I didthis last week, good sand down with rough sandpaper, several coats of self etching primer, several coats of paint and leave it a week to cure before doing anything with it, it'll still peel and chip tho after a while.

good luck

I did this last week too.. sanded, primed, used plasti-kote as paint, but it still came out a bit rough.  Frame has gone to powdercoaters to get a decent finish.  should pick it up tomorrow. will post pics when I get it

I'd totally recommend powdercoating over rattlecan.. and by the time you get all the wet/dry paper/primer/paint/lacquer/effort, there aint much difference in the price and the finish is far superior and much more robust
See http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php'topic=94356.15 (http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php'topic=94356.15) for my Chrome 87 Master now powdered.  Damned cool  8)

If you are restoring, and spending a few quid on stickers, then you want a decent finish
