i have got really almost mint seat and need to get the rusty rails back to minty how do i go about this please.ps rails cant be removed so must be cleaned while in the seat
-
just did one last weekend, I really soaked cotton wool in lemon juice (M&S Organic, only stuff I could find that was in big bottles)
and wrapped around the rails, placed in a plastic bag so kept damp and left 24 hours, came off really easy and a bit of Autosol later looked new. worth a go.
Best

The Stinky stuff you stick on chips.......Vinegar :daumenhoch:
-
will either of these damage the plastic seat at all
-
Try using a plastic scraper to knock off the bulk of the rust (be gentle though)
You could use masking tape on the plastic bits to be sure.
Hook you cleaning cloth around the rails so they are only really cleaning/polishing the rails .
You should be alright Greg!!

I have used lemon juice before with some great results , you just need to get enough to leave it to soak for a while, can't see lemon juice damaging the seat :D
Think bobafett (John) did a thread on a rusty seat clamp he left to soak in Lemon juice and the results were superb :daumenhoch:

The guts were easy cos you can fully submerse them - not sure how this would effect the seat though :-\
The lemon juice soaked cotton wool wrap mentioned above sounds like a good idea though - got some rails i need to do myself :)
Show your results if you try it mate :daumenhoch:

how long were they in juice for please
did they come out looking like that or was there bit work after juicing

24 hours in the juice mate - it was tesco's own bog standard lemon juice :)
Didn't need any work mate to look like the final piccy - just a rinse under the tap and a rub down with a clean rag :daumenhoch:
As I say though I dunno how it would effect the seat itself :-\

well i wil try my luck tomorrow it either cures it or kills it lol
