I've read somewhere that an unpoped rivet fits perfectly, just glue in and cut off the length you need it.

I've only read it , not sure if it fits.

Are the pins easy to pull out?

I've got a spare pedal that I was going to use for the spindle only and a few of those pins if they do  ;)
