Post by: firebird on September 16, 2009, 04:47 PM
Limited Edition Freestyler

picked this up on sunday with Pete from N. Wales. been after one for a while now, number 092 of 500. i've looked into getting the bronze re-done but its going to cost a fare bit, so for now i'll leave it as it is.

also fitted was a dp seat post, dp hollow stem bolt and a pair of dp pegs

Lush, very lush  :smitten:

Will that finish not polish up at all?  Got to be worth a go?

the finish on these frames was called NI-BRONZE
the frame set starts out bare metal, first job is to polish the frame, then its dipped in Copper, then in Nickel, then a coat of electroplated Bronze, then a clear coat of gloss.

the problem here is that the Bronze has worn away almost everywhere so if i polish it any more more Bronze will come off. best left alone now as a survivor

yeah yeah! looks very nice now you've got them shitty blue Acorns off of it  :smitten:

DON'T try steel wool and Autosol - takes the bronzing off a treat! some of your misses Radox and a massage sponge maybe  :LolLolLolLol: talk nicely to it as you do it.. maybe candles... a little Barry White... 'Hey you bronzy thang.. you lookin so fine...'

I'm going for it on mine now with the emery paper to get the rust spots smooth and key the surface - I'm going to try an go the wet spray route to get a good colour. Thanks for checking out the 'full on' route to recreate the original process though - like you said the money they wanted was '£100 the wrong side of what we wanted to pay' but we had to find out eh!

its still a weird one to have a hole in each side of the rear drop outs... and you know the layback and hollow stem bolt were a bonus!

ITSAVERYNICE... YES?

Like that :smitten:

Why was it a special edition, did something happen at the company or was it because of a spare number of frames? and Is the cable hole on the other side of the frame too or just near both drop outs?

Looking through the adverts on my site it looks like the limited edition freestyler was advertised before the standard GL Plus was available, they were also advertised as being limited to 1000 but I have found out that they now only made 500. As dp made all of there own products it was easy for them put together a package, f + f, bars, seat post, stem bolt and pegs have a custom colour made and call it a limited edition.

The frame has only one hole down the left hand side of the frame, I would guess that it was drilled by mistake. I have seen a few strange variations now and I just put it down to the fact that they were so busy, at one making around 500 frame sets a week, that a standard freestyler could have had a GL Plus gussett fitted to the frame, and the same for cable guide holes on standard frames.

The only possible explanation can be explained by the following in-depth mathematical equation.

>> DP GL Plus Limited Edition frame & forks = Buses <<

You wait years for one... etc etc

There have been a few over the last year, I know of 3 others but they have now been painted White. I'm just waiting for NOS one in the box with the ladders bars to come up!
