Morning,
There is clearly a lot of talent on these forums and some of the bikes are unbe-fookin-lievable and I wondered how many of the builders weren`t riders BITD. And also what is it about building an old skooler that gets the creative juices flowing?
Cheers
-
I think everyone was a rider BITD except the youngsters!!
But of course each rider had a varying degree of ability!!
I never raced BITD but was (and still am) a stupid idiot so I used to do some crazy things on my bike.
But after 20+ years away from cycling all of my ability has gone and my decrepid old age has taken over!!
I now ride like a little old granny with arthritis! :(
-
i got back into riding bmx 18months ago after 25ish years away.
loving it like i never left it
-
You sound like me only I don`t have the bike yet. I sold a Master about eighteen months to fund another purchase and wish I hadn`t now. I`ve hit forty and want one more blast while my knees are still working.
So what are you riding now?
Cheers

custom built fit.
ride corby once a week plus various parks :)
-
I took the daughter to school a couple of weeks ago and another dad arrived on a new skooler and I was made up and thanked God I wasn`t the only grey haired twonk who still loves it.
-
there's loads of us about :)

Nothing broke I hope.
I got some inspiration back after seeing Danny Macaskill on youtube. I know its trials riding but he is unbelievable. Back flip after riding up a tree tunk? I can do that.........famous last words. ;D
-
That belly button injury looks paricularly nasty. Theres nothing worse. ;D
I must say after looking at those injuries I might stick to riding to the shops for milk.

I can't ride, never have been able to really, not even BITD, bmx was a means of getting from A to B and maybe doing a few jumps down the building site.
but enjoy trying to ride nowadays.
-
me and the hub both had bmx bikes back in the day mostly pulling tricks and having fun on them nothing serious!!! i bought a burner going back about four years and the hubby followed suit!!we are in our mid 30s now and loving it as much as we did back then :daumenhoch:the hubs a car mechanic so he does most of the hard work although i still like to get my hands dirty every now and then ;)

One thing that amazes me with bmx is that the buzz you get from riding isn't affected by age.

and the I get the same buzz pulling a peg stall as better riders get pulling their tricks.

Im 15 coming on 16. I was sadly never around when the 80's was spawned, i was an 90's child. The reason i love Old School BMX and the reason why i own and ride them is because when i first got into BMX i thought the modern day BMX's had nothing special about them, plain, all looking the same and had no style and when i got the first wiff of an 80's BMX, i was amazed to see that every single one looked somewhat different and the things they'd do were unbelivable like making a race bike with tensioned cables, a bike with a design to make four (Quadangle) and to make a race bike by filling the whole frame up with helium! I love OS BMX because everything is just bonkers! :4_17_5: :4_17_5: :4_17_5: :4_17_5:

Hi my names Steve and I'm an alchoholic !!!!
I've loved bmx since my 11th birthday (1980) when I got my first bike, I am about to be 40 and still ride.
When I moved to Mallorca 18+ years ago there was no bmx scene here so I hardly rode, but just over a year ago I got a N/S bike and ride as much as I can now and love every min of it.
BMX is in my blood and I will ride (albeit badly) until my body says I can't.
watching the Haro demo in Germany last weekend was such a rush for me that I put it on every morning whilst I have my coffee and it gives me a smile on my face all day.
P.S anybody got a pair of blue and white haro pants size 30 and top for sale ?
Steve.

No you don't Paul, not without the Buzz outfit :LolLolLolLol:
I'm an idiot, did this to my skull last year in January after getting into riding BMX again after about 20 years off (rode mountain bikes for a good few inbetween but not too seriously after I got a company car!). Gutted as I was getting my ramp mojo back but now I'm scared as this hurt like hell - dislocated my shoulder and fractured my skull in 6 places which the A&E missed and I ended up with a titanium plate and a beeeeeeatch of a two-week long headache.....
Before - getting confident.....

Getting even more confident.....

Mmm - not so confident in A&E........
3 days later it hurts like a bastardo, and another trip to A&E this time found 6 fractures and a detached cheekbone.... :knuppel2:

I was a pretty average rider/racer back in the day and am still a pretty average rider/racer now (for my age, that is - on the whole I'm probably below average). My biggest achievements in BMX are South Region No.6 and a national ranking of 15. I make up for being crap by designing some fairly popular BMX and mountain bike frames and running one of the UK's top race teams. My personal lack of success on the track is balanced out by the fact that people have won national and international titles on my frames. I love BMX as much now as I ever did (probably more) and will race for as long as I'm physically able to.
