Help :LolLolLolLol:
Ok, scenario....... I got hold of a couple of sets of Araya 7X rims. One pair were pretty good but the other pair, well, one of them needs a lot of attention.
So i stripped one rim of its gold anno yesterday with oven pride then a few mins later when the gold had gone i went and rinsed it in a bath of water making sure it was rinsed thoroughly. It turned a whitish colour which obviously required polishing. I ran out of time so slung it on the side. Today i progressed with the other rim, again same way but this one i gave a quick polish to straight away and it came out pretty good by my standards, a very chrome looking Ali rim. I then proceeded to pick up the other rim and polish away only for this one to have lots of blemishes on it. :'( :'( Despite the rim being really smooth it seems marked.
What have i done ??????? I did rinse properly, should i of polished straight away yesterday ???????????
Good rim with a few bits of polish on it, no marks at all. This one was polished straight away after de-annodising and rinsing.

The blemished rim that was left unpolished for 24hrs. Its the darker marks that are the problem, the lighter marks are the good bits.

Andy - give Paul at customcolour a pm - Im sure he will help you out !
Sorry I don't know the answer but I'm sure Paul will sort it :daumenhoch:

Spoke to Paul earlier Nick as he has some DC Tech 3's of mine which he is re-annodising black, he said he could polish them quite easily, that was before i did this though. :-[ :-[
I do have a spare rim if i have knackered it by leaving it over night without polish, the thing that is confusing me though is i did rinse it, if i hadn't of rinsed the oven pride off then fair enough.

I'd still call him Andy :daumenhoch:
-
the blemishes are where tho oven pride has not removed the layer of " annodised " metal
will polish out
or as nick says send it to CC
and get them done silver anno rather than non original polished finnish
-
you must use b&q,s caustic soda in COLD WATER it will deffo take the addo of them rims i personly have done loads my friend . PLEASE DONT BREATH THE FUMES IN .
-

So forgive me if i'm being a little thick here
Are you saying that the rim has not de-anodised properly ????
In slightly better light today. Obviously they require better polishing but i did these by hand rather than any sort of polishing tool.

I would say what neil has for the future but all the anno hasn't gone yet. Trying to polish it off you can end up peeing in the wind as anno is meant to last. They would be back in the bag under a watchfull eye. Rub through the bag in the spots you have missed. It will come good.
The same happened to me with some araya aero's and they worked out fine. :daumenhoch:

Or take them outside, put some decent rubber gloves on and apply the oven pride direct to the areas that need more attention, rubbing in with the gloves - I use the gloves method rather than the bag - feel like i'm in more control that way :)
-
if you get stuck andy pop round and i will give you some help ;)

Cool, cheers for all your help guys. :4_17_5:
I put another coat of Oven pride on tonight, rinsed off and gave it the finger polish with Autosol until the tube ran out.
Worked superbly, they're like chrome now and all those marks have gone. :4_17_5: :4_17_5:
I'm gonna give them another few polishes tomorrow as i need some more Autosol but i'm well chuffed with how it looks now.

:coolsmiley: :daumenhoch: Nice one
-
well done .....top polisher :4_17_5:
-
Yes , good work , annodising changes the metal and whilst the dye has been removed the altered metal hasnt all gone with the oven pride
-
Another polish today then and i'm well chuffed, would be intrigued to see what a polishing tool would do that my fingers cant. :LolLolLolLol:
