I dont know the 'generations' of teh ESP stems or if the logos mean a change in generation
What I do know is they are fooking lush! :smitten: I have two and the one I got back in the day is my favorite bmx part!
Can remember the day I got it, I nearly pi55ed myself with exitement! Thanks mum for lending me the £22.50 to buy it :4_17_5:
:LolLolLolLol:
-
£22.50  if only i could step back in time
-
the logo`s are very confusing i dont think thats the first one but its on the early side i will get in the loft as i know i have a first logo type just cant recal what it looks like exactly .... ... as for date im nott 100% but 83 ?
-
I reckon drawling through the pages of the mighty BMX Action
They were around in 83 but I dont believe they were produced for many years after that. Maybe into 85, I could be wrong though. ;)
-
The stems came out in MID to LATE 82 had one on my kz1 when i rode for kuwahara in 83 my old team mate STU DIGGENS was the first person i knew that had one ! :) As he raced the winter in the USA and came back with some GOODIES one being an ESP stem ;)
Got 2 in 83 from RAD CITY :4_17_5:
as JJ has said think they were last bought out in 85
Nice one WOODY :daumenhoch:

I remember us all drooling over that back then, I tried to get Heffs to stock them but couldn't get them from the distributors as they were not coming over in enough numbers.

i dont understand the hype with these? :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
whats so good about them compared to other stems? is it just as they are rare? :-\ :-\ :-\

Light, stylish and sorry but nothing like a Hutch stem. The shape of the top cap is really the key design point plus they had a longer reach than most other stems (excluding the Hutch stem) and they were a boutique brand so had more kudos than a Hutch or Pro Neck/Tuf Neck :daumenhoch:
-
couldn't agree more marty they were the rolls royce of stems :smitten:
-
racing or freestyle?

Love the colour of those bars, Forklifters per chance?

Gary Ellis is one tall mofo ! , his dad made ESP ( Flying W ) stems and obviously firstly for his son to use to get more comfortable on an 80's twenty inch .
The first true XL or even XXL stem I believe . Like Marty said ^^^ , boutique kinda brand & not everywhere which is cool . A real tall mate from MK had one bitd .
Oh , I've one here too ..................... :LolLolLolLol:

esp's are one coooool piece of exotica, i had one BITD but it was too long for me (and i also missed the creak of a tuf-neck) so it went the journey, the quality compared to hutch stems was far far superior, mind you, the quality of suntour stems was far superior to hutch stems
-
What is the reach (lenght) of the stem...looks about "Deep H Hutch" lenght ???
