I'm just about to dye a set of z rims also and as far as I'm aware they dye just aswell as skyways. Always better off starting with a light colour preferably white :daumenhoch:
-
Yep that was my concern about the yellow to red idea......think I'll look out for some "cheap" white ones
-
Or you could try soaking the yellow ones in bleach for a couple of days and then dye them. Won't make them white but might help a bit.
-
zeds do dye aswell as tuffs ,,,with the yellow the red will come out darker than you probally want ,,going from a yellow seat i dyed red ,,thinking i was going to get a dark orange colour
dont know if you saw my skyway dying thread where i used a metal bin with a single stove underneath it ,to keep the water hot
just keep checking till you get the desired colour
as said you would be better off starting with white
but if you want black then any colour will dye black ,,,i dyed a light blue pair royal blue ,but wasnt happy with the outcome so then dyed them black
all using rit dye
heres the seat

Cheers for the help Fella's :daumenhoch:
Looks like I'll be going down the White or Yellow Z's to Red option as no bugger has any red ones to sell at the moment.......... :-\

+1 on that. 8) If Michael Knight had a BMX BITD, it would have had those rims on it. :)

:2funny: pmsl that he would ,,,destined for my next build with some red LF hubs ,,going on a black curtis pro ,,keep your eyes peeled :smitten:
the thing i found with the zeds was ,i was starting to wet and dry them to get the colour as even as possible ,,but then thought wtf do i do when it comes to the pat pend part and made in england ,,didnt want to sand that out ,,,
so when i dyed them blue the darker bits where still darker ,,so i decided black which hid the colour changes in the plastic
i did bleach them to clean them up ,,,gets all the greese out of them ,if theres any greese on them the dye wont take on that bit
the bleeching never affected the surface ,and it was neet domestos ,,,get in there ..i,v got shit loads of bleeched clothes now though ,
