Title: Toys out of pram time i'm afraid
Post by: pickle on October 13, 2009, 09:01 PM
okay......bare with me on this one as i need to get this off my chest.

2007 i wanted to do something for Children in need, so speaking to some mates on here we did the London cruise and raised over 3k
2008 we did it all over again.......but this time we looked at helping a charity which helped out a good and very well respected member on here and raised about 3.5k for McMillan Nurses.

2009 and we did it all again but this time YOU all voted to do it for Little havens children hospice.......well nearly 3 weeks afterwards and we've raised £340
i really enjoyed the cruise this year, the weather was superb and i got the impression everyone else enjoyed it as well.......the past few years we've had around 80 people come along, this year we were lucky if there was 50.

so what the impression i've got is that all people really want to do is cruise round london and go on a piss up at every other pub you go past?!?  so thats it i'm afraid.

i'm throwing my toys out of the pram and also throwing the towel in........i thinks it's pretty fooking rubbish to have only raised £340 within 3 weeks, so i hand it over to anyone else for next year......you can choose to either do it again next year or just go on a piss up.

i'm sorry if this offends anyone.......but after looking at the just giving site, that really offends me.

over and out  :angrysoapbox:    :daumenhoch:

I for one am ashamed as I have not sorted my sponsor money out, to which I apologise !

But I also echo Rob's comments !

Come on, Radsters I think even if you didn't go on the ride you could find a few quid to donate !

I would also ask for a rallying call to support next year and also ask that we support Rob and ask him to think again before any towel is accepted !

Nick

i haven't got mine in yet, i only got about £50 compared to a couple of hundred last year.

I have to say though i found it pretty tough to get the folks at work to sponsor me this time, don't know if it's the recession or because last year everyone
knew what MacMillan do so were keen to sponsor me.

I do like going the pubs, but i would like to ride more to do it, much more, like twice what we did this year.

Have to say I totally echo Robs sentiments on this one.

Last year we rode for Macmillan and managed to get loads of t-shirts that looked really cool when we were all riding with them on. This year I wanted to help a bit more so volunteered to sort out the t-shirts so we could do the same and have a group identity that also made people aware that we were doing this for a very special cause.

I think in total I sold enough t-shirts to raise about £80 for the charity after my costs were covered. We should have raised £225.

I totally understand where Rob is coming from on this one and have to agree with him whole heartedly. I don't think we should can the ride but if the will isn't there to do it for charity and then help raise some money then that's not so good. We may as well just go on a pub crawl on bikes.

Rob I'll be putting the £80 from t-shirt sales into the account tonight.

I also have loads of t-shirts left if anyone wants to buy one for charity. £6 posted. You can use it as a t-shirt a polishing rag or whatever you want really.

not as much community spirit on here anymore rob, hence the numbers being down.

think this obviously correlates with a significant drop in monies raised also.

as for people not bothering getting the dosh in, then thats just fekking lazy.

i was due to attend this year, but the wife was ill and it got ditched last minute,

your rant is fully justified, so sorry for not being there. (And Little Havens was my idea... :-[?)

Why can't we stick a thread up for 'Little Havens' and see if we can donate some money direct to help !

Perhaps some of our other members could contribute  :daumenhoch:

Rob, sorry dude.

I really really enjoyed last years ride, but unfortunately could not get to this years event which is a shame because Little Havens are near me and i try to support them whenever i can. I would love to make a donation, but i'm afraid MY kids are also needing at the moment and things are tighter than a ducks ring.  >:(

Dont throw in the towel mate, you always do a stunning job with all this.  :daumenhoch:

sorry to hear you are throwing in the towel rob :'(,if people knew how much effort you put in to doing these rides
they might be a bit more forth coming to support these events which after all is for a worthy charity :tickedoff:, as
nick said even if you couldn't make it just a small donation to the charity shouldn't hurt you,
big thanks to rob for all his efforts over the past three years :daumenhoch: it's a real shame this had to happen
but in my eyes the sites just not what it was in the begining :(

If it is it's only because people deem it to be that way; no unity like disunity  :-X

Anyway, if you don't know what all the fuss is about why do you keep repeating it and going on about it?  Surely it's time to move onto something else more important now?

like what marty?

mods saying they are unhappy with how the site is and they dont know why they bother seemed like a worthy thread to comment on to me.

2nd thread i've commented on, suggesting reasons for what the problem might be..nowt else.

i didnt start either of them.

i don't think my original post mentions anything to do with how the site is or how i feel about it.......mine was about the ride.

sorry rob, i misread the site bit, you were referring to the just giving site..

still kinda reads that way to me though mate if i'm honest...how does it read to you, now you've read it back?

you seem pretty pissed off with the level of support from the people on here to me? nowhere near as many riders or money raised as previous years? t the point when you cant be arsed doing it again.then sawzall mentioned the site is not what is used to be..

kind of led me down the path i've already been down tonight...some agree some dont, but there is some truth in it i feel...

anyway, moving on. why not get someone on here to break a world record or something...Bmx related.

wheelie? endo's?

that would raise a few quid if you fancy doing something different?

I would love to donate, honest... not much because I am stink most of the time but every bit helps ...

I would a like supporters tag to, but I have no cheque book with my account and my paypal is fecked and refuse to deal with the muppets  - can card payments not be taken, or is this that to expensive?

I realise that this maybe slighty off the thread, but I would be able to donate and make payments etc.

Please 'pickle' kept em going, after seeing photo's of this year I was hoping to attend the next! Is there an 'signing up fee?' Or would that stop people from going?

 :)

Pickle,
The fellas at work are sly fookers, and as yet I'm struggling to get the promised sponsorship out of them , out of the 20 peeps who sponsered me only 5 have paid and the rest are saying at the moment they cant afford to cough up  :2gunsfiring_v1:
I'm sick of it too matie, but i guess it just shows that at the moment charity is starting at home  :-\
Anyway i feel bad about you having a rant so I've paid up the sponsorship in full and I'll have to get the money back as and when from the fellas at work.  :knuppel2:
Sorry for the delay man.

The one thing I've always wanted to do is ride lands end to john o'groats on a bmx, unfortunately I can never afford the time off work to do it or the initial outlay of the ride, fuel for back up vehicle, stuff like that! If I ever get made redundant I'm gonna go for it and I'll be calling on you lot to put me up for a night up and down the country, it would be open to volunteers if anyone els has got the minerals for it, and the charity is also chosen already

As i said in the other thread i had lost the sponser form but now have found it and will collect all the money within the next two weeks before i go to Canada. I did buy a t shirt and i wear it to bed as its like "tent" on me.

Hope the raised money gets higher and higher.

Well, charity certainly begins at home for my family as only my other half works and that is part time. Every month £200 is coming out of our savings just to get by - times are tough. I could sell some of my stuff of course but it's not fetching what it used too and I don't really want to as I worked bloody hard to buy it.

Rob, don't throw the towel in on this, any money raised is money the charity would not have got otherwise and will help in some way.
I did mention to a few people about a possible Manchester cruise to run alongside the London one as 'that London' is too far for a lot of the 'northern' peeps...maybe something that can happen next year?

Anyway, I'll have a T-Shirt Si (Zippy) if the money goes to the charity.

Rob I've just read this as I've been away. After the ride i've struggled to get cash out of the 4 people that sponsored me, yes only 4 this time, fooking joke :( last year and I'm not sure whether it was cancer related (and because what my wife Lucie had gone through) I raised about £250ish, this year i've struggled to get even £80 out of people and my clients are all complaining about spare petty cash etc.. what I think is, that the cancer subject was closer to home for many more people so they paid up for that cause, which I think is a shame, as little havens deserves the support also.

So far i've collected £45, disappointing I know but if I can get that £80 mark, then i'll add more of my own money as its all for a good cause.

Regarding you throwing in the towel, don't do it mate as you always do a fantastic job, not just for the rides but at MK also and I'd like for you to continue this. I just think that this time, whether its the credit crunch or people not wanting to contribute as they felt the charity wasn't for them I just dunno. All I know is that I don't attend it for a piss up, I do it to catch up with friends and also try and raise money also, normal piss up rides I try and organise in the members events section which i'm sure you've seen. I agree £340 is terrible but it is bloody hard at times to get the money out of people that said "honestly" I'll pay you on completion...  >:(  :knuppel2:

I will say again though, stick with it Rob and keep ya chin up, you do a fab job mate, it was an excellent day out for everyone with a better route this time and great weather, really was superb  :4_17_5:

I will continue trying to extract cash from the people that sponsored me and get this paid up asap.

Matt  :daumenhoch:
