Just thought i would show the difference between Mongoose Eric Rupe 87 F+F and Mongoose Pro Class 83 F+F in pics. When you look at the Mongoose frames they look almost the same but close up there are quiet alot of differences. Thought it would be best to see the differences in pics than try to explain in words, enjoy. ;)
PS Is there anyone who can help me get the pro class re-chromed, thanks :daumenhoch:

Wow!, I'd love a goose :smitten: they do come round pretty cheap if you buy as frame and forks, Stodgy is selling a Cali for £85! :smitten: My kinda price range! but an MK bike is what i need at the mo so the 'Goose dream will have to wait to the Winter...
-
What does the TT length come in at on the Rupe then jim ? Looks like it's pushing for 20" or so :-\
Bet it'd be lovely to race - but I doubt we'll see you thrashing it round MK :LolLolLolLol:

is the pro class like the 83 supergoose usa ?
-
is the pro class like the 83 supergoose usa ?
From the outside the geometry is very similar mate but the pro-class is a lot lighter due to it's thin-wall tubing. There are some suttle differences to help spot the difference :coolsmiley:
-
that rupe is sexy as fook :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
-
I suppose the best ways to spot an Eric Rupe are :daumenhoch:
1) Different brake bridge, only like that on 86 rupes onwards upto 1989. 1985 Eric Rupes have the same brake bridge as the pro class in the pic, look for the other difference's on these frames 8)
2) Thick top tube the same thickness as the down tube. 8)
3) 19.5 inch TT length, all other goose models are 18.5 inch top tube 8)
4) The seat tube is alot taller on the rupe than any other mongoose model 8)

OK Guys the plot thickens so bare with me, fooking mongoose :LolLolLolLol:
I just got this 1988 Mongoose Eric Rupe although its stickerd as an 86. Putting the frames together ive noticed some slight differences to the 87 Mongoose Eric Rupe model i have. :-\ :-\ ??? ???
First difference is the rear brake bridge is slightly lower on the 88 model. Second difference is the seat tube stick's out about 1cm further on the 88 model as well. Also the 88 model didn't come with a metal head badge. I was wondering if other people with these F+F could measure their's and see what measurements are, thanks dudes :daumenhoch:
Please see pics below ;)

The 1982 frames seem to be the only ones to sport this type of brake bridge...here is an '83 on the left and a '82 on the right. (Pro Class)
Although you can find some 1982's with all circles or ovals...as pictured above by my other 1982 Pro Class.

Alreet Jim sweet framesets..Only had a supergoose 3 as a kid rode pretty good...what do the rupe and pro class ride like in the modern world?
-
hey jimmy
when ya get a minute measure the rider area on the rupe and pro class,,,,fromm centre of bb to middle of the steerer tube at the top
you will probs find there very close even though it has an extra inch on top tube but that looks to me like a more relaxed seat post angle
go on try it
russ
-
Would there be a big big biff between the Eric Rupe 1984 and cali ? AtariAger ,just asking as new to all this

Your right m8, even though the top tube is 1" longer than the Pro Class the frames are still the same size. Top tube is just abit longer to give the rider abit more room. :daumenhoch:
Thanks for posting the pics and info up Tom, great info if we need it. :daumenhoch:
Seems the later the frames are the bigger the seat tube and thicker the rear drop outs are, wonder why they decided this :-\ :-\ :)

They're all different to a cali mate - cali has thinner tubes for one and some calis aren't full chro-mo. There are many other subtle diffs too.

Good thread Jimmy :daumenhoch:
-
Just a thought but taking into acount what russ has said. Was the reason for the brake bridge design to make sure the calliper sat in the right position, after relaxing the seatpost angle?
If this is right then the reason for the position changeing could have been to do with different callipers coming on the market at the time. Wasn't the mid-late 80's when the mx1000 design was replaced?

Would have been MX901 by then, they might work better with a slight angle :-\ :)

I love trying to figure out the why's . Mongoose seem to be pretty good at putting your brain into meltdown though :LolLolLolLol:

Jimmy/Madd Dogg - out of interest, what is this measurment on a Supergoose/Pro-Class/Rupe? Sorry for the hijack.
Love the thread by the way, I love a good Mongoose analysis.
