Title: GT performer "dave young signature bike " FINISHED
Post by: neiljonarcus on August 05, 2009, 08:49 PM
well hear i go again .. this bike needs some work ... tried to do it to a budget   :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol: its cost a bomb uptill now  but any way . the story goes like this was going to do  his skyway ta he won the nationals on . but  the parts was mental so i am doing this GT performer  its a bit of a odd one  its right in between 84 and 85 just as gt was moving factory  .  so i had a lenghty chat with mister "stodgy" and thats what we have came up with . the fork have been played with they have been drilled for fork stand,s and they have no end caps . but any way  i will try and do this build step by step pictures  . " i think a few guys like this "

this is the bike  with dave on it   :LolLolLolLol:

forks   ..  i have welded a bar thru the forks and filled and smoothed the surroundind area,s . as for the end caps on the forks
were some one has cut the ends of the forks off . i have straighted the end of the forks  and  my mate own,s a locksmith
company and he has a lathe so we turned a ali bar down to fit in the end of the forks with a slight over hang just like the real  gt forks

some  one asked me what paint i used for the pedals  . these are the rattle can ,s i used in order notice the last can is lacquer and its matt finish
on the side of the upol can,s the is a % mark that how much enamel is in there as i tried diffrent amounts to get the right colour

thanks bigdog  . but i must say if you have the tool,s or anything you need to do a resto if you take your time  its not that hard . i am totaly self taught "spelling" . .. and beleive me i have fooked some things up . like them pedals i have painted 6 times   :idiot2: . i think my biggest mistake was on my 1st harry leary turbo , i had origanal decals for it and the seat post and fork decals look the same  but they are NOT  and i put the fork decals on the seat post and when i tried to get the decal,s off i scratched the frame and had to paint it all over again   :'(   :'(   :'(   :'(.......... thanks anyway for your comment

Saw this on BW Neil 8).I don't know that much about them (still learning outside of the Burner scene ;D).But going by the pics you've done a cracking job in restorting the parts eg...pedals,dropouts etc...and for me that's proper restoration  8) (don't know about the painted skyways thoughs ??? ;D)...

Anyway Neil it looks the dogs danglies dude....well done  :daumenhoch:

Was round neils at the weekend having a look at this bike..

Very nice in the flesh.. When you see the brakes seat clamp and pedals alongside eachother it's hard to tell which are anodized and which are painted..

Well done dude... :daumenhoch:
