Title: BMX Beat - how camp is that?!
Post by: Stodgy on February 20, 2006, 04:44 PM
Well, thanks to my broken foot and Fuzzynod lending me the DVD, I watched BMX Beat 1984 & 1985 over the weekend...couple of things really struck me:

1) Everyone fell off loads (can't really talk I suppose!)
2) How fooking camp it all was!! What were we all thinking with those outfits, routines and colours?!

oh, and

3) How 'lovely' that little Mr. Stupple was showing us the new rollback he invented! Bill - my wife thought you were 'sweet'!  ;)

Nice trip down memory lane though...

Yeah i agree totally, I watched it the other week and thought it all looks so amature  :) even though BITD I had trouble with the easiest of tricks!  >:(

The one thing that stuck out to me was Mason Smith, when he used to turn up at our skate park in Stevenage we used to be star struck and loved to watch him perform his stuff, looking at the DVD i just thought he looked like a little Nerd who I'd probibly give a good Kick in too!  ;)

But then i guess we all did seeing as though our average age was 13?   ???

Yep it does look shit now, but back then we thought we were well cool  :coolsmiley: And your right about the falling off too. :daumenhoch:

Funny thing though, Joe had it on the telly at home when the mother in law was round and said `look its dad` and she thought it was me riding just the other day  :wtf:

Jeff Spicoli wears Vans, dreams about surfing, and smokes a lot of weed. Spokesperson and role model to the early Mtv generation, Jeff Spicoli preaches his gospel from his high school, Ridgemont High.

Up until BMX Beat all Boarder TV had was Dereck Batey and Mr&Mrs. Everything in popular culture was camp in the mid eighties. I went to twisted sister and saxon gigs thinking I had escaped camp. mmm Spandex and make-up - fool..

Hi Billy , it just seemed better being Jeff here in cyber space as he has been a role model of mine for over 20 years. You have to see fast times at ridgmont high . A.P and myself used that film as a blueprint for life for a while but I have snaped out of it now just got to get Andy off the bong lol. ;D ;D
