Right then got my race bike ready for MK now 8)
And it has a little resto story so here goes...................
Well it all started a while back when Lis (member: "lmmrst" ) put a thread up for all to see saying "anyone interested in buying a supergoose" and with me not being in to mongoose much I totally ignored the thread :D :-X :LolLolLolLol: Anyways cut a long story short Lis gave me the guy's details (once again thanks for the tip off Lis ;) ) we haggled out a price (a fookin good one to ;) ) and I got myself (another :-[ ) supergoose - so here is the original piccies the guy sent me :

So first thing first I decided I was going to salvage a few of the original goose bits for some of my other builds and keep just the frame, forks, mongoose stamped headset and proclass wheels everything else was going to be custom for a change.
First job then was strip down and clean up - ideally the wheels could do with re-lacing with new spokes but they spun true so I thought fook it - it's a rider ;) Stripped them down - changed the rim tape, changed the bearings, cleaned the axles and re-greased everything.
Here's the frame / forks & wheels after clean up and light resto :

So then it was a million emails back and forth with Del :LolLolLolLol:
I was happy to keep the original head tube and down tube decals even though they are a little tatty but needed a seat tube decal and also some race decals so I decided to get all "custom" stylee - next thing you know I couldn't be stopped ;D Custom decals galore - viscount seat got some treatment as did my GT pro bars and even the rim decal on the pro class went custom - I can't thank Del enough for putting my ideas into action and for making sense of my dodgy photoshop concepts I kept PM'ing over :-[ ;D - Del mate you are officially the kiddy 8) :daumenhoch:
Right then parts run down and then piccies...............
PARTS:
1982 supergoose frame & team forks (serial J2003415)
1983 un-stamoed GT pro bars (with custom decals)
alloy pro-class rims with shimano hubs (and custom pro class decal)
NOS Rad Kaps Dice
NOS renthal layback
NOS viscount aero (custom mongoose decals)
NOS Dia Compe MX hinged seat clamp
SR Apex-M 3-piece crank (donated by "currio" cheers mate 8) was blue with a few scrapes so it got the oven pride treatment ;) )
Sugino 44T powdered white (by SBD I think - it's done the rounds with a few Rad members before it ended up with me :) )
NOS Shimano SX
NOS FUAN F1 grips
NOS Dia Compe 901's (changed cables to white)
tuff pad copies
Forklifter style stem (possibly mongoose as it has similar markings to pro-class bars of the same era 85-86 ish and the freestyle geese of that era came with them - I rattle canned this and added a custom mongoose decal)
mongoose stamped headset
comp 3 pattern tyres thick/thin combo (7 stars brand :-\ )
NOS haro race plate (with custom decals)
re-pop mongoose vinyl pads
So here she is ready to race in the novice event at MK :

But the story doesn't quite finish there...................... :LolLolLolLol:
............looking at her I just had to try out some white tuffs and stick the front brake on - so here she is in "street" mode :coolsmiley:

I stuck a poll up at the top just for a laugh - so which do you prefer "race" stylee or "street" stylee ? :D
Hope you like her lads.......... see you all at MK :Great_Britain: 8) :daumenhoch:

Proclass rims for me though.
Top geezer for keeping original decals on it! :4_17_5:
I fancy an old mongoose with proclass rims. >:D
-
nice :coolsmiley:
prefer the race trim out of the two :daumenhoch:
-
Looks brilliant John , well done mate :4_17_5:
Personally prefer it with the spokes ...... it looks faster ...... and your going to need as much speed as you can get for the Novice racing at MK :LolLolLolLol:
Top build though mate and Del has worked his magic again :daumenhoch:
Looking forward to seeing it Sunday :D
-
Race style for me mate - looks sweet - decals top as always! :4_17_5:
-
Nice build(s) :D John
has to be race style :daumenhoch:
-
Nice forks John. ;) ;)
Pro class rims for me but i'd change the rim tape to red.
Did Del make the seat stickers aswell ???????????
-
loving it with the spokes :smitten:
-
I fancy an old mongoose with proclass rims. >:D
Nick, you can't beat an old gusseted goose with a decent set of spokes on like proClass........ :smitten:
John, as ever that bike looks fookin crackin fella, but the white Tuffs are as camp as christmas mate so I'd stick with the spokes :daumenhoch:
Looks like my 1978 Team which is my favourite bike fella - see you on the track on sunday on mine then :knuppel2: :2funny:

v nice :4_17_5:, raceroony for me its the classic goose look of bmx from that era ,, +1 on keeping the origonal decals dosen't detract from the build at all,,, dels custom decals only improve things :daumenhoch:, as for the steet styley version if you'd gone with black tuffs and parts it might have made the choise a bit tougher , just white with red and chrome, unsure,, race is the winner imo :daumenhoch:
-
tis fookin lovely, i like either style :daumenhoch:
-
I also have to say that it looks better with the spokes.
Its not often I say that, but those tuffs just dont look right on that one mate.
Maybe its because of the age of the bike, but the bright white, and plastic hubs just look out of place.
Good luck at MK mate, break a leg :LolLolLolLol:
Shaun
