So after completing my Curtis recently I have now completed another one of the BMX's I owned or raced.
This time it is a replica of the very 1st BMX I owned.... a Scorpion TX. I was bought this bike when I lived in North America in 1981, I love this bike so much, it reminds me of being really young and for some reason my brain tells me that summer back then was just one long sunny day.
I have to thank a couple of people without whom this bike would never have been built. QuadPaul for letting me have the frame, DT1969 (Dave) for the forks, MartyC for giving me the heads up on the frame and inspiration after seeing his Scorpion, Del for the amazing decals and Steve for the padset. Thanks a lot guys, I hope that you like the bike.
Fook me that bit sounded like an Oscar winners speech.
Here are the piccies.

Fantastic build. :4_17_5: :4_17_5: :4_17_5: :4_17_5: :4_17_5: :4_17_5: :4_17_5: :4_17_5: :4_17_5:
I love seeing builds that are not as well respected in the old skool scene. We can all do a ripper, haro or a skyway but this is special as alot of work has gone into it in all departments.
Love that plate!! :4_17_5:

Thats fantastic Stidds.... :daumenhoch:
Love to see a bike that is built for this reason... 8) its all about nostalgia and the resurrection of emotions not felt since the early 80's... :smitten:
Its the same ethos that the Burner collectors adopt... they may not have been the best bikes in the world but if you had one at the time you loved it.
Great Build... :4_17_5: :4_17_5:

Exactly right Dave, it just evokes so many great memories and emotions. I smile everytime I look at the bike, same with my Yamaha BYZ, not the greatest bike ever but it was my 2nd bike ever and I remember spending all day riding it.

I remember putting my first Burner together (an Extra Burner) about 5 years ago and getting the same 'childish buzz' as I did when my Dad suprised me in the Summer of 1983.
:daumenhoch: bid up' for your hard work and passion...

Excellent sean :daumenhoch:
-
That's it, I'm not looking at anymore of your builds; they are just too fooking nice :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
Great build Sean, looks absolutely fantastic :daumenhoch:
-
Nice build Sean - Just spotted it up on vintage so I knew it would be up on here somewhere :LolLolLolLol:
....are they the grips you got off me then :coolsmiley:
Looks ace - quick question - I've got a couple of those stems knocking round in need of a clean up - I've seen 'em on a few builds, the 2 I've got both came on survivor goose resto projects i picked up but the only goose i remember seeing these on was the mity goose. Do you know anything about them ? They look a bit like the win kusuki slant stem on Elliot's KZ1 in E.T. - are they win kusuki but a non slant variant ? ???
Soz for the hijack :-[
Top build mate :daumenhoch:

No worries mate - don't bother yourself mate - It was just a general idea as i'd never spotted that on mine before but i haven't inspected them - I just whipped them off and stuck 'em in a box of bits in the attic - I'll take a look at mine over the weekend ;)
Are you gonna stick this in BOTM with the curtis or is 2 builds against the rules :LolLolLolLol:

Quality Sean !

Just about spot on there mate. Del's Peregrine is another fine example of that, one of my favourite bikes from the last few years.
Top build Stidds
-
Top job on that...
"memories bikes" are why we're all here... nevermind the brand, that's just a RAD trip in time :daumenhoch:
-
WOW! Loving the real old stuff :smitten:
-
1st class build sean, especially considering what this looked like before :daumenhoch: Really glad to see it brought back to life to be enjoyed again rather than just sitting in the loft gathering dust.
Spot on mate and you can't beat a memories build :4_17_5:
Any excuse for a scorpion pic :LolLolLolLol: but a bit like the zx300 I've built to replace the zx200 I had stolen in 1994.

Awesome build Sean....lovely.
Meticus, I've had a discussion a few times about the Scorpions....when I was a kid, I remember the Scorpion and the sister bike called a Sentinel Exploder... but you called them Scorpion Exploder...weird.

I think it was called a Sentinel Exploder not sure if made by Scorpion or by Sentinel under license, but here's the review and an advert that makes reference to both Sentinel and Scorpion...

:) DINGO :)
-
Marty, look at that advert you posted. 'imported by biquip, Yorktown Industrial Estate, Camberley'. Do you remember me saying that a few people had them where I was and that they had been nicked from the warehouse? I lived in Blackwater, 2 minutes down the road from Camberley. I knew I wasn't mad!

....enjoy your dream :daumenhoch:
I can understand what you are saying about summer all day...It doesn't matter what decade we rode...or what we rode. (I was pre BMX so I rode whatever there was). I was out all day cycling, and every day was an adventure...down by the river, in the park, over some rough ground...days seemed to last forever.
Life as an adult sucks.
Ray.
