he'd know what's rare for sure.  :daumenhoch:

Id say the parts that are hard to find are:

Prince Albert cranks, all versions
Menstrual stems (the forks aint that hard to get)
C4 bars
Early Slam bars

Also, its not easy to get hold of:

1" threaded Pitchforks (not ditchforks)
1" shafted Redneck stems
Any of the older S&M seats.

i always think that frames with no 990 or canti mounts are hard to come by....

ive been looking for a dark blue haf for ages to.. they did do them but i cant find one anywhere....also i cant find the lowrider style decals anywhere

i had to buy a frame to try to replicate them...i'll be sending art work to del soon but figure i will wait for him to get back on his feet from his break up first.

some good replies, most of the items mentioned do come up now and again, what i wanna know is what is the real rare s&m parts, the kind of parts that you dont see or only ever see one of them like alex's white padset, the piece o pipe seatpost etc....

Ive got a piece of pipe seatpost. Its just a thick bit of tube tho, nothing special.

I have got a late 90s chainring. I think its a 36 t and its got a bolt on half guard.

The John Holmes decals? Is that the ones with the tape measure running down the downtube?  ::)

Its cos of something to do with the heat treating. It means you have to polish them loads before chroming for them to come out well. The chroming wasnt as good as they wanted it so they stopped doing it.

I ordered some XLT cruiser forks and wanted them in chrome, but word from S&M was as Alex is saying.  I had to settle for polished (though not that shiny apparently) and then clearcoated.  If I don't like what they look like I'll probably get em powdered.

chrome parts are not as good as they used to be, im pretty sure  its got something to do with the law being changed on what chemicals can be used and the downside to this is the chrome seems to flake/pit very easily

I knew somebody that had a call girl, seemed very short for a dirt jumping frame.

How about "Sabbath Pitchforks" like a normal pitch but with more dropout area for bigger pegs? Seen them in a magazine & that's it.

heres the decals im on about. a few of the lads in the states refer to them as lowrider decals. i own the non platform dirt bike and am using it as a refferance to make decals for my chrome platform db.

darkersomeday has sold me the bebe la blah blah decal so i just got to get art together from the others and let del work the majic. the headtube decal is missing but lucky for me harris has a bike with it still in tact and sent me a piccy. (cheers dan) :daumenhoch:

good to see all the frames listed together, does the list include the dirtbike and holmes which have the gusset between the top and downtubes, similar to a standard?

plus there are 2 versions of the blackbike

i remember the lowrider decals now, someone used to have a dirtbike with them on down the park in the 90's

i have those mk2 ditchforks on my holmes build but they will be replaced with pitchforks when i find some/have the money

i thought the classics came after when they took the gusset out and moved the 990 mounts to the seat stays. i think the gusseted one was like a practice int th next gen. testing the water kind of. there was alot of die hard fans of the dirt bike and i think they were trying to see responses to changes .

in order i think it went

original db
revised gusseted
next gen
then back to the classic shape with no gusset and seat stay 990 mounts.

???  im sure the gusset one had a decal that said classic though... :-\
Title: Re: rarest s&m part?
Post by: kev-s on May 08, 2009, 01:13 PM
i thought it went

original dirtbike

1/18th dirtbike

next gen dirtbike

then back to original dirtbike shape with the gusset between the top an down tubes and seatstay mounts and they named it the classic dirtbike

this is what the 18in dirtbike in the link is based on according to winstanleys ??? ???

but then this says its a classic dirtbike

tis indeed the bennett frame,

they've got it down as the "F.K.A.B"  frame,

probs after bennett left, "formerly kris A bennett" maybe??

it might even stand for "fook kris asshole bennett" :LolLolLolLol:

I know what you mean, it's not the best looking frame they did! The frame he did with volume, the flatline or something didn't look that great either.

Really? I remember a bennett frame getting past round about 4/5 people before it found a home when they came out, nobody got on with it, and the kid what did said it rode great compared to his huffy!
Title: Re: rarest s&m part?
Post by: SaMAlex on May 08, 2009, 08:55 PM
tis indeed the bennett frame,

they've got it down as the "F.K.A.B"  frame,

"Formaly Known As Bennett".

My Bennett felt like it was way heavy, had the lazy-lob wish bone, and chainstays that were lower than the wheelnut. I didnt like it at all. My PBR had a better top tube, but it still wasnt very nice. Those to frames drove me to use a challenger for a while. I should have stuck with a normal dirtbike!

(Gogo, surely youd put a Over sized challenger or Dirtbike above a Bennett?)

Think winstanleys had a 18 inch PBR frame aswell. Also sure I read about a SAF Short as F*** with a short TT.
enjoyed this thread, maybe one day will have a S&M bike.

There were some short TT HAFs. Totally the same frame but aimed more at flatland. My Chrome HAF is one of them (although the shop that had it didnt know). Its got an 18" toptube!

well perhaps an o.s. challenger, did they do one?  the menstrual rode ok, but was made of tinfoil.

i think as 'fit for purpose', the bennett seemed the only decent frame they done, decent tt length and angles. dirt bikes lasted me about 6 months each and the pbr and black bike were terrible in my humble opinion. although i cant speak for flatlanders who used sabbath frames.

the rv frames or widowmaker would be ok too, much like the only standard i'd own would be a cruiser or race bike.

mid 90's bikes really bug my arse, too much confusion over weight/angles etc. i fuggin hate mid school.

      hatred? confusion? i dont remember anybody whining about weight back then, and most bikes had good workable angles.
so if you hate mid school so much then whats so much better?

Back to the topic, what about the K-9 D-Zine frames? only 25 were ever made, first S&m frame made, anyone know where those are hiding themselves?

Its the only one I know about.

I dont think Moeller has one. They were sort of the first 25 Mad Dogs, but they made a few changes and renamed them.
That photo is the ONLY photo of one Ive ever seen

Seriously, not sure how rare they were to get back then, but white pad sets show up next to never nowadays.
