Title: hammered STA? maybe?
Post by: JT71 on July 14, 2009, 08:14 AM
hey dudes, picked this up last night, think it might be an STA, howerver some twonk has tried to remove a stuck seat post by hammering the frame, seat tube, seat stays by the looks of it, so it might be shagged beyond repair, it's well dented which is a real shame.

it does have profile cranks and a standard chain ring, and looks like it might be an STA, but I'm no expert. Serial is K 00257
also has a rear profile hub.

also came with a spare front wheel that's a super pro, rim has it's stickers gone but chrome is 8/10, the hub's chrome is shot though.

well the Standard Army LAz & Phil think it's repairable and the Ox-Platinum air hardened version...

time to get it stripped down and see if it balances me thinks.

only thing now is what colour do I get it painted....

and sadly mine wasn't as good a deal, you can't beat free can you?

got any pics Scott?

Looks to me like yours might be cromo as I had an STA in about mmm,  I think 2001 ish maybe with that style of dropout - mine was cromo, but I could be wrong.

I'll try get a pic up for you of mine tonight, I have a 250 from about 2003 - 4 that was ox- I'll check to dropouts on that for you too.

lucky, hope its in good nick for you.  Real shame about the hammer been taken to the above STA, gutted.  The STA is an all time classic I think.  I had a MK1 in the mid 90s but the back end bent, which made the chain fall off alot + the head tube flared.

Here's a pic of me knocking out a nohander on my first STA in about 95-6 time I think.
(hand panited black -  ;D - I had style back in the 90s, haha)

and a cancan on the stepup in AQL territory about the same time.

Like I said I had another, which stayed true, sold it on a while back - it was a 20.5 version, solid.

I like STAs but I prefere trails boss and 250s, just a little lighter you know.

how do you measure top tube? mine measures 21" centre head tube to centre seat tube, along the top tube.

Nice find  :daumenhoch: Shame about the "hammering" it's taken but looks repairable, forks look like pitchforks? t/t is measured between centres so it's 21" Are you going to fix 'er up and ride it?

the repair clinic is waiting joe!

first generation ox frames looked the same as the chromoly counterpart. they ran with one another for a yearish or so, available in chromoly for £360 or ox for £480, looked exactly the same, just different tubing up front! hence the balancing!

philbert did a frames section    mentioned all the differences  go looky

its a 96/97 frame for starters.

the STL on the back ties in with the era too. the SHL was the first, the Sheep Hills Locals! many more followed all around the world, just remains to find out what the ST stands for. S....... T........ Locals
