they are stamped
-
cool jai give me a shout if you can get them set needed here :)
-
Makes sense that they are stamped. No reason why they would reissue them withour stamps really, might as well shout that the are SE.
I could hear the sigh of relief from here.

Are they cromo or cast iron ping pong crap?

Oh ya bitch :daumenhoch:
-
They are Cromo, very nice too. But why, oh why did they do them.
It's another sad day for OS.
But an awesome day for affordable builds!!
So I suppose on balance all is good in the world.
Oh, and we'll be stocking them in the RADBMX Shop once they are in.
:daumenhoch:
-
they will be here early October :daumenhoch:
-
how much ?

Why is that dave? How is it a bad thing?
I have been thinking about this kind of thing a bit lately, what with S&M making a replica of an old frame and forks. Im still not sure about remaking an old frame, but making quality 1" threaded forks that go well on an old 1" bike is a nice idea, isnt it?
(this sounds like a whole new thread subject now)
-
its only bad news if your a profiteer.
old school is old school, repop is repop....

i think you've about summed it up there John.......although with the crap exchange rate, when they do come over they'll be no cheaper than the old ones will they?
they have been stamped so no way of trying to flog em off as OS ones. Good on em i say :daumenhoch:
-
I think this is great - affordable quality 1" threaded forks that are clearly not the old 80's ones - well done SE!
-
there is no need for these, other than for SE to rip a bit of money out the old school scene...
hey ho..good work if you can get it.
-
Although the hardcore collectors and those in the know will be able to tell the difference between original parts and all these re-pops that companies like Hutch and SE keep bringing out, I think :10_2_12: will happen at some point when shady people start ripping off less initiated collectors/old schoolers selling this stuff as genuine old school at inflated prices.
Like JT says, there's really no reason for Hutch and SE to be bringing this stuff out other than to make money as 1" threaded forks aren't really a valid product these days (though I suppose there's a market for people who want to finish a build and can't wait/don't wait to pay for the real McCoy).
On one hand you can say fair play for making as much money out of their rich heritage. On the other hand you could say, maybe they should put more effort in making their new school products better instead of living off past glories.

Sadly, I think that's happening already. Somebody posted an eBay link yesterday, showing someone trying to sell a set of JDBs repro pedals as Old School. ::)
-
Alex - as Mike says it could be considered bad as people try to pass them off as originals and the whole OS scene gets a bad name.
You don't have to be a profiteer to see how that could damage the hobby. But yes, it is worrying from one point of view as it could potentially devalue my collection...but then again twin-pinch flights and the profile retro cranks haven't damaged the value of the originals. So, I suppose that's bollacks anyway. As long as they are clearly marked I don't have a problem with them.
I just like OS to be OS, that's all. But repros are okay until you can find what your really after.
But like I also said in my post, on balance it's a good thing as it enables everyone to finish off their builds.
-
I suppose its only like other industries bringing out there "retro" range......money makes the world go around ???
-
I've seen it all before with StarWars repro stuff, some of it's hard to spot.

I agree, more should do the same and make this hobby affordable again
Bru :daumenhoch:
I suppose that depends on what people define the "hobby" to be.
If it's collecting original old school BMX bikes/parts, then the re-pops aren't a good thing.
If it's collecting replica or retro BMX bikes/parts, the re-pops are a good thing.
If it's riding/racing old school BMX bikes, then they're possibly a good thing as the new stuff should be stronger/better made and not cost the earth to replace if they get broken.
-
I agree, repro stuff is only a good thing when it's used for riding. You're not going to win any show and shine with repro stuff :daumenhoch:
-
but if you dont ever enter show and shine cos you think its for freaky wierdo's, then its ok.
i think..
i'll get my cape :D

Guess they're good for bikes being ridden but sad for carpet queens :-\

yeap, i must admit being a bit disappointed @ reading they're doing them again,
hopefully they'll be easy real easy to spot for everyone.

Really cant see what the fuss is all about? Twin pinch flights havent impacted on the original flights, and I dont expect these will on OG LG's. They wouldnt appeal to me in the same way twin pinch dont, well not for 'show bikes' anyway, and im a relative newbie in the hobby.
They would appeal to OS racers, same as the twin pinchers, or for someone who either isnt arsed about 'era correctness' or spending the money on originals. But those people will only be on the periphery of the hobby anyway. I cant see many hardcores on here building a loopy ripper or 80's quad with modern repop LG's.
Its funny how the Hutch pedals have gone down so well, seen a few pairs appear on OS rides (that will probably not all get ridden) whereas these are frowned upon. Exactly the same thing if you ask me.

who cares?
if you don't know and can't tell you have no place paying big money for a set of forks. Repro shite will continue to appear which seems like a funny situation. We nearly linched sander and biagio and a couple of septic's for home made bmx parts, now everybody is at it. How times change eh lads.
-
Knock off landing gear have been kicking about for the last few years, some of you may already have them on your builds. And I'm not talking about the shite ones from years ago.
The Fuji ones? well, we will just have to see how they (Fuji) have designed in the difference. What about the Skyway forks? are they ok?
Redline cranks? come on mate, Redline have never stopped making them, they are neither reproduction or knock off, and any difference is very easy to see... think Porsche 911, products evolve over time ;)
