Title: PICS REQ'D - World Championships 1985 - Whistler, Canada.
Post by: beard1973 on April 17, 2009, 11:02 AM: Does anyone have any pics or magazine scans of the World Championships in 1985 (Whistler, Canada).

In particular of Craig Schofield who was 20" Super Class World Champion that year....

If it helps the race was covered in December 85' issues of the BMX mags that year... can anyone help?

Post by: thecrooch on April 17, 2009, 11:06 AM: I seem to remember the articles (not that i have any old mags) as the course was built on the side of the mountain with very basic plastic webbing to stop riders plummeting down if they came off the course.

Would be really interested in seeing some scans if you have any luck.

You going for a whole "World Cup Winning" Rebuild then?? Cant wait to see it - i grew up in the same town as Craig - he was like the local BMX God as far as we were concerned.

Need the pics so we can confirm the EXACT spec and decals.

I got a feeling it's going to be down to people who were there and took photos for their own use,hoping they surface... Surely the Schofield family have some they could make available in the name of documenting BMX history...

I always thought Craig never really got the credit he deserved. Although Ruffell became the "Face of Raleigh" towards the end, Schoffy had been the loyal workhorse since 1982 for the marque....

Hope you manage to get some images Dave and maybe it will be Ok to publish some of Darrens old photos from the early days too.

Funny Footnote: Check out the Weetabix Program from the Slough Worlds, where the Raleigh Team Advert has everyones face (except Craigs) primitively photoshopped out blank.... ;D (got it somewhere here..)

I'll be speaking Craig later so I will put in a request for some 'schofield' family photo... :D :D

And I am sure Darren won't mind me posting up some the pics he has sent me...

remember the issue well, was one of my faves at the time...the report of the worlds is pages long and loads happened...bear on track...kid going through the fencing and a 14 ft drop....

anyway..here's the pic. Loads of pics but only one of Craig on his bike..not brilliant...

I have conflicting info on what colour brakeset Craig was running... Rear is deffo WHITE... but front could be either WHITE, SILVER or BLUE??????

And his headset is a real weird one.... ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

Still trying confirm brake colour... as he ran black/white and silver MX1000 and I have TWO 'rough' Worlds pics already that seem to contridict each other. :-\
