Title: AD990 type brake help please
Post by: ron burgundy on September 26, 2009, 09:13 AM
I'm running a AD999 brake on my chainstays with a 36t chainwheel. The 'cable end' of the brake arm is very close to the teeth of the chain wheel.

I could use a smaller chain wheel and change my rear drive, but I would feel better changing the brake.

I have noticed the Odyssey EVO II looks to have short arms, but I have not seen this brake insitu, could some one please confirm this is the case or does any one know of a brake that has shorter arms?

Thanks

Bren

most of mine are close,i re adjust mine by using more spacers or removing them on the brake blocks
they then sit the arms away from the chainring.i find this happens alot .
but i will go measure some evos..one mo

yes the new evos are shorter around 6mm or more ,ive got round this a few times.
im sure it was by removing some spacers on the blocks so the arms sit higher.

Nice one, Dan. I've already swapped over the spacers and it's still very close; rideable, but a bit dodgy ;)

Have you taken all the spacers out between the brake arm and the brake block?

buy a proper bike :LolLolLolLol:

on a serious note, dont worry about it, as if it is too close the chain will let you know as it will jump off the chain wheel  :daumenhoch: (no change there then) :2funny:
