Hi Guys,
What do you do to get a bb off when you have smashed the shite out of it and broken all the teeth off of it????
I lost my temper with one today and completly fooked it, should have stopped when the first tooth snapped using my propper tool, then the screw driver and hammer came out, and when the stilsons came out I really should have stopped :tickedoff:
Cheers,
Lee.

I am guessing you mean the frewheel?
Either clamp the fook out of it in a decent vice or get a propper freewheel removal tool

depending on which you have.
PS i made one and it works a treat!

No, bottom bracket cup drive side. Me saying teeth probably threw you.
What I meant by teeth was the machined notches that the tool sits in. It's not an Isis one its a 19mm spindle Sinz one.

Any pics so we can see what you have done and what you were trying to do?
I'm finding it hard to visualise the BB and how it can be removed...
Marty :)

The good side:

This came out fine using a pin style BB tool.
The Dark side:

And this thing moved about 5mm in both directions and then got seazed, as you can see I lost the plot and butchered it, I just want it off >:(

Won't the spindle/bearings come out? i'd take everything off i could get off then soak the bastard in wd maybe then hit it with mole grips and a scaffold pole? sounds like the thread's fooked though
-
just a thought... is one of the sides reverse thread? if so have you might have been tightening it rather than loosening it?
-
Hi Del, double checked that.
It's been basted in WD like a xmas turkey. Mole grips it is :daumenhoch:
It's just chuffin stuck!!!
-
Yep! That's fcuked!! ;D ;D ;D
Right, axle out, bearing out. Get hold of a hacksaw and cut some slots into the inside of the cup - be sure not to cut so deep that you damage the BB shell though.
Next, hammer and a good sturdy punch or drift of some sort and strike on the edge of the bb towards the centre of the shell. You should be able to collapse or break the ally bb and it'll either break loose and start turning again, or it'll come out in bits.
If you do this carefully the steel BB shell won't be damaged at all - you will be able to clean up the threads and all will be well :daumenhoch:
-
Sounds like a plan.
Bearings out??? just hit em???
-
Yep, a good firm strike with your hammer and punch from the other side should pop the bearings out without a problem. Give them a knock in an opposing pattern too - like 12 o'clock, 6 o'clock, 12 o'clock etc. You'll soon get the feel of it.

Excellent advice Rob and definitely the way to go :daumenhoch:
