Title: bike experiment
Post by: Biggeorge on May 19, 2009, 06:40 PM
A little while ago, I asked for anyone who could mod a frame for me, anyway, I had a go at it recently.
I ride a 2006 haro sport, its a bit heavy although I love riding it, and I love having a standing platform for framestand tricks. I have a couple of new school frames knocking around so I took one I had to mod with a platform as a prototype (an old federal t-nez). I have been trying for a while to get someone to make me a platform like a trickstar one.
I took an old set of bars and cut the handle bits off, then made 2 supports for the platform, I then took it to an engineering firm who did the welding, the welding is a bit large but I cant see it breaking in a hurry!!
I then took it to the powdercoaters ( AMD in the team valley 0191 487 5758 ) who have done a fantstic job again, it hides the worst of the welds, took a day to do and cost 40 quid! cant go wrong. this is the 4th frame theyve done for me and they do a great job.
So I built it up, thanks to stodgy for the cranks, bb and pedals! It rides good,  had a load of trouble of the crappy khe freecaster so im back on my trusty modded odyssey one.
I'll see how I get on with it, the back of the platform sticks out at the back a bit too much and sometimes catches on gerators but isnt too bad.
So there you are, a new school frame set for and old fart like me whos living in the past and still doing old tricks!

thanks very much to all for your comments, thanks to lew for the vid, there a couple more on my photobucket page..
I've never been one for trends, I prefer my bike to suit me as most of my tricks are from the 80's/early 90's. when tiny bars were the rage, I rode wide bars and every park I went to, I had trendy kids telling me to cut them down, I've always had 2 brakes and a freecoaster, if i took them off, I wouldnt be able to do most of my tricks and would limit myself. When big bars and freecoasters became fashionable, I put on a set of wheel discs and flip down forkstanders for a larf, but that craze hasnt caught on yet!!
I now know that a modded new school frame is possible, this was an experiment to see if it could be done leading up to something similar on my mosca of something else. I'm happy with the result so far!
