Title: Brian Curtis !
Post by: Gashead on May 17, 2009, 03:31 PM
So how cool would it be to meet the man that built the hand built frames from back in the day  :coolsmiley:

Well pretty darn cool if you ask me, as you  may know I have buillt/restored a few now and Curtis is my favourate bike from from the 80's.

It's been in the pipeline for about 3 years, I first contacted him for some decals and over the years we both mentioned about meeting up and today it happened

Now I'm not going into too much detail but there is a new website coming, based on Steve Firebirds website, but of course  dedicated to Curtis. Brian has given me exclusive rights and permissions, so watch this space  :daumenhoch:

I spent hours with Brian this morning along with my son Lil Gashead (Ollie) and Chichi (Nev), Brian spoke at great length regarding the history of Curtis and also gave me a few goodies for the website  :smitten: :smitten:

Brian is a great humble man and it was an honour for me to meet him, as well as the goodies he was kind enough to sign a few bits for me too.

I can't tell you how excited I have been about this !

Anyway here's a few pic's of my lord and master  ;)

My son learned to ride on one of these and now my daughter has it as a hand-me-down bike and she learned to ride on it too.

A cool bike for the nippers, but the parts are a bit crap and it weighs a fooking ton.

Joe - Yes Curtis is still a company but run by the old 'test rider' Gary Woodhouse, however Brian still does all the brazing  :daumenhoch:

would brian consider doing me a custom on the down-low?

would you ask him for me?

i'd like to come down and pick it up from him to, see the last stages of brazing, no paint or stickers neede,

i'd order one from gary but the prices are completely unrealistic,

Super cool thread Nick  ;) .

Brian Curtis is a UK BMX Legend  :4_17_5: .

I met some of the new school Curtis kinda team riders through Miles a few years back and their bikes were very cool , totally built to their specs ( different angles , tube sizes etc etc ) and they were top guys too .

Nice build too  ;) .

Not sure about the beard though .............  :-\

Nice bikes those Curtis's, anyone know how much these badboys go for?

It all depends what Curtis bike it is. If you have a cruiser from BITD then you could be in for a shock...
Frame and forks for Curtis bikes can go for any where between £100 - £200 or even more for a top condition. And it will also depend on the year and who built it.

Why do you have one for sale????
If so send me a pm, I could be interested  ;D

best of british indeed  :smitten:
depends how bad you want one ,,,,i was determind to get one ,as it was the bike of my childhood
then one came up on ebay ,in a right state ,it had been glossed white  :wtf: and was in a right state ,the rear bits on the drop outs had been bent up ,and the seller said that was the norm  :uglystupid2:

i payed £195 ,,,then had it chromed ,so all in £400 ,i know ill never get that back ,,but theres no way im ever selling it

i was going to go as high as £300 for it  :idiot2:

and i,v never told anyone this ,,,but the seller had bought it off ebay a week earlier

and heres the choker ,,,,he found it in the bike spares category,,,some old dear was cleaning out her shed and found her sons
old bmx frame ,,,,and all it was listed as was bike spares ,even the seller didn't know it was a curtis ,when he bought it he looked into it more then listed it as a curtis  ;)

and how much do you think he bought it for ,,it was a 99p starting listing

99p   bargain  :2funny:  for him ,,,gutted for me  :uglystupid2:

but im not that bothered really ,,,thats ebay for you ,,,,so he made £194.1p
