Well after a year of hunting for correct parts I've finally got her to a stage where I'm pretty chuffed!
She got a brilliant reception at the Burner Bash, unfortunately I cant make MK09...gutted as I wanted to take it down and enter it.
Craig Schofield was at the Burner Bash and he asked me if I had any bikes with me and when I said "Neil Ruffell..." he said "I need to see this!". Well, he only took a pic of the bike and sent it to Andy Ruffell!!! Made my day and made it that bit more special.
Start to finish here she is...there's been a few changes from some of the photos to complete.
The inspiration...Neil Ruffell RIP dude.

Bars re-powdercoated white, not sure if decals are 100% correct. Think they should be smaller purple skyway ones. Grips Mushies till I can find Sharp X1's

NOS Sharp grips and griploks fitted along with Blue donuts which I made myself till i can find some the right size.
Fitted White new Kashi Aero and DC MX clamp (to be polished).
Got a Knight spider which is a good match for the Redline Flight fixed one.
Looking more like the real thing now...(original on right)

Got Shimano DX off of Mingo for "wot their worth", to be resto'd. They were covered in black paint with gold coating underneath which I have removed with Nitromors and started rubbing down. New caps to go on also.
I know the cap is in wrong end before someone says!

One pedal done with 80 grit, taking shape nicely.

Between me and the very uber kind Russ got the brakes pretty much done.
Had to grind off the lever on front one which was pretty goosed anyway, for the Pott's mod.

F&F - NOS Skyway Streetbeat
Bars - Skyway EZ Bars
Seat - Kashimax Aero
Clamp - Dia Compe MX (chrome, orig. polished)
Pedals - Shimano DX (Restored)
Crank - New Redline Flight (Originals Flight 400)
Spider - Knight (Original as above)
Chainwheel - Sugino 44t
Wheels - Skyway Tuff 2 (Original Coaster?)
Stem - Skyway freestyle
Brakes - Dia Compe MX1000, Tech3 , Cables / Tuff Pads
Grips - Sharp X1.11 & Griploks
Chain - Izumi Zebra
Seat Post - Odyssey (Orig. unknown, possibly Renthal?)
Tyres - Panaracer Freestyle (Orig. unknwon, possibly Skyway?)
Pegs - Skyway
Head set - Hatta (Orig. unknown)
The cranks should be Redline Flight 400's, I have opted for new Flights and a Knight Spider which I stripped and polished which together looks really like the 400's I reckon. The originals cost a small fortune now!
Huge thanks to Russ, Gil, Mingo and anyone that helped out!
I hope you guys like, gonna stick it in the monthly comp now. 8)

Was taking a wee trip down memory lane there, couldn't see these pics on RAD anywhere so here they are. Cheers to LeeMadz for takin them!
I still intend to keep working on this project, Flight 400s when I can afford them and any parts I find out about. The Sharp grips are unfortunately splitting so I'm on the lookout for another pair. The griploks have faded quite a bit but I suppose Neil's were probably faded from that Southsea Sun!!

this really is a cool ride and such an icon from bitd. I imagine Andy was a little choked when he came face to face with it. Great build. :4_17_5:
-
Magic that.
Orange bikes rock.
-
amazing build. one of my fav bikes of all time that. started building a retro style ruffell bike from a hoffman sd 4 (the big daddy after kevin jones quit) and other bits i had. same clolour scheme but bit more modern. hope to finish it by thursday night as its going on show with my green 85 haro master in a cardiff nightclub.
got to polish up 2 ad 990's and the pivotal seatpost from sandblasted and whack some cranks and bearings in. super tight fit so gonna grind slightly in work.

I really like that, if you don't mind me asking, how much has it cost you to build up so far? Also, you should try and get a pair of 9t skyways in orange, make it a bit more modern :daumenhoch:

that bike is class................. :)

That was the build that got back in to this crazy hobby - Nice job.
Retro looks coll too - get them decals on :smitten:
-
yeah i was thinking about decals for it. as its a streetbeat lookalike but actually a hoffman sd4 (sugar daddy v4 ) maybe i should get em done in the style of the
streetbeat graphics but with 'hoffman sugar beat instead' ?
any thoughts on what graphics- dont want to spend a fortune though. :daumenhoch:
-
Very nice Street Beat, great build :smitten: :daumenhoch:
-
Thanks guys, I've recently found the love again with my t-shirt line comin out... will hopefully get the bike 99% accurate. Don't think it'll ever be 100% as not even Andy could help me with identifying the mystery parts. I will however get the proper Redlines as soon as I can afford the HUGE price tag!

,,Andy's reaction to the bike was fantastic :4_17_5: :smitten:
,, you could see on his face he was really touched by it
-
WOW, gotta say i'm taken aback with all the PMs I've got about this bike!! I knew it was kinda special but had no idea it would be accepted this much, it means a huge deal guys, Cheers! A while back I was losing all faith in the scene with all the politics etc goin on but this and my BMX inspired Tee Brand have got me very enthusiastic indeed!! KEEP IT BMX!
With all this feedback I'd absolutely dying to enter it to Show n Shine at MK but I swore I wouldn't till I had the 401s on it. hmmm
