Title: TARNISHED ALLOY

Anyone know how to remove tarnish from Alloy without highly polishing it? I don't want a highly polished finish as the chainring wasn't like that originally, but it does have some little black tarnish marks all over it which I want to remove. Any ideas? I will try good old soap and water 1st but I doubt that'll clear em up.

Any help appreciated.

what finish did it have originaly?

Was it laquered or anodised?

If it's a ProNeck or TufNeck one they have a burnished type finish (SteveP uses a pummice stone/sharpening stone to get the same effect) and then they are silver or clear anodised.  I'd try a light rub over with something like Peek or Meguairs Metal Polish before using Autosol  :daumenhoch:

Its laquered I believe, its a Haro Uni Directional Chainring, its NOS, but tarnished. I think Autosol maybe too strong as it'll start to give it that shiny look and that's what I want to avoid.

Whatever finish is on it, laquer you think, will need to come off. Any discolouration to the alloy will be under the finish.

It would then need re-finishing as stock (polished, diamond cut, brushed, whatever) then refinshing, in this case laquering.

Theres no other way really.
