Post by: Jt on April 10, 2009, 09:37 AM
someone else would need to clarify this, but those decals look later 80's early 90's?

the frameset looks early 80's to me?

as an official non-expert in GT, I'd say the Pro Series were introduced in 86...   if my memory serves me right  ;)
Title: Re: My new toy
Post by: thebigdog on April 10, 2009, 09:59 AM
The frame is an 84  (Serial 3840310). Have looked at loads of bikes to try and date the deacls and I can't find any the same.

I thought they were 87ish but they look nothing like them, Have been through the whole lot on BMXmuseum and cant find anything the same.

They are like 84 Performer decals but obviously say "Pro Series"

anyone any ideas?

Matt them decals are 85 mate, check out the adverts for it in tech and resto 85, if its a late 84 i think they could be correct, Handsome Pete may be able to offer more on this.  :daumenhoch:

...that is nice BigDog - I had  a chrome one BITD like yours, then a blue one with those decals. I think the '85 model had the three holes in the dropout & the '86 four.
Until I find one for a project I'll have to be happy with this:

They are only re-issue ones. Took the Ukais and the Comp III's off as I did not want to screw them up.

Me and Bigfrawg had big plans but it pi$$ed it down so we went to the pub  :)

Some nice bikes chaps and props to ya for riding it...  :daumenhoch:

I've put together a GT for the os racing, i bought it as an 84 Pro, its got no holes in the rear dropouts and no hole in the forks for a front brake

Serial numbers on the inside of the rear right dropout, theres a 4 thats seperate from the rest 131978 (the 9 might be an 8 hard to tell)

Is it an 84?... im confused.com...  :crazy2:

hard to tell from the pic but it looks to have the slanted end toptube, so it would atleast be a 84 if my memory is right :( :daumenhoch:

Toptube and downtube look the same size to me, if they're differant it aint obvious, i'll wait while it picks up a few battle scars then have a scratch at the serial number and see if i can make it out better

Just took some pics, photofukets on a go slow...  ::)

It looks like an early frame to me, but if I understand right very early frames had no frame number at all ??

I'd hazzard a guess at it being a " 8 " in the frame number making it an 81 ????....but what the hell do i know  :crazy2:  ;D....

..... see what the experts say, as Im just going of my cronky memory  :D
