... was a sunny clear night but had a head on wind on first straight and third straight so limited doing much so those there began a wee jumping session. had a right good laugh though. other than my eyes were running like a burn due to hay fever and the wind.
managed to jump all the jumps on the last straight in one go now without pedaling after the first doubles. so i was kinda pleased at that only being back in it after a few weeks. just got the tripples to do but i recon if i dont have a wind head on ill get there soon. spent rest of time just chatting and trying to take the track jumps much faster.
had the new vans on and oddessey black widow pedals on tonight and my feet are sticking like glue. down side of them is the edge of pedal cage is pretty big and can be mistaken for the flat section for a second or two. but still so much better. just got my freewheel to change now and im hopefully cooking with gas, just need to find a compfortable technique to take the jumps at speed without jumping the buggers.  :D

have to mention Steve here... (the guy that drives the bmw with his son that rides white bike) well there was 4 of us getting a wee jumping session going as i said. been at it most the night. steve was doing really well jumping the doubles etc and getting his confidence back and quickly at that too...
we decided to call it a night but did a couple of jumps before going. i went first then steve right behind me... what a bloody BANG! not sure how but he clipped his front wheel on the second double and landed on his head, shoulder and arm right on the tarmac. normally theres a slide, a scuffing motion noise with a crash but he hit the ground like a bag of tatties and just stopped dead. i mean major pain here lads! i crapped it and i was just turning to him coming to meet me at the time.
when he lifted his head he was out it, staring into space looking right through me... white as a ghost.
we had to give him a hand into his car with the bikes but he think he has broke his shoulder. all the impact was on his head and shoulder...
lucky as hell to have full length arm protection, fullface helmet and gloves. that said he gouged the pastic in the arm protection and still managed to cut the hell out his elbow and arm. hes going to be one sore guy tomorrow.

hope your OK mate, a pure dullion of a tumble... nightmare after doing so good too!

SORRY for the change of subject there guys.,,, Please keep the background info replies going as its really interesting to read about who and what was acheived etc.

Am absolutely gutted to hear about Steve falling - the tar is fkucin hard to land on - particularly as he's just come back after another bad injury..............where have I heard that one before?!  Hope it's not as serious as it sounds.

Rab don't let the triples get the better of you - some things weren't designed to be jumped on some tracks; if u look at them the 2nd & 3rd lips are higher than the first and there isn't enough space to get a pedal in between the doubles and them; without losing your composure!  Leave them until we get the JCB in to make the first lip way bigger for the Scottish Open in Sept?

Ian when u going to Muss for a recce - Sun or Mon night? - you're probably already training there on the XLP!!!!!

Ah, finally I'm back on the net.  Had to get a new cable put in here.

Anyhow, Steve, man I'm sorry to hear that!  I hope you're alright?  Has anyone heard from him?

Muscle beach track looks like it's going to be a belter, how come we've never heard about this until now?  It's brilliant that there's another track available to use.  Scott D - you keep saying you know someone in at Glasgow Council, it's time to get in touch with them and show them what's happening over on the East coast.

We'll be heading over to Clydebank tomorrow afternoon - is anyone else going to be there?

From the photos it looks like we're gonna have some jumps to practice on in Scotland - at last!!  We just need some wall of death berms to link the straights

I'll be through on Thurs as long as it's not pishin down.  Finally got my NS ride together at about 1030 last night and went for a blat in the dark at Rug Track - managed 2 laps b4 the bevvied neds were getting a bit too interested....it was hilarious tho hearing the patter from one of the burds to her man- 'naw yur no gettin me up the duff - beet it ya durty bsaturd'....'aw cum on.  I was pissin my self on the way home.

I didn't manage thru to Muss, but Ian reckons it'll be complete in 2 weeks - he's trying to get the council to up the spec from a 'fun track' to a race spec one, but they're working to a limited budget - a bit short-sighted!  Jumps sound good tho - big dubs, step-down, rythym section..... Ian was working with the team building it to re-shape the jumps & lips to put something together we can race on.

was there yesterday with Ian and it is starting ot take shape. we made some more changes yesterday which they have started on. check the mussleburgh thread for a link to Fraser Eadie's website for pics he took yesterday.

kevin rettie, paulo and myself are meeting there tomoroow at 1pm to see what more they have done and give further guidance. I am taking my cruiser to test it out for rideability.

I will also be taking my laptop to show them pics of peterborough, preston, etc so they can better understand the types of jumps

i can't remember the exact spec of your redline rab, but i'm pretty sure a lot of the parts wouldn't be compatible with a o/s f+f.

i.e - b.b., brakes, headset, stem, seatpost, seatclamp

Hi Rab

Check out the musselburgh track thread, theres a link attached to some pictures in it somewhere:

http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php'topic=68728.0;topicseen

The location of the track is further away from the race course than it was bitb with a different layout. Looking good though.

Correct Rab the wind did get up quite a bit on the old track and it blew the dust off the pans, but it looks like the trees have grown a fair bit since then which might provide a wee bit more protection from the wind........can't be any worse than C-bank!

Can't believe you've almost destroyed your Redline - you've only been to the track about 5 times on it; mind you not many OS'ers are trying to pull 360's these days!! ya nutter!!!!

Post by: Rab-Lambie on July 03, 2009, 11:02 PM
Your right bret... even though you had clip pedals and the bike was well too oversized for me the length did feel comfortable and bike rode very smooth. even though i was really only pedaling over the track slow i really liked it.
I was speaking to tony yesterday so i might go ahead and buy the kuwahara 09 laserlite pro and tony can use the redline for kicking about on at track meets. thing is though... some mentioned the laserlite is not any longer than my redline proline pro? this being the case... maybe just getting a ONE would be the route to take? can anyone advise?
i really like the ONE's very nifty looking bikes...  so maybe a bonus...

have to mention, as you know i bought all the 661 body armour kit etc absolutely top notch stuff, well worth the money. i shagged myself in a few falls from my bike doing a few cough cough, sneeze, ahem ahem 360's over the table topon thrusday and after each fall, i swear i felt nothing at all... got up dustied down and away i went. (not sure if not hurting myself after a fall is a good thing now though :uglystupid2:)  ;D
anyway, i know loads of you guys have various bikes and many of them toppers... but invest in the gear too. too many folk around the track with war wonds and armour bought only after the event. now thats my H&S lecture over...

like a fud... and not even on my bike, ive knocked my knee out and i cannie bend the bloody thing... always happens at a weekend when your wanting to go to the dancing in the city and find some mary make-up for a wee nose dive into her doubles.  :D

and davie.... i think me and colin take joint first at the HOB-NOB eating contest mate... there were vicious rumours you were chating mate. sorry...
but kenny scullions decision is final. "yer a cheat big man..... "

tell him kenny...  tell him it wis your decision mate.  :coolsmiley:

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

dont worry, its farrero rouchet next week... spelling?  ???

You tell him gogo, next it'll be shave legs and lycra!  >:D  Rab, I can get the rather spiffing Redline Flight Pro XL and XXL frames in red/white for a very nice price if you're just after a bigger frame.  Remember that I can still get the black/gold PK Ripper looptails at a great price too if you're after another complete bike.  I could have got you a Redline Proline Pro XL in black for a silly price too.  I'll see you at the track before you go spending cash elsewhere.

Hurry Up and Buy!  Thank you Please!

Ok Bret honestly do you feel a big difference with the Clips in terms of speed etc, I am going to invest in some new pedals but i have always ignored the clip idea, but i guess I could use all the help I can get.

An accident waiting to happen....that's my take on the clips, but seen as I keep losing my triple cage bear traps, at least they keep my feet on the pedals!

Don't know if it's any quicker or not, just know my feet aren't gonna fly off on the second straight - then again that might be the 185 flights on my Holmes?

We'll soon find out when the next race will be a replay of Nairn 1988 when we all jumped ship from 16+ to superclass - NS is gonna have 3 full motos!!

wasn't the saturday supposed to be the day when dylan clayton was doing his second training session. or should I say first as he didn't turn up last time.

Title: Re: Scottish Oldschool Summer 2009 Series

No, Scottish Cycling did the last RSR on a Saturday, but they've decided to do the next one on a Sunday  >:(  Not very helpful, and it means we have to move our race to the Saturday.  It'll be even more annoying if we've had to move our race date for 7 people to turn up at the RSR like last time.  No mention of Dylan Clayton at all this time, so don't hold your breath.

So, to clarify, the next race is on SATURDAY 25th JULY

The rest of the summer calendar looks like this:

R6: SUNDAY 2nd August
R7: SUNDAY 9th August
R8: SUNDAY 30th August
Scottish Open Championships: SAT 5th SEPT - Gate Practice (£2 per rider) 1-3pm, SUNDAY 6th SEPTEMBER - RACING!!!

Post by: Rab-Lambie on July 05, 2009, 01:28 AM
Mark as you will know mate... im a complete newbie back on the scene mate so my views and opinions on some things might be a bit out... but... first big problem i had was pedal slipping. first race meet (see videos on youtube) 4 out of 4 races i slipped my pedals and almost split my peas on impact each time.  :P
i bought a new pair of vans and switched to Oddessey black widow bear trap style pedals. i can honestly say the combination of both are the bizz! i looked at buying hutch bear traps but at £200 it was a bit of gamble if i didnt like them. anyway, love the oddessey now and i have had a look/tried a few since at the track. kenny had some bear traps, davie had the hutch NS traps etc and i honestly think the oddessey black widows are better. (no disresect guys  :D) and only cost £45...

Kenny, ill have a think about that mate, you could be right in just going for the longer redline frame or even the complete redline bike again maybe the way to go. i keep reverting to the kuwahara laser lite because thats the last bike i used before giving up back in the day. but seeing your own ONE, davies and brets kinda got my liking the idea of one of those.

on different subject...

I know i spoke to some folk at the track the other night. I'll be there next thursday night too and i wanted to bring along everyones "names stickers for their bikes or helmets" but what i need is a list of everyones "full names" and the spelling. so i need you to reply here with the name you want on your frame?
the text will be in white. if you really dont think white will be right for your bike tell me a colour and ill get it done in that colour for you, but easiest all round in white.

the text will be your name... full name or initial and full name. i.e.
Bret Archibald or B. Archibald all sets comes as a PAIR so if you need a set for your helmet also. please state.

the text will be bold and capitals and lower case. capitals .4inch high.

so please just reply here with the name you want for your bike and or helmet as it should read and ill be at the track thursday for you to collect.
i can leave them with anyone you wish if you cant make it.

Plese note, These are free of charge to all Titan BMX members only.

So if you want these graphics/stickers for your bike/helmet please reply asap

cheers....

That's excellent Rab, nice one.

Ours are:

Niall Craig
Louie Craig
Reece Craig
Megan Craig

The kids will be pretty chuffed!

Went over to the track today, weather was lovely.  Me and Kenny H set up the speakers and amp etc over in the middle between the 2nd and 3rd straight - worked really well.  Got Kenny to put on the theme tune from Smokey and the Bandit - lol - Brilliant!

Mark M got his new ONE sorted out - very nice bike indeed.  The gate is running perfectly now, the random start is really growing on me.  The kids are really getting better every week and I've got a bunch of good photos.  Must get them up...

We'll be over again on Thursday, hopefully the weather will be good...

Rab, speak to Kenny H and get a bike through the club, was having a natter with him and can get his hands on some pretty nice stuff.

Who's riding what at the next race anyway - I've realised my body probably won't hold up to racing more than one bike at 1 race & having a brake that lets u manual without fear of flippin-out is a bonus!!

Me & the boys would like:

Roan
Leon
Brett

For our frames, white would be great, cheers bud.

Stevo, nice one! - looking forward to using the new site.

The only alternative to running a race on Saturday 25th July is to just cancel it and make one of the rounds in August a double header, possibly the last round?  And in future no outside agencies will be allowed to use out track on a Sunday  :knuppel2:

Cancelling our race on 25th would have course allow us to go on another road trip to the next round of the North Regionals at Manchester  :)  Just a thought......

Post by: kevin rettie on July 06, 2009, 10:41 PM
Thought I should update my file from bitd... read 'em and weep Kenny  :LolLolLolLol:

name : Kevin Rettie
First bike:- Team Murray (the one with the heavy as fook mags)
last bike:- Progressed onto a Mongoose Californian then finally my Harry Leary Turbo (which i still have)
NS bike:- I am resisting keeping up with the Joneses..... Would love a NS GHP (always wanted on bitd)
OS gearing run :- 45/16, I could never spin 42s and 43s like the Steve Fraser
started racing around :- 1984
finished racing around :- 1987(ish) Sad that I can't even remember making the decision to stop or what race was my last!

Best Rankings:-
National Rank : No 3 in 14 y/o in 1985, No 1 in 15 y/o in 1986, No 1 in 16 y/o in 1987.  :4_17_5:
Regional Rank : Similar to national ranking except one year where I slipped to 3rd  :2gunsfiring_v1: not happy!

fav moment(s):-
Racing all over the Scotland and England. Racing the Worlds in Slough and Orlando. Travelling to Nationals in the North of england with Steve and Mike Fraser in their bashed up Sherpa Van in 1987 (?). Getting blootered the night before travelling to Englandshire with the Fasers in their bashed up Sherpa van.... Racing the Champion of Champions at Tamworth I think in '86, getting a great gate behind Dean Idiols thinking 'this is it' and falling at the second Berm only to come in last and missing out on a nice big trophy:knuppel2:. Sessioning the camels and triples at Nairn on a race day in practice, in fact everything about racing at Nairn. Loads of great memories and loads of good friends made - hope they all turn up on a website or to Clydebank soon! The feeling of jumping a set of doubles - its the same now as it was back then, you can't beat that feeling  :)

first track raced :- Granton on Spey
fav track :- Nairn, Tamworth and quite liked Musselburgh
worst track :- Blairgowrie

just bought masel some body armour 661 mainly for the 1st weekend at Fortwilliam but think I'll start using it down a C-bank guys especially if Rabs next to me on a jump....

Rab have you looked at backflips yet?????

;D ;D ;D missed that steven...  dont worry mate, jumping next to me is safe, im a dead cert to go down forst so landing on me cushions the blow!
who needs body armour when you have me to land on?  :D

not sure the exact 661 armour you got but mine is all 661 too and its really good... was messing about on thursday and took 3 daft falls. one left me having sex with my bike at the bottom of the table top. honestly say i never felt a thing! (maybe that was due to the lube on my arse) even though i did scuff the hell out the armour at the elbows, not a scratch on me.

now that said, and this is classic me... in the whole history of biking i never broke a bone. yet broke my foot and ankle in the daftest of wee topples in school and at work. no handers no leggers at 100mph and not a scratch and i go break my ankle in a high heel... (only at the weekend lads!) ::)
anyway... my knee often pops out at the gym or out and about... i dont feel it ridng just walking. but ive been crippled all week. knee in brace as i type. better be fixed for thursday or am gonna have to chop the fecker off and get on with it!  :) seriosuly doing my head in as i need as much practice as i can get or ill never make the olympics...  ??? ahem... i mean the brits!  :'( ok... maybe the B-Final in at clyde bank!  :coolsmiley:

ok here is the final names list n no articular order. please check spelling as they go in as shown.
the colour is stated next to each.
there will be 4 of each at .5 inch high in bold text. (2 for frame & 2 for helmet, each side)

gogo cannie see your name mate... i thought it was gordon somtheing?
mark ive put red for you but if no use let me know mate.. same goes for rest. cannie change them after thursday morning folks so please let me know a.s.a.p.
if your names not down just reply here and ill add it

here's my BITD got 10mins to spare;

first race; open at Grantown on Spey borrowed bro's Huffy 84' then bought Pete Scotts nickel plated Goose the following week,  which is now buried in a garden in Forres

1985 won my first scottish national at Irvine on a Skyway TA ended 4th that year in scotland 15's

1986 got a JMC Daryl Young won a few that year came 1st in Scotland 16's and made the  World Slough quarters to be taken out by Darren wood on 3rd turn.

1987 got my zeronine proxl (which I still race) went to the world masters in France with Ian Archibald, Gary Macrae and a young Mr Hoy got taken out on last berm in the semi's lyin 3rd by Hoogedoorn (7ft dutch feker). Indoor track on carpet amazingoh and bringing Paris Charles de Gauld airport to a standstill while they defused my suitcase long story left it unattended. Came 2nd in Scottish that year crashing at Livi not good. Europeens where memorable as I recall never did make Amsterdam met some birds the night before blah blah blah.

1988 superclass bit of a blur now but memory says I won a few that year regaining a no1 racing my zeronine proxl in that pink purple Revcore outfit. Think it was the trips to Englandshire at weekends with dads old blue sherpa (Rettie's, Dollier, Beefy, Geordie, Kev Dick, Mike, Graham Campbell, Bud Ralph, Sandy "wobble" and more) memorable road trips REDCAR who got lost on Saturday night? Whitehaven the 4 storey house we took over, Tamworth great track Kev but Redcar felt better, Wigan for the doubles oh so many doubles, Dollier no holding his drink and pukin out the back doors at 4am on the A9 traveling south, Chesterfield where everyone bought bodyarmour, Studying for o grades and highers in the van on the way down and on the way back, Derbyand all the B&B's me mum booked and looked after us  :LolLolLolLol:

1989 like Kev i gave up that year the fun had gone fed up with adult politics and thought I better get a job...

Gearing in the day was 42/16  43/16 45/17 depending on the track but mainly 42/16 now running 42/14

Favourite tracks
Nairn - hometown lived it breathed it night racing was fun pitch dark
Wigan - doubles everywhere and big
Redcar - fast track
Chesterfield - for speed

favourite jump
Wigan - second straight 2 large doubles when you nailed them they were sweet and fast

Favourite moment
sitting on the gate at the world masters in south of france january 87 sunny and back home had snow.

Funniest moment
any time we all piled in to the blue van to go south was carnage thank god "you tube" wasn't round then  :LolLolLolLol:

Worst track
there were none you just looked forward to ridin something someone else built each weekend.

Now just enjoying reliving my youth each sunday when I can and enjoying ma boy tryin to do the same. Also the banter and the old faces the crack is there as it was in 84 when I went to Grantown that day. Keep the thing alive guys and keep it fun.... :4_17_5:

Results for R5 of the Summer Series.  A bit of a low turnout in Oldschool.  Ian was riding 17+ on his new Ripper XLP as well as Cruiser on his old Elf, David Lindsay had defected to the North Series  :knuppel2: , Colin was working, Paul had a 'do', Scott was having a chillout day and did commentating, and Mike was just out hospital so him and Steven were also absent.  Despite this there were more new faces in all the other classes so we had a really good turnout.  The track may have been a bit damp to start with but it didn't slow down the racing which was pretty damn hot.  Some tough racing with everyone really upping their game, which is great to see.  Hopefully we'll see some videos soon (Stevo???  :) )

Oldschool
1.  Brett Archibald      50pts
2.  Kenny Scullion      47pts
