Hi Guys 'n' Girls,
I've had a Crupi frame in storage for a while I dug it out the other day to be presented with a nice dent in the top tube :tickedoff:
Super bike Dan tells me you cant powder coat normal body filler as it boils in the baking room.
So the frame needs to be welded and ground down >:(
Does anyone know of anyone who can do ally welding???? :daumenhoch:
-
give a very nice gentleman on here called Sawzall a PM......he's the nuts at stuff like that :daumenhoch:
-
Fill with braze, then file down again back to the original contour.
Not weld, the process is to unforgiving, unlike brazing which does not "pull" whilst cooling.

Not sure, but I dont think the alloys will "mix" or "take"
And there is an issue as to which has the highest melting point?

Yeah that was my thought.
I think an ally frame needs to be filled with ally.
Braze takes to steel like a duck to water, but I think the ally would melt before the braze.

ally should be filled with ally weld not brazing :)

Ok so the question is who on here can weld ally? ???
It's a bit of an art form i'm told, very hard to work with. just my luck.
Looks like I'll be playing with the P38 and some spray cans, sorry Dan :(
That will bring back the memories of my first car :LolLolLolLol:

Moschops, PM Phil (Sawzall) as somebody suggested. Lovely guy and a genius looking at previous threads with his work.

Or maybe give this stuff a try... I haven't used it myself but the manufacturer claims it's suitable for powdercoating :daumenhoch:

That looks like just the ticket :daumenhoch:
Dan: do you think this stuff would be ok during the paint stripping process? I will have cleared paint around the dented area so there should be no need to actualy treat it directly.

If you have no joy, give me a shout. Think our Snap-On guy does ally welding.

Looks like this stuff is a goer.
will take 205 degrees for 20 mins so can be powdered :daumenhoch:
I will order stuff and give it a go, I'll take some pics during the process.
