Title: So Brian Blyther invented the tailwhip.....
Post by: WizardWeb on April 18, 2009, 02:11 PM
But did he ever do a tailwhip air? I've never seen a pic of him doing them.... or no-handers for that matter.... ???

I don't know about a tailwhip air, Joe Johnson is credited with taking them to vert I think, but I'm sure I've seen pics of Blyther doing no handers, & I can remember reading in an early action bike that He over rotated a 540 & landed a 720, the first?

I know Joe Johnson did the first vert ones but it seems odd to me that Blyther never did them. I've seen footage of his 720, that's cool. I think it's in the extras bit of the Aggroman/head first dvd.

brian did invent the flatland tailwhip (or tailspin as it was called then) and also the draino around 86- another flatland move, not to be confused with the drano air that john parker does.
did blyther invent the superchicken air, the blyther air, the pop-out to fiola hops to drop in, and the kickturn with half  candybar decade to quickchange roll out??

I think Domingues was the first person to do one in the air, but its was a flyout jump. Having said that, it was a flyout, out of the Uplands combi pool with 4ft of vert and pool coping, and he did it in a big aly-oop, almost 180 flyout!

I can remember that now as well, was it in an old mag, bmx plus or something?

JJ invented the TW AIR. That other dude invented no-handers at Upland. Forget the name. Think his name started with a T. Remember seeing his pic in Freestylim' and thinking, "(It's ON!)"

Jeff Carroll did the first no handerss at upland. I remember it from BMX Plus ! (that was the only mag I could get consistantly back then)

But it's gotten away from my original question  :LolLolLolLol: Has Blyther ever done a tailwhip air?

I'm good, dude!
Everyone around me is fallin' apart though - but nothin' serious. Dad's not well in hospital - leaving to visit him now - and Aileens recovering from bust achilles!

I'm pretty sure I was the first English rider to learn tailwhip airs.
(Much respect to Mr. Atkins though... top rider!)
The only other riders that where doing them on vert at the time were Joe and I think Gary Pollack.
That was the summer of '89.

Yeah, Blyther invented the flatland verion then known as "tailspin" in the UK and "framewhip" in the US--later known as tailwhip-- a mix of the 2.
