Title: pad protection modifiction
Post by: reay900tap on April 21, 2009, 04:31 PM
Sunday just gone went for a ride with some the local boys, ended up riding one of our local industrial estates..

got to a nice little set-up, wide path with a curb before it, manule pad to a small set of steps to flat to some more steps, proper little tech set-up..
1st run.. 180 up curb, fakie back to failed attempt at a 1/2 cab down the 1st set of steps...

as I went down I just caught the edge of this wall with my shin, honestly just skimmed it..

looked down at my shin, looked at my buddy... hospital!

anyhow few stitches (+lots and lots of cleaning and injections later) I hobbled out of a+e with instuctions no riding for 10-14 days

'yeah ok  I'm gona do this! honestly I am' I explained to my girlfriend..
why has it got to be so nice outside?!!?

soo, my brain starts ticking to how I can get round this ;)

some 4mm thick aluminium
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/l224/ray900tap/IMG_0134.jpg)
cut a peice ready for a bit of work with my hammer and dollys to get the shape
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/l224/ray900tap/IMG_0135.jpg)
shaped and applied to one a federal knee gasket using double sided sticky tape

2nd knee gasket for extra padding :daumenhoch:

mint, flexible and tuff, jobs a good'un..

for those interested, scroll down to see the pictures of my shin pre a+e, & for those who get easily offended DON'T scroll down, haha

that was the bone, had to ride around a mile back to my car, the wind against the bone was the worst bit about the whole deal!

Impressive injury that dude ,I wonder what the result would have been with a regular shin pad.
It will hurt if you knock it again thats for sure.  :daumenhoch:

the result would have been me being able to still ride the rest of the session..
never liked shin pads, and this is the result! my fault 100% and all that :daumenhoch:

did give the ol shin a good thump to test its affectiveness, perfect.. no pain :daumenhoch:

well, you see.. the thing is...
I'm looking online for some nice shin pads as we speak, but, It'll be the same as the time I did both my knees in, I'll ride pads for a few days, then forget them one day.. ride without them,  & not think about it till something happens a week, month, year later etc..
used to be so good at wearing pads, proud to be see in them, now its just remembering them ::)

i can't see the piccies of your leg at work (maybe for the better) but when i cut my knee in the Alps on the first day....i patched it up and banged pads over it..........3 days later due to the heat under the pad it was a lovely green colour and i was having to put salt on it in the evenings to draw out the puss.

lovely  :-\
