Title: just been for first 20inch pedal in 22 years
Post by: tigerbrown on April 30, 2009, 07:49 PM: Just finished (well99% just need a padset) my first os build and thought I would have a quick ride up to where we used to mess around when we were kids.. Bloody hell I got some funny looks!!

I'm about 6ft which isn't a prob but I'm a big lad these days..

Even one of my best friends from school walked past on other side of the road shaking his head and laughing on the way to the pub

Some people just don't get it which I understand by the way.. My ears are burning as I write

But must admit I was buzzing and can't wait till the weekend for a proper ride

Just thought I would share this with the lads on here..
I ride my mtb quite a bit and think nowt of riding 20 miles but half a mile on me skyway and am fooked :LolLolLolLol:

It sounds like you've had enough practice to race Old School!! :D

I did the same thing and then raced at Bradford.

I fell off at the end of the 1st straight. I just think my body went into shock!! :LolLolLolLol:

If you dont race (cos ya chicken) then at least bring your build and enter it into the Show and Shine and meet the rest of the Monkeys!! :daumenhoch:

As for being knackered after riding a BMX...that's all down to the angles...legs tend to be straighter on an MTB

I'm 6ft and just shy of 17st (no i aint fat :knuppel2: :LolLolLolLol: ) and i'm starting to ride my bikes for the first time since i was 16 (40 in 2 week)

I`m 37 and went dirt falling ( not much jumping done) for the second week running at the trails alongside haydock park ....loved every second ( despite the fear/slams).... i wish i could fly ,way up to the sky , but i can`t ...not like i used to anyhow :'(

Dave are you the one that had a big slam at the trails last week? my lad said a guy on a diamond back i think he said (but the guy was on a haro the week before i understand) had a big off and smashed his face , doing his chin and teeth :( and was saying he was sore :-\

May sound a bit of a cliche, but you live once, so do what you want to do, not what others expect of ya because you're a certain age, it's your life to do as you please, not for others to dictate, so what if ya ride a BMX.

I know it can be difficult if peeps on the street take the piss and can be a real confidence killer, but hey it's only natural cos it's probably unusual to em. If you enjoy it do it, I've been out a number of times now over the last few weeks and it's become second nature (to ride, not for peeps to take the piss ;D )

The only real issue I tend to think about is my height (6ft 2) but hey I can't change that, and I was a tall lad when I was 15/16 anyway and still rode BMX regardless.

I ride new school down the local parks and as a bald 35 yr old I get some funny looks from the hardcore teen riders but to me it don't matter, the only difference between bikes is the wheel size not the age you have to be.

Anyway, the youngsters make me laugh when they tut at you like you are doing something you shouldn't - are they saying that when they hit 25 or thereabouts they are going to hang their pedals up forever? Doubt it, they're the next gen of radsters.

theres quite a few os lads from round our way now...

neils gone camping and there was two local footie games on sky today so it was a poor show

but we will get there in the end

should be more in the coming weeks
