Title: how were acs hubs finished...
Post by: meticulous on June 16, 2009, 05:41 PM: i have some nos acs hubs in gold, with bits of the finish chipped, very minor i may add, but it looks like a plastic coating of some sort, very much unlike anodice, its finish (colour) also looks inconsistant, they are definately nos as this is how i remember them bitd, can anyone confirm how they were re-finihed?

Melt forging is basically pouring molten ali into a mould. Better stuff is 'cold forged'. You can anodise this - such as SunTour Power Stems, Suzue hubs, DC brakes, etc. Cold forging is when the ali is squashed or pressed into shape. It's stronger than melt forging, so less material is needed and the parts are generally finer and lighter, with a much nicer surface finish.
