Here it is
Always wanted one as a kid, finally got round to getting off me arse.
The f&f cost £65 off ebay, but didn't need too much autosol treatment. The serial no. is M3-E2519, which the people at vintage mongoose state is an 1983 expert. Do you concur bobafett? Got lucky with the tuffs, £50 unused and boxed from a local bmx shop who's owner is an old school sympathiser. The opc is a rechromed mongoose with mongoose bottom bracket. The pedals, chainring and grips were via vert-ego. The decals were from BMX products and cost a bomb. The seat post and handlebars are unbranded but cheekily decaled as I wanted them BITD.
Big thanks to Spen69 for the pads and brakes and for taking the time and trouble to help me out.
Hope you like

As for your serial number mate - certainly an '83 as for confirming expert / cali, without survivor decals who knows :LolLolLolLol:
The catalogues have the first calis & experts down as both having main frame chromoly and just equipment spec setting them apart. Later catalogues then have the cali as all tubes chromoly and the expert still as main frame chromoly only so it's easier to tell them apart after late 84 ;)
I also have a theory about the dash in the serial but I can't fully prove it yet without more serial number / frame examples. Both my cali and UK super are all tubes chro-mo and do not have the dash but my 84 blue max is main frame only chromoly and that does have a dash :-\
As far as I'm concerned with that serial number she's a cali or an expert, whichever you like, and either way mate she's a beauty :smitten:
Top work - now go get yourself a gusset goose to keep her company and mongoositis will take a hold of you >:D
:LolLolLolLol:
:daumenhoch:
-
nice build :daumenhoch:
the expert i had was a all tubes frame
with all orig decals too so no iffy guess work

Ya gotta love a good goose puzzle ay Kev :D :LolLolLolLol:
No reference to an all tubes expert in the catalogues :-\
But then again it's mongoose - there are always guidelines never rules ;D
Just don't mention 1981 :-X
-
I presumed they believed it to be an expert due to the E in the serial number, or is that stating the obvious. By the way johngoose, how big is the block you want to race around? Is mongoositis air-borne?
-
:smitten: Lovely matey.
-
Is mongoositis air-borne?
It's worse than that mate - you can catch it through the computer screen
-

We're not starting another mongoose serial no. thread are we? May being the fifth month and e being the fifth letter of the alphabet?
-
May being the fifth month and e being the fifth letter of the alphabet?
You got it Paddy :daumenhoch:
.....Oh and by the way, it's a fairly big block to race round with an up-hill section so get training mate :LolLolLolLol:
-
Johngoose,
I was convinced the E was for expert, just shows how much i know. Got me thinking now, i always thought the expert was the poor man's cali and maybe all this time it was a cali. Might just swap that seat tube decal now, what the heck i'm going to get a supergoose decal on it.
As for the race, I don't like the sound of the uphill section, is there an alternative route?
Paddy
-
very nice mate, just finished a Cali this week so more Goose pics to come.

Stevochb,
I think you may have the answer there, expertcali. Wonder if i could get a decal made with that. You're right mate wasn't expecting this many replies about the bike anyway. Thanks for the comment

Kev,
That's a great article you posted there. That is an 85 expert, do you think it applies to 83 ones aswell?
Paddy
-
paddy i wouldn't like to say
as its a real mine field
chances are they were just churning out frames and forks
and banging them together out the door
the whole article can be found here along with a load of other stuff

It's worse than that mate - you can catch it through the computer screen
John, you of all people know it's even worse than that and you can catch it by thought alone - never underestimate the power of suggestion >:D
Paddy - that bike is a cracker mate and should be well pleased - the F&F are really clean, and the Tuffs out the box - nice touch. It looks even better in the flesh :daumenhoch:
Now get it in BoTM, get it taken for a spin down your local track and finally, get yourself down to MK next year with this one and the other 6 'geese you'll have built by next summer now you've got the bug :2funny:

Mmmm.... I can't sure. It was built in a factory on a production line where the spec changed randomly and often different parts were welded together to meet orders and finish prouction runs off, so you can never really be sure......
I'm guessing by the amount of damage at the front end compared to the amount at the back that it's actually a chro-mo rear end - just to start another thread on here of course....... >:D
